Reborn as a Mechanist with a God-Tier System-Chapter 232: Desperation [2]
Noble District, Area 1, Spire Prime.
Around 2pm in the morning.
In a city that seemed cut off from reality, a skyscraper rose like a black monolith through layers of neon fog, its upper reaches vanishing into low-hanging clouds electrified by pink and cyan advertisements.
Above, the sky roared with distant neon storms.
On the skyscraper, thousands of windows formed a vertical constellation, each one a cell of light in the city’s sleepless spine.
Magnetic traffic lanes spiraled across its midsection as vehicles whistled past like insects with jet engines. Countless shining holo-billboards crawled up the building’s sides, selling augmented dreams to the masses far below.
It was night in Spire Prime, and it was raining.
Rain slid down the glass of the skyscraper in luminous streaks, catching reflections of the city’s glow and dragging them downward as if the tower itself was bleeding color into the streets.
This was one of the main signal towers of the Omnicore Federation’s headquarters in Spire Prime.
This was [Golgotha]
At the top of the massive skyscraper, the noise of the city dulled into a distant hum even as the architecture hardened to weather the distant storms in the sky.
The decorative glass gave way to armored panels of obsidian and sensor arrays that protected the massive tower-like building while at the same time harnessing the natural ADE powers ravaging inside the neon storms.
Multiple antennae crowned the roof of the building like a metallic halo, constantly scanning, listening, and calculating.
This was not a place for commerce or luxury, this was a tower where decisions, both military and mundane are made that ripple across the world.
And tonight, while most of the city was sleeping, this information tower received a distant network ping.
DING!
Inside one of the upper floors of the massive tower-like skyscraper, a single room dominated the level- a military command center carved from steel, carbon composites, and cold light.
There were multiple military operatives of the Omnicore Federation inside this large hall that spanned across the entire floor.
Most of them were Synths and A.I Constructs.
Those on night duty manned this floor of the building. Some, idle and bored were originally having a nap till the distant network ping reached the tower, instantly waking every single one of them up.
The moment they all woke up, they felt it.
The air inside here was tense, vibrating faintly with the hum of hidden generators. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
A circular holographic table floated at the center, projecting a living map of a distant warzone- Iron Reef!
The front lines in the hologram flickered as friendly units pulsed blue while enemy forces burned red.
Both armies were clashing this night!
Data scrolled endlessly along the walls of the map, displaying troop counts, ammo reserves, casualty projections, and satellite feeds.
This was where the headquarters of the Omnicore Federation communicated with the force that was sent to eradicate Iron Reef.
This entire hall was dedicated to the task.
Every soldier that went for the war had a holo tag that was reflected inside the living map of the holographic table, and it was this holo tags that pulsed red on the map. Mundane soldiers burned with the least intensity.
As for F Rank Ascended, their red holo tag burned with more intensity than mundane soldiers, and the same applied for E Rank Ascended, D Rank Ascended, and the sole C Rank Ascended mobilized for this mission.
General Sylvari Charr’s red holo tag burned brightest in the map.
This hall was in charge of not just maintaining communication with the field force far away in Iron Reef, but they kept track of everything that happened from the progress of the war to every single Federation soldier who died during the war.
The reason why this hall was tense at this moment was because all of a sudden, the red holo tag symbolizing the General suddenly began to show a blinking warning skull.
As for the ping that the tower received, it was a distress call from Iron Reef!
’What’s happening?’ The military operatives were stunned, then...
WOM! WOM! WOM!
The hall’s lightning shifted abruptly from white to deep crimson, then loud alarm sounds began blaring inside his hall!
Instantly, all the officers and operatives snapped to attention.
The familiar voice of Major Ceres, loud and shrill boomed through the chamber as it made the announcement, synthetic and merciless.
The Major didn’t just send a distress signal, she sent a link showing the current state of Iron Reef.
The hall’s A.I automatically entered the link, and footage emerged.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The night in the distant rebel city was illuminated by bright and fierce colorful explosions as an intense battle went on in the city!
The screens fractured into new feeds, showing burning aerial transports and warships, including the 3 D Rank Ascended of the airforce currently fighting against the D Rank Ascended of the rebel army, and also General Sylvari Charr’s predicament!
