Rebirth: The Ascent of a Socialite-Chapter 633 - 257: Let It All Go to Ruin
Su Qingzhang left very few things behind in the old villa. This journey home was planned both for himself and for Ziceng, so after giving the butler a simple order to tidy things up, Su Qingzhang suggested taking a walk in the Su Family’s garden.
The cold makes everything on the north side of the garden appear younger due to the lack of sunlight, affecting both people and trees alike.
Pello stood in the study, looking at the Su Family’s garden where the sole cedar tree stood, beside which Ziceng accompanied the wheelchair. She looked petite and delicate, wearing a windproof hat, her clothing too thin for the weather.
The cedar tree, said to be even older than Su Qingzhang, grew very slowly like an old woman with bound feet. Fresh snow from yesterday sparsely covered the spread out cedar branches, making both the tree trunk and the person underneath seem very fragile.
Su Qingzhang sighed, his nose turning red, as he gazed longingly at the courtyard in front of him. To others, the Su Family mansion was already riddled with holes and tottering, but to him, it represented the lifetime of effort he had invested. Now, all of that was about to be left behind with a wave of his hand.
The cruise ship belonging to both the Su and Hang Families had embarked on its mission, with its command now passed to a younger generation.
"When everything settles down, I will join Mr. and Mrs. Hang on the ’Su Hang Star’ for a round-the-world trip," said Su Qingzhang. The ’Su Hang Star’ was the provisional name of the catamaran whose maiden voyage was planned as a six-month global trip.
"Dad, your health isn’t suitable for such a long journey," Ziceng expressed puzzlement over Su Qingzhang’s sudden decision, especially now with his limited mobility. If it had been before... if it had been before... there was no longer such a time as before.
Ziceng gave a wry smile. It was her who had changed Su Qingzhang’s life path. Before her rebirth, if not for her unreasonable tantrums, Su Qingzhang would certainly have gone on a round-the-world trip with Chang Mei.
"Aside from my legs, my physical and mental state now is better than at any time in the past several decades," Su Qingzhang noticed the gaze from the study. Perhaps, it was time to have a talk with Pello and explain to him the events of the past, which might resolve the misunderstandings between these two young people.
When Yang Wuxu entered the room, she saw a torn newspaper on Pello’s desk. Without reading it, she knew what the paper said, "The catamaran of the Su and Hang Families, and Hang Yishao’s proposal to thousands, has even enraged the usually composed Earl of Wizi."
There was no heating on in the study, and it felt gloomy and cold. Yang Wuxu sneered as Pello turned to look at her directly. The coldness of his gaze gave Yang Wuxu a shiver, and the temperature inside seemed to drop even further.
"Where are the photos?" Pello’s voice was steady, without any fluctuation. Seeing that newspaper reminded him of the avalanche incident, and it felt as if the warmth that had always been there was fading.
"What do you mean?" Yang Wuxu watched Pello warily, with the aftereffects of Pello’s last threat still lingering.
"Exactly as you think," Pello said in a deep voice, his silhouette reflected on the window, where the chill air frosted the transparent glass with a layer of hazy ice.
"Do you mean to send them out?" Yang Wuxu thought Pello had changed his mind and intended to destroy those photos. The man’s silhouette in the photos was indistinct, and if sent out, Ziceng would be directly harmed.
Yang Wuxu walked to the window, seeing the father and daughter pair in the garden, but couldn’t comprehend how such a peaceful scene could provoke Pello.
"Think it over, if you send them out, Ziceng’s reputation will be utterly ruined," Yang Wuxu felt reluctant, considering the irreversible damage such intimate photos could cause, especially to a woman who had just become publicly known due to her engagement to Hang Yishao.
"Then let her reputation be ruined," Pello’s hand landed on the desk. Rather than let her marry Hang Yishao, he would prefer to destroy her; the Hang Family would never accept such a woman. Even if Hang Yishao didn’t mind, Mr. and Mrs. Hang wouldn’t welcome such a daughter-in-law. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"You," Yang Wuxu looked at Pello incredulously, "I really don’t understand if you hate her or..."
"Enough with the nonsense, just do as you’re told," Pello replied impatiently. The butler knocked on the door: "Earl, Miss Su would like to speak with you."
