Chapter 1612: Chapter 1614: A Dull Pain
Cheng Cheng walked up to Meng Xinian, wiped the sweat off his forehead, and asked, "Great Officer Meng, did you need something from me?"
"Yes," Meng Xinian replied.
"If it’s about the Chiang Family, I won’t talk nonsense." Cheng Cheng thought Meng Xinian was referring to this. Chiang Xiao’s grandmother was pregnant at her age, which might seem disgraceful to some, but he didn’t think so.
Besides, he wasn’t one to gossip recklessly. How could he casually spread this around?
Meng Xinian shook his head. "It’s not about that. You’re looking for Chiang Xiao because you want to find the person who once saved you, right?"
Hearing these words, Cheng Cheng’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Meng Xinian actually knew about this.
What’s more, he only found out after Cheng Cheng started looking for Chiang Xiao. Could that mean...
"The person who saved me is actually Chiang Xiao?" Cheng Cheng immediately guessed. "It’s her, isn’t it? Back when you were on a mission, something went wrong, and it was Chiang Xiao who stepped in, wasn’t it? The cave connected to the underground river..."
It was indeed him.
Meng Xinian’s tone was flat. "I can tell you this much: the person who saved you is indeed Chiang Xiao. She also asked me to tell you that she doesn’t want you to repay her. Let it go, and don’t bother looking for her."
After learning this, Meng Xinian immediately understood why Cheng Cheng agreed to come over here—it was all because of Chiang Xiao.
But upon hearing this, Cheng Cheng became a bit agitated. "You think I’ll let it go just because you said so? I’m Cheng Cheng. I’ve never owed anyone such a big favor before."
"So, what are you going to do? Find Chiang Xiao and kneel down to knock your head three times in front of her to thank her for saving your life?" Meng Xinian’s lips curled into a mischievous smirk. "Chiang Xiao wouldn’t like that."
"I wouldn’t kneel and knock my head so easily either." Cheng Cheng gave him a look that said, Are you stupid?
"Then what do you plan to do?" Meng Xinian asked.
"I’ll keep the debt of her saving my life right here," Cheng Cheng said, lightly tapping his fist on his chest where his heart was. "But saying thank you to her in person is something I have to do. So, when she gets back, I hope you, Great Officer Meng, can let me see her."
Meng Xinian didn’t respond, turning to leave.
Suddenly, Cheng Cheng called out to him again. "Great Officer Meng, I have another question. Yesterday at the Chiang Family’s house, the painting you took—who was in the painting? Are you looking for the person in it?"
Hearing this, Meng Xinian spun around instantly.
He stared at Cheng Cheng, his eyes deep and unreadable. "Have you seen the person in the painting?"
Cheng Cheng smirked slightly. "Is that someone Chiang Xiao is trying to find? If it is, can I tell her directly?"
Clearly, he knew!
At the very least, he had seen someone who looked like the person in the painting!
Regardless, this was a lead!
Meng Xinian gritted his teeth. "Chiang Xiao left this morning for a field trip. There’s no phone service in the area, and we can’t contact her!"
What kind of timing was that?
Cheng Cheng paused for a moment, then asked, "When will she return to school?"
"In half a month." freewebnσvel.cѳm
Cheng Cheng let out a breath. "In half a month, we’ll need to prepare for the competition."
By then, he wouldn’t have time either.
Meng Xinian stared at him intently and said, "So, why don’t you take me to see that person first?"
Cheng Cheng looked back at him. "Can I trust you?"
"Which part of me seems untrustworthy?" Meng Xinian replied. "If you’re not convinced, we can spar again until you are."
As he spoke, he interlocked his fingers, cracking each knuckle loudly.
Immediately, Cheng Cheng felt the old pain from the punch he’d taken from Meng Xinian not long ago starting to throb again on his cheek.
