Chapter 76: The Abyss (2)

This monster standing before me was definitely a lot bigger than me but I don’t have much of a choice but to fight. I did say that I want to become stronger so if this is what it takes then so be it.

A light growl could be heard coming from the monster before him as it stands there staring in his direction. No eyes could really be seen as the monster was purely made from some sort of black mist just like he had in his eye.

I can do this, even if it’s a lot harder without any of my usual abilities. Fighting against some monster without abilities is something I did while growing up anyway.

Goblins, skeletons, and even an orc once in awhile. I just have to treat it the same way and everything will work out somehow.

He rushes in with his sword ready to slice up towards the monster before him. He manages to keep a lot of the momentum as he brings the blade up to cut across it.

It quickly dashes to the side and avoids the attack entirely as it looks at him once again but this time a bright red could be seen from where it’s eyes are.

This monster was just waiting to see how fast or strong I was, wasn’t it? It’s actually smarter than I expected it to be.

I figured that it would be a monster with quite the lack of knowledge on anything at all, yet I was proven wrong in this current predicament. The battle is far from over though so I need to lock in if I’m going to kill this monster.

It disappears as he begins to rush in, but he can hear it moving about the room as he quickly stops in his tracks. Artemis turns to face the footsteps approaching from the right side of him.

Clang!! He just barely manages to block the claws of the monster as it looks him directly in the eyes. So this is what this bastard is going to be like, how lucky for me to be given a challenge.

I haven’t had many problems with fighting against the enemies that have been thrown against me so it’s kind of nice. A real challenge to prove that I deserve the strength I’m seeking.

The claws break through his defense but he just barely manages to dodge the attack as he staggers for a second. After steadying himself he tries to bring his sword down towards the monster as it shifts to the side of each attack.

Having speed like that is going to be a problem for me if I can’t even keep up with the damn thing. I’ve got to pick up my speed somehow if I’m going to defeat this shadow monster.

"You are strong without me too, prove it." The girls voice echoes within the room. Her confidence quite clear in her tone.

Artemis doesn’t let the monsters dodging get to him anymore as he finally focuses a bit more. His speed slowly begins to pick up as he swings his sword with more confidence each time.

Clang! His blade connects with its claws once more but this time he just brings it back and swings again. There was no reason for him to ease up on his attacks, this monster was going to die whether it wanted to or not.

Shatter!!! Splurt!!! His blade breaks through its claws and slices it’s fingers clean off as he brings the blade back around for another slice.

Easily this time he cuts through the defense as his sword cuts across the belly of the monster, the blood that leaked out from its wounds appeared to be purple. It was obvious that it wasn’t normal for a monster to bleed such a strange color but this was a different place.

Keeping focused is how I’ll stay alive in the abyss, otherwise I’ll wind up in the shoes of the monster before me. It expected me to ease up on my attacks which would’ve given it an opening to hit me.

I wouldn’t make a move that stupid against it since it has the advantage of its height and speed. I’d rather be bold, even if it gives me the highest chance of dying to an enemy like this.

The fear of death is something that doesn’t get to me as often since I can return by death but in the abyss I’m not sure if I can come back. This is where I’d go if I died so I don’t want to see what happens if I die here.

It lets out some sort of roar as it stumbles back a few feet, purple blood painting the floor with each step it took. It was clear that the damage was too much for it to handle.

Thud! It fell onto the floor as blood began to form all around it— Artemis took this chance to approach it so that he could finish it off. He plunges his blade into its neck and a small whimper comes out before it goes silent.

Wipe. He cleans his blade off after pulling it out from the monsters neck. This place is going to be quite the challenge for me but it won’t be impossible to make it through it.

There’s probably a lot more of these monsters lurking in the shadows of these buildings. I have no doubt in my mind that I will be seeing more of them very soon with the way that one just roared.

"I knew you’d be able to beat it with no problem. You really are strong Artemis." The girls voice echoes within the room once again.

I’ll make it through these trials so that I can become strong enough to keep my companions from dying again. No one will ever die on my watch, especially if I can acquire the strength to make it possible.

Returning by death will turn into an emergency situation only soon enough.
