Rebirth Swapped Bride; Married to the Ruthless Cursed Billionaire-Chapter 349: A caregiver.
Chapter 349: A caregiver.
"Fanny,"
Marie gazed at Tiffany’s pallid face, her plump features etched with deep concern.
"Are you really not going to tell Miss Rodriguez about your car accident?"
She knew all too well.
Fanny’s father and grandmother had passed away long ago, and her mother had vanished without a trace after remarrying and moving to another city years earlier.
Miss Rodriguez was the only person in her life who could be considered family.
If even Miss Rodriguez wasn’t informed, there’d be no one left to care.
At this thought, Marie’s kindly face twisted with pity.
This was just too heartbreaking.
Tiffany shook her head, her delicate face ghostly pale, yet her eyes remained clear and steady.
"I’m fine, really.
No need to make Camilla worry over nothing," she said, forcing a faint, apologetic smile at Marie.
"I just hate to trouble you like this."
It was almost laughable, really.
This marked her second hospital stay this year, both due to car accidents.
At the thought, Tiffany couldn’t help but recall Calvin, her eyes flickering with a fleeting trace of complex emotions.
"Don’t be silly, no need to stand on ceremony with me," Marie said, pausing briefly.
A look of guilt surfaced on her plump, fair face.
"It was all my fault last time.
If it weren’t for my sake—"
"Marie,"
Tiffany interrupted gently, her expression calm and composed.
"The wrongdoer got what he deserved, and it’s all in the past now."
She had come to realize later that fortune and misfortune often went hand in hand.
If it hadn’t been for that gathering, that man might not have given up on her.
Had he struck when she was completely off guard, she would have had no chance of escape.
She wasn’t some princess who could expect a prince to swoop in and save her at any moment.
Marie could tell Tiffany truly bore no grudge against her, and she exhaled a long, quiet sigh of relief.
Fanny was someone she had scouted for the company and had watched grow every step of the way.
To her, Tiffany wasn’t just a colleague—she was like a beloved younger sister.
That’s precisely why she felt so guilty about what happened last time and feared it might create a rift between them.
Fortunately, Fanny wasn’t one to hold grudges. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"Marie, thank you for getting me a new phone and helping me recover my SIM card," Tiffany’s voice pulled Marie out of her thoughts. "
But there are two more things I need to trouble you with."
She hated imposing on others, so her words carried a hint of cautious hesitation.
"Of course, if you don’t have time, it’s totally fine."
"Of course I can help," Marie replied, pulling out the food she had packed for Tiffany from the insulated container.
"Here, I made some of your favorites.
Let’s talk while you eat."
Tiffany looked at the steaming food in front of her, warmth swelling in her chest.
Every bit of kindness meant the world to her—she was easily moved.
"Thank you, Marie."
"Don’t be so formal with me," Marie said, waiting until Tiffany had nearly finished eating before speaking again.
"Just tell me what you need help with."
"The hit-and-run case I was involved in is being handled by the police station on the Road in the suburbs," Tiffany said, pulling a handwritten note from the drawer and handing it to Marie.
"Here’s the address.
Could you go there for me and ask about the details of the accident, as well as any updates on the perpetrators?"
She didn’t mention the contact number of the officer that Antonio had given her.
The people behind the hit-and-run had appeared out of nowhere—and vanished just as abruptly.
She had to stay cautious, keeping her guard up against everyone and everything around her.
"Easy enough.
Don’t worry about it," Marie nodded, tucking the note into her bag before looking back at Tiffany.
"You said there was something else?"
"There is,"
Tiffany pressed her lips together, then pulled out another folded sheet of paper.
Her gaze was steady but grave as she met Marie’s eyes.
"I’ll message you every day at the same time.
If I ever miss a day, I need you to contact either of these two numbers and let them know."
One number belonged to Camilla, the other to Calvin.
This wasn’t just a precaution—it was a warning.
Tiffany pressed her lips together.
