Rebirth: The unfavored Princess is the Tyrant King's favorite-Chapter 145: That was the idea
"Are you angry?" Nicholas asked the woman who kept walking away without paying him any attention.
"I dare not," Luciana said in a mocking tone.
"But I’m very happy, shouldn’t that be what is important?" Nicholas whined like an abandoned puppy, trying to get its master’s attention.
The maids and the servants saw the prince acting like a lovesick puppy, and they all tried to look elsewhere, acting as if they did not just witness something that warranted death. This was the famed cold-blooded first prince they were talking about, the known devil.
Luciana glared at him when he said he was happy.
"I can tell, I can tell from his severe bruises that you were a hair’s breadth from killing him," she said sarcastically, and at the same time, that image of Nicholas looking like a spirit of death as he senselessly beat David that night flashed past her mind.
She didn’t even know if she was hallucinating or if it was real because everything after that seemed like a blur.
"That was the idea," Nicholas said. It was as if he was talking about the weather and it caused Luciana to pause, and all the maids and the servants walking behind them also paused, keeping a safe distance from the couple.
"He’s a breathing human being, how can you talk about taking his life like that?" Luciana asked, not understanding why he was always so violent and bloodthirsty.
"He wanted to take away my life. What did you expect me to do? Did you want me to silently watch as he killed me first?" Nicholas spat.
"When did he do that? Why don’t I know about it? Maybe it was a misunderstanding, the second prince is not like that," Luciana defended him.
"You’re so naive!" he spat and angrily began to walk away.
It was Luciana’s turn to chase after him now.
"Nick...wait...stop, I’m not defending him, okay? I didn’t know he did something like that. If something like that happened, why didn’t you tell me? Why don’t I know?" She asked, panting and trying to keep up with his large strides.
He abruptly stopped causing her to hit her head against his hard back.
"Ouch, that hurts," she said, massaging her forehead and nose from the impact.
"If I didn’t see it myself, I’d have thought I had run into a wall," she mumbled under her breath, but Nicholas heard her.
"Stupid!" He said his voice with a hint of anger and helplessness.
"Hey, don’t call me stupid; I didn’t know he did something like that, so why are you angry at me?" She asked,
"That’s why I’m saying you’re stupid, don’t you know that you’re my life? He tried to take you away from me any chance he got so what did you expect me to do?"
Luciana’s eyes widened at his words. ’She was the life David wanted to take away? Like seriously?’ But even though she found it ridiculous she found herself foolishly smiling at his confession.
Seeing this usually cold-faced prince say such sweet words with a straight face, Luciana felt like her whole body had been dipped in honey. She felt like kissing him right there but that would be too bold of her.
Nicholas saw how she began to blush out of the blue and smile foolishly at him, and he began to feel hot all over, even though it was between the hours of 9 to 11 am and the autumn winds were quite cold despite the sun.
"Prepare a carriage for us, the princess consort and I will step out," he said to the guards, breaking Luciana out of her reverie.
"A carriage? Where are we going?" Luciana asked.
"Don’t worry, you’ll know when we get there," he said, but as soon as they approached the stables, Nicholas had a new idea.
"Are you feeling cold?" He asked out of the blue.
"Not so much," she answered feeling puzzled.
"Saddle my horse for me, leave the carriage," Nicholas instructed the stable boy.
"Yes, Your Highness."
In no time the horse was prepared, and Nicholas hopped on. He lowered his hand to Luciana, and she placed her little hands in his large, calloused ones.
In the next moment, Nicholas lifted her as if she weighed nothing and positioned her in front of him, and in the next moment, he bolted with the horse out of the palace grounds.
"Your Highness, your Highness, please wait; you can’t leave the palace without guards," James called out together with the other guards, but Nicholas didn’t even stop and ran out like a gust of wind.
Lady Evelyn and her maids, who happened to be taking a stroll, heard the ruckus and turned to look, only to find maids and guards running around like headless chickens.
She approached them and asked,
"What is happening here?"
James saw it was Lady Evelyn and respectfully bowed. He could see she was showing now and looked quite beautiful even after her pregnancy.
"The eldest prince and the princess consort just left the palace on his horse, we couldn’t follow them. I don’t have any idea which direction he’s going, so I can’t follow him," James reported, only to hear Lady Evelyn angrily scold him.
"How do you do your work? You’re his closest guard, and you are supposed to always be by his side, but you couldn’t even do such a simple task?"
James was caught off guard; he had always pictured Lady Evelyn as a soft-spoken person who was gentle and demure; he had never seen her so angry before.
But he knew he couldn’t complain; he had indeed been a tad bit slow; he should have realized what the prince was about to do when he decided to change the carriage to a horse.
"I’m sorry, my lady; rest assured, I’ll go out and look for them. Besides, the eldest prince is an excellent fighter; no harm would come to him," James said, thinking Lady Evelyn was acting up because she was worried about the prince’s safety.
Evelyn gave just an annoyed "humph" and walked away with her maids in tow.
