Rebirth: Pampered by the Lord-Chapter 1931: Entering the Palace
Although the Prime Minister’s residence was in chaos, the clothes and valuables placed in the cabinets remained intact.
The maid quickly packed the clothes and valuables, took a large bundle, and came out.
The steward prepared a chariot, escorted the madam onto it, and arranged for dozens of guards to safely send her to the palace entrance before they returned.
Even though the Prime Minister’s Mansion ended up in this state, all of the Prime Minister’s belongings were inside, so they still had to stay and wait for the Prime Minister to return and make arrangements.
After the Prime Minister’s Mansion was dismantled by the War Prince, such a major incident occurred. The steward, fearing punishment from the Prime Minister, had already sent someone to report to the palace, hoping to intercept him halfway.
However, after so long, the Prime Minister had not returned; it was estimated that he had already entered the palace.
Inside the Imperial Palace, Fengyang Palace.
The Prime Minister had just arrived at Fengyang Palace and had yet to sip any tea when someone reported that people from the Prime Minister’s residence had come with an urgent matter to report.
The Prime Minister was very angry: "Is there anything that can’t wait until I return? Why disturb me at this moment? Don’t they know I have urgent matters to discuss with the Empress?"
The Empress, resplendently dressed, sat nearby and gracefully smiled: "Father, since there’s an issue at home, let them come in and report it. Knowing what it is will put your mind at ease."
"What issue could there be, if not the War Prince."
"Father, how has it come to involve the War Prince again?"
The Fourth Prince, due to Situtu Xueer, had an eye blinded by the War Prince. Although there wasn’t concrete evidence, the Fourth Prince insisted that the War Prince was responsible, and the Empress naturally believed her son, harboring deep resentment against the War Prince. Now, hearing that her family was also involved with the War Prince, she was understandably curious.
In utter helplessness, the Prime Minister had no choice but to explain to the Empress about the Fourth Prince entrusting him to eliminate Situtu Xueer, the failed mission the previous night, and the arrival of several chariots of corpses early this morning.
Upon hearing this, the Empress’s face changed dramatically: "Oh dear, Father, how could you be so foolish? Xuanxuan is ignorant, but how could you be too? The War Prince is at the peak of power right now, someone we can’t afford to provoke. Matters concerning him will naturally be handled by the Emperor. We should just watch from the sidelines. Why are you so foolish to charge ahead?"
The Empress repeatedly warned the Fourth Prince not to provoke the War Prince.
The Fourth Prince, on the surface, agreed with her but secretly had the Prime Minister act, foolish indeed. Doesn’t he understand that the Prime Minister’s residence shares both glory and disgrace with us?
The Prime Minister was also very regretful: "Seeing Xuanxuan like this, as a grandfather, my heart aches, and I agreed out of soft-heartedness."
The Empress was anxious, pacing back and forth. Offending others might be easier to resolve, but to have offended the War Prince!
The War Prince, with his power reaching throughout the court, even the Emperor fears him to some extent. Furthermore, The Petition of the People reflects the voice of the populace. Under pressure, the Emperor definitely won’t side with the Prime Minister. What can be done now?
The Empress was truly worried now. The Prime Minister’s residence was her and the Fourth Prince’s support; it couldn’t collapse. If it did, she would have no standing in the palace, and then her position as Empress would be precarious.
Indeed, in the palace, a woman’s family status and position are closely linked. Without a strong family as a backing, dreaming of being an Empress is just that, a dream.
