Chapter 1092: Be His Mother’s University Junior

Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

The group was heading toward the university’s self-service shopping plaza—a rather impressive entourage consisting of the entire Su family and two dormmates.

But given that it was registration day, the sight of entire families escorting students wasn’t uncommon. Their little procession, while lively, didn’t attract undue attention.

Just as they were making their way forward, a young male voice called out behind them, his tone unmistakably aggrieved. "Tang Xue! I’ve been waiting here for you. How could you forget me? Where are you going? I’ll come with you guys!"

Everyone paused. Tang Xue suddenly remembered something, turned back with a bright smile, and replied cheerfully, "Oh no! Li Juan and I met our new roommate today—we were so excited we totally forgot about you! Thanks again for helping us carry our luggage downstairs. We’re heading to the shopping plaza now. Chen Xi, come with us!"

Gu Zi glanced over at the boy named Chen Xi, who was bounding toward them with visible enthusiasm.

Judging by the energy and that glint in his eyes, he was very likely one of Tang Xue’s admirers. And from the looks of him—everything from his sneakers to his watch dripping with brand names—his family background didn’t seem too shabby either.

But before he could even take more than two steps forward, Chen Xi suddenly darted toward Su Bing and exclaimed in astonishment, "Little Prodigy! What are you doing here?"

Su Bing blinked at him, expression cool and just a little disdainful. Little Prodigy? What kind of childish nonsense was that? He looked at him and asked slowly, "Are you talking to me?"

Chen Xi gave a sheepish laugh. "You’ve forgotten me already? I could never forget you! Remember the train ride the other day? We played that marathon session of Go together?"

Su Bing seemed to recall something, though he couldn’t quite place the face. A lot of people had lost to him that day. He asked plainly, "Were you the one who lost six rounds in a row?"

A flush crept up Chen Xi’s face as he nodded in embarrassment. He really should’ve kept his mouth shut. But quickly recovering, he turned toward Tang Xue and tried to reclaim some dignity. "Tang Xue, you have no idea—I ran into this little genius on my train back from Guangcheng. He’s a total Go prodigy. Losing to him wasn’t even shameful!"

Su Bing had been planning to ignore him, but the ridiculous nickname was still bothering him. He interjected, tone flat: "My name is Su Bing. Not ’Little Prodigy.’"

Tang Xue, sensing that Chen Xi was about to die of embarrassment on the spot, jumped in to smooth things over. "Fate is funny, isn’t it? Chen Xi, Su Bing is my roommate Gu Zi’s son. That’s her youngest boy, Su Li, and the little girl is Su Le. The tall, handsome one—that’s her husband."

Chen Xi quickly greeted Gu Zi and the family, clearly still trying to regain his composure. "So you’re here for university? Your family looks so happy. It’s really sweet, the way they all came along with you. Mr. Su, you’re my role model—I want to be just like you and love my wife wholeheartedly one day!"

As he spoke, his eyes flicked toward Tang Xue with just enough significance to make his intentions clear. Still, he couldn’t help but notice Gu Zi.

She stood out effortlessly—stylish outfit, perfectly styled hair, striking, dignified features, and an air of cultivated grace. It was hard to believe someone so young and glamorous could already be a married woman and mother.

But then again, everyone makes different choices in life. He had no judgment to pass.

The group made their way to the self-service shopping plaza together. By lunchtime, Gu Zi parted ways with the roommates and turned to Su Shen.

"Tang Xue says the canteen’s already open," she said. "Let’s go try the food there?"

They had to eat lunch anyway, and hunting for a restaurant off-campus sounded like a hassle. Eating in the canteen would be simpler and cheaper. Besides, bringing one’s husband and children to dine in a university canteen? That had to be a rare move across the decades.

Su Shen, of course, agreed immediately. He was always worried about Gu Zi overexerting herself. Without a word, he took Su Le into his arms, those impossibly long legs striding confidently ahead.

The kids were delighted with the idea too. They were dying to see what Mom’s university had to offer food-wise—and whether their beloved mother would be tragically underfed in her student days. So they followed their father at lightning speed.

The campus was huge, with more than one canteen.

Wanting to conserve energy, Gu Zi chose the nearest one. It was massive, spanning two floors. The ground floor mainly sold breakfast and noodles, so she led them up to the second level. The children, needless to say, were beside themselves with excitement.

Su Li gasped, wide-eyed. "Mom! Big Brother! This school is huge! And the canteen! Look at all the food! I wish I could go to school here with you!"

Su Bing, as always, was calmer. But he was quietly impressed. He had already made up his mind—when the time came for university entrance exams, this was the university he would apply to. He was going to be his mother’s university junior.

It wasn’t too crowded, and they didn’t even have to queue.

Gu Zi scanned the options and settled on a made-to-order stall. She ordered four dishes: sweet and sour spare ribs, crispy fried pork, stir-fried potato-eggplant-pepper, and sautéed cabbage. For soup, she got a seaweed-egg drop, and for staples, both rice and steamed buns.

The moment Su Li laid eyes on the snowy white steamed buns, he grabbed one and chomped down with gusto—only to end up choking halfway through. Coughing, he reached frantically for his soup.

"Mom," he gasped after a few gulps, "why is this bun so... dense?"
