Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant-Chapter 455 Playing Schemes with Old Man
Seeing their initial action had succeeded, Yunyi and Huo Jingrui quickly hurried over. They found some vines and tied the men to trees. They also stripped a jacket off one of them, tore it into pieces, and stuffed a piece into each of their mouths to prevent them from waking up, shouting, and ruining everything.
Huo Jingrui collected the wooden guns they had dropped, handed two to Yunyi, and tucked the rest into his own waistband.
With matters here settled, Yunyi followed the clues left by these people, tracking them. Unexpectedly, she actually found the cave where the enemy agents were temporarily staying.
Yunyi quickly extended her spiritual power to probe the cave. She was surprised to find the space inside was quite large, with several smaller, naturally formed caves nested within.
Probing further, she discovered that aside from the enemy agents left on guard, six people were lying in a smaller cave deeper inside. Upon closer inspection, Yunyi spotted Ye Wenhui among them.
Her heart skipped a beat. After a careful spiritual scan, she found nothing amiss with them and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
This cave was some distance from the negotiation site, so the two of them slowly crept closer. However, before they could sneak inside, someone came running back, reporting, "The boss said to bring two hostages over first."
Luckily, they dodged out of sight quickly enough to avoid detection. Those men dragged two hostages out of the cave and led them towards the front.
Seeing this, the pair realized, It looks like we’ll have to deal with them one by one.
So, Yunyi and Huo Jingrui followed behind the group taking the hostages. Once that group was a fair distance from the others remaining at the cave, the pair prepared to make their move.
However, just as they were about to act, they saw Deputy Chief Geng of the Public Security Brigade arriving with several public security officers and comrades from the armed forces department. Clearly, they too had discovered the situation. After Huo Jingrui signaled them, everyone sprang into action instantly.
But these enemy agents were skilled fighters. The moment they saw the uniformed public security officers, they knew their escape route had been cut off and they were being flanked. One of them raised his wooden gun and fired a shot into the air. This alerted everyone—those back in the cave as well as the two parties negotiating at the front.
The scarred man glared fiercely at the public security officers opposite him. "Playing dirty with me, are you? Then none of you are leaving here alive!" He waved to his men behind him. "Kill them all!"
At the scarred man’s command, both sides erupted into a fierce battle.
For a moment, everyone at the foot of the mountain watched anxiously, their hearts in their throats, silently praying for the safety of those who had gone up to capture the enemy agents.
Huo Jingrui and his team struggled but managed to apprehend several enemy agents and rescue the two hostages who had been brought out. Leaving one person to stand guard, the rest rushed towards the cave, fearing the remaining agents might move the other hostages or harm them.
When they arrived, the enemy agents inside were preparing to move the remaining hostages. Seizing the opportunity while the agents inside the cave were busy packing to relocate, Deputy Chief Geng led his team in a surprise rush into the cave.
After a fierce struggle, just as it seemed things were about to be wrapped up, someone shouted, "Stop! Move again, and I’ll kill her!"
Yunyi looked towards the source of the voice and saw Ye Wenhui with a wooden gun pointed at her. Her heart lurched. "Don’t be rash!" she cried out.
Just then, a comrade from the armed forces department also called out, "Don’t hurt the hostage! Whatever your demands are, just state them."
Even though Wenhui was usually carefree and bold, she was scared stiff by such a terrifying situation. Thankfully, she didn’t scream or shout, managing to maintain her composure while waiting to be rescued.
