Reborn as a Landlord-Chapter 1603 - 817: Old Relatives
The three men of the family were surprised to discover a distant guest had arrived at the old residence, and they couldn’t guess who it might be. As they walked to the courtyard, they heard voices from the Upper Room, including the cheerful voice of Lady Zhou and another feminine voice that sounded somewhat similar to hers. The three men were even more intrigued; who could it be that put Lady Zhou in such an engaging conversation?
Since it was notably cold today and windy, the door to the outer room of the Upper Room was shut, so it wasn’t until the three men pushed the door open and walked inside that they were noticed.
Lady Chiang, with Da Niuniu, was in the outer room, seemingly having just boiled some water and was pouring it into the teapot. Seeing Lian Shouxin and the others arrive, Lady Chiang was startled but quickly put on a welcoming smile.
"Fourth Uncle is here! Look at me, so busy and absent-minded that I didn’t even get a chance to greet you outside. Please, Fourth Uncle, come inside and have a seat." Lady Chiang smiled broadly, then drew Niuniu to her front and urged her to greet them, "Niuniu, quickly greet Fourth Grandpa, Aunt Manman, and Seventh Uncle, didn’t you just mention missing your Aunt Manman and Seventh Uncle?"
"Fourth Grandpa, Aunt Manman, Seventh Uncle..." Da Niuniu, neatly dressed by Lady Chiang, her short hair tied in two little pigtails, greeted them shyly and softly while leaning against Lady Chiang’s leg.
"Are there guests at home?" Lian Shouxin responded while asking.
"It’s my Third Aunt Granny and Third Maternal Grandfather who have come." Lady Chiang replied with a smile.
At this moment, there were sounds of rustling from inside the house, indicating they had heard the voices outside. Soon, Lian Shouren and Lian Jizu hurried out to greet them.
Lian Shouxin entered first, followed by Lian Manman and Xiao Qi. As Lian Jizu lifted the curtain for them, the three entered the east room.
Old Master Lian and a middle-aged man stood by the edge of the kang bed, with a pair of young boys and girls standing behind them, evidently having just gotten off the bed to welcome them, along with a middle-aged woman who had just freed herself from Lady Zhou’s hand and moved to the kang.
Only Lady Zhou remained seated cross-legged on the kang, upright and motionless.
Since Lady Chiang had mentioned it earlier, Lian Shouxin immediately recognized the guests in the room as the family of Younger Lady Zhou, whom Lady Zhang had mentioned days ago.
"It’s Third Aunt and Third Maternal Grandfather!" Lian Shouxin stepped forward quickly to say.
Before Lian Shouxin could make further moves, Shang Huaide, who was standing beside Old Master Lian, also stepped forward, preparing to bow. The young boy and girl behind him followed suit, but Younger Lady Zhou was held back by Lady Zhou.
Lian Shouxin certainly wouldn’t let Shang Huaide bow to him, and he quickly stepped forward to support Shang Huaide. Old Master Lian, standing nearby, also grabbed one of Shang Huaide’s arms.
"Huaide, although Old Fourth is now an official, you don’t need to do this at home. You’ll embarrass him." Old Master Lian said with a smile.
It turned out that both Shang Huaide and Younger Lady Zhou knew Lian Shouxin held an official position now and intended to bow to him.
"Second Brother-in-law, your ancestral graves must be emitting auspicious smoke." Shang Huaide, being held back, didn’t insist on bowing anymore and just laughed, saying, "Shouxin was never an ordinary child when his Third Aunt and I watched him grow. We knew he’d be successful. Look at him now, he’s an esteemed official in the Imperial Court. Not just in our local area, but even those from other counties have heard of him."
"Shouxin is really something..." Shang Huaide raised his thumb, saying, "When people mention him outside, there’s nothing but praise and admiration. Second Brother-in-law, you and my second sister are truly blessed..."
Old Master Lian chuckled modestly a few times, but judging by his tone and expression, he was evidently delighted.
"Come sit on the kang and talk. Why stand on the ground? It’s quite cold." Lady Zhou suggested.
Lady Chiang, entering with a teapot, also invited everyone to come sit on the kang with a smile.
In the end, Younger Lady Zhou’s family still took off their shoes and sat on the kang, while Lian Shouxin sat on a stool on the ground.
Lian Manman and Xiao Qi then brought out the yuanxiao they had brought with them to show Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou.
"The festival is coming up soon. My mother purchased yuanxiao and sent us over to give some to my grandfather and grandmother." Lian Manman chirped, "They’re made with white glutinous rice flour and have assorted fillings, I’ve heard they’re delicious."
"This year, with all the things you’ve sent back and forth, we can’t possibly eat them all. Please, don’t spend more money." Old Master Lian said.
"Father, please just accept them. These yuanxiao are indeed very good. They taste great any way you eat them." Lian Shouxin added.
Only then did Lian Manman have the young girl place the two packs of yuanxiao on the cabinet, and then she had the young girl step back into the outer room. Subsequently, both Lian Manman and Xiao Qi chose not to sit on the edge of the kang and instead joined Lian Shouxin on the stools.