Seeing the General trapped and motionless, almost like he was struggling to keep his consciousness intact, every soldier in this hall who saw the footage froze in shock and horror.
’The General is in danger!’
In that moment, they all felt a chill crawling down their spines.
They finally realized what prompted the airforce to send a distress signal to headquarters.
"F*CK!" One soldier cursed, then he bellowed. "What are you waiting for? Inform the air force! NOW! THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!"
BZZZZ!
As NetRunners went to work that night, doing what they do best, unknown to the mundane citizens of this main Federation city, the Federation Army entered a state of alarm as undercurrents boiled inside the city.
...
In another large tower-like skyscraper in the city, the home and base of an important battalion of the Federation Army.
WOM! WOM! WOM!
Loud alarm sounds began ringing as the news finally got here.
While it happened, as the military leaders tried to contact their superiors, looking for directives, a dense ADE presence suddenly descended.
BZZZZZZZ!
A holographic projection of an oversized metallic head appeared inside the highest floor of the skyscraper.
The head looked like it belonged to an A.I Construct and its eyes glowed in a dense neon green color.
This was a face that every soldier of the Federation Army knew.
They all fell to their knees.
"Director-Prime!"
This was a holographic projection of the leader of the Omnicore Federation, Director-Prime Epsilon.
He looked at all the soldiers gathered, focusing on the D Rank military leaders, then he ordered. "Mobilize, immediately!"
"Yes Director!"
Instantly, the massive tower-like skyscraper began buzzing with activities.
The night traffic in the nearby magnetic traffic lanes instantly hit a bottleneck as civilian aerial transports were forced to cluster in the air, clogging the traffic.
Just as the civilians were about to begin complaining to the police about what was going on, the nearby military base suddenly hummed loudly.
From the civilian transports, Synths and A.I Constructs looked just in time to see thousands upon thousands of aerial transports rising into the sky.
This was what clogged the traffic.
They saw 200 meter long and even 300 meter long warships also rise from the top of the building, making electrons in the atmosphere hum in an excited state as the headquarters of the Omnicore Federation mobilized for war.
They didn’t stop rising.
From thousands, the number of aerial transports rising into the sky soon crossed the 10,000 mark and it kept on rising then in formation, they started accelerating out of the city.
But still, there was concern.
For a normal aerial transport, it would take hours to fly all the way from the Central Belt where Spire Prime was to the distant Western Fringe where the war was being fought in Iron Reef.
Would they be able to arrive on time?
Nobody knew.
...
While soldiers mobilized in warships, led by D Rank Commanders, Director-Prime Epsilon moved that night.
He didn’t join the army.
Instead, he hopped into the psionic network and teleported.
Neural Projection!
BZZZZZZ!
He hopped inside a mundane 1-story apartment that was outside the city, erected alone in the wilderness outside the massive city.
He emerged in a simple living room with a few sofas, a glass center table, and a large TV screen that was currently showing a children’s cartoon.
A tall Synth sat in one of the sofas with a bunch of synthetic Synth popcorn in a box, eating with a bottle of synthetic oil beside him.
The moment someone hopped into his apartment, this man didn’t panic as he calmly turned his head to face the intruder and when he saw who it was, he only raised his eyebrows slightly.
"What happened?" He went straight to the point.
The Director-Prime looked at the Synth calmly, then he said. "I’m not sure, but Sylvari fell into a trap".
The seated Synth reacted in an amused manner. "Really?"
Epsilon didn’t answer him, instead he said. "I need you to go to Iron Reef, nothing must happen to Sylvari".
Talking of the General, the Director-Prime’s face scrunched up slightly in annoyance. "I’ve always told him to use his brain more than his power," he sighed. "How did he manage to drive himself into a trap?"
The Director-Prime looked at the seated Synth, waiting for his reply.
The Synth tilted his head slightly as if evaluating if the stress was worth it, then he chuckled. "I’ll like to see the look on Sylvari’s face when I save him".
He looked at the Director-Prime. "What of the brat?"
Epsilon’s face turned cold. "Kill him".
The Synth grinned. "With pleasure," then a violent and majestic gold and white ADE erupted around his mechanical body.
Reality Control!
BZZZ!
In a flash, he disappeared.