Someone like her—utterly ordinary and unremarkable—would never be worth this much effort to target for no reason.
Their real motive had to be someone close to her.
The most likely candidate was Camilla.
The second possibility was Calvin, who had suddenly appeared in her life these past few days.
Though Tiffany’s tone remained calm and detached as she spoke, Marie was visibly startled.
The papers in her hands suddenly felt scorching to touch.
"Fanny," Marie grasped Tiffany’s hand, her expression tense.
"Don’t scare me like that. What danger could there possibly be in this hospital?"
"Nothing," Tiffany forced a faint smile, not wanting to alarm her.
"I’m just feeling lonely staying here alone and wanted you to worry about me a little more."
"Really?"
Marie’s eyes bore into Tiffany’s, skepticism plain as day.
"Fanny, if there’s anything wrong, you better not hide it from me."
Her brows furrowed deeply, her tone deadly serious.
"I may not be all that capable, but I won’t hesitate to help where I can."
"Of course it’s true," Tiffany replied, her eyes crinkling into crescents as she feigned nonchalance.
"If I hadn’t messaged you, Marie, it just means I really wasn’t feeling well."
Her tone was light and casual.
"Having you tell my friends, Marie, would be much better than me bringing it up myself."
Marie led a simple life and wasn’t one to overthink things.
Hearing Tiffany say this, she took it at face value.
"Alright, leave it to me," she replied.
Tiffany exhaled softly, though deep down, she hoped such a situation would never arise.
As the two chatted, a sudden knock at the door interrupted them.
Marie turned toward the sound, her face scrunched in confusion.
"Fanny, were you expecting someone?"
"I only told you about the hospitalization," Tiffany said, shaking her head, a flicker of wariness in her eyes.
Rounds were long over—there shouldn’t be anyone visiting at this hour.
"Let me check," Maria said, rising to answer the door.
Tiffany kept her gaze fixed on the doorway, her interlaced fingers tightening ever so slightly. In their line of sight, a petite figure stepped into the room.
"Hello,"
The woman who entered was delicate and charming, her face radiating an innocent, harmless warmth.
"Miss Tiffany," she began, her gaze first lingering thoughtfully on Marie before shifting to Tiffany.
"I’m the caregiver assigned by Dr. Antonio to look after you."
"My name is Kate Jaina—just call me Jiana."
So, this was the caregiver.
Only then did Tiffany recall Antonio’s earlier words.
She nodded slightly, her tightly clasped hands relaxing just a fraction.
"Alright, thank you for your help."
"It’s my job," Jaina replied briskly, already tidying up the leftover meal in front of Tiffany with efficient movements.
"Please don’t stand on the ceremony."
Marie settled back onto the edge of the bed, watching Tiffany with an amused grin.
"Having connections in this hospital really makes a difference," she teased lightly.
"Not only do you get a deluxe suite, but even the caregiver comes pre-arranged."
Tiffany smiled faintly in response but remained silent.
She and Senior Mega could indeed be considered friends, but their relationship was far from being on such intimate terms.
His special care for her was entirely due to Camilla’s status.
Yet, she didn’t want Camilla to owe him any favors on her behalf.
It would be better to leave the hospital as soon as possible.
As the two chatted, the caregiver, Jaina, swiftly tidied up the room with practiced efficiency.
Seeing that Tiffany was in good hands, Marie felt much more at ease.
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Marie took her leave.
For a moment, the hospital room was silent, with only Tiffany and the caregiver remaining.
"I don’t need any help right now.
You can go take a break," Tiffany said.
"I’m afraid that’s not possible, Miss Tiffany."
Jaina shook her head, her face lit with an earnest, guileless smile.
"Dr. Antonio specifically instructed that since your injury is on the head, these next couple of days are critical.
You mustn’t be left alone—I’m to provide round-the-clock care."
Round-the-clock care?
Was her condition that serious?
Tiffany’s brow furrowed briefly before smoothing out again.
