"That’s true, but here we are, stuck with it," Lian Shouxin said even more helplessly, "If we were living an average life, it wouldn’t matter. But now that we’re living well, if we don’t lend a hand, others would talk."

"Our good life has nothing to do with them. We only got better after separating from them," Xiao Qi said.

"My brother is right," Lian Manman continued, "Dad, remember how we discussed it before? We were bothered by how they lazed around. There’s nothing we can do about the older generation, but we wanted to give the younger ones a chance, right? We want to give them a chance to become self-reliant, upright people, and not follow in the footsteps of their elders."

"Finding a good job is already the best way to help. Giving them money would be teaching them to follow in their elders’ footsteps."

"Even if people talk, it won’t affect us. In this village, no one can hide anything from anyone else. They have enough money to marry Si Lang off but choose to waste it on other things. They’re not willing to spend the money they have, so if people talk, they’d be talking about them," Lian Manman added finally.

Lian Shouxin was silent for a long time after listening to his children. What they said was all reasonable, but still, Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou’s favoritism was something he couldn’t change, and he couldn’t bear to see Si Lang suffer because of it.
