Rebirth: My Reclusive Husband Helps Me Get Revenge!-Chapter 55: Just keep them safe
Mo Ran turned back to Lixue, who handed him a steaming cup of tea. "You’re deflecting," he said softly, taking the cup from her.
She hesitated for a moment before meeting his gaze. "And you’re overthinking," she replied, her tone playful.
Mo Ran didn’t look convinced, but he let it slide for now. "Alright, but don’t think you’re off the hook. If something’s wrong, I’ll find out sooner or later."
Lixue smiled, leaning slightly against the counter. "You sound so confident. Maybe I’ll let you in on my secrets one day."
"Maybe?" He raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into a teasing smirk. "But that’s not very reassuring."
The lighthearted banter eased some of the tension in the air, and Lixue felt herself relax, at least for a moment. They carried their tea into the living room, where Auntie Feng had already set out a tray of fruit and small snacks.
Mo Ran settled onto the couch, pulling Lixue down beside him. "Tell me about the new piece you’re working on," he said, draping an arm around her shoulders.
Lixue hesitated, her thoughts briefly flickering to Yu Jia and the mess she’d left behind. But she pushed it aside, focusing on the warmth of Mo Ran’s presence and the simple comfort of him being home.
"It’s still a work in progress," she said, leaning into his embrace. "But I think it might be something special."
Mo Ran pressed a kiss to her temple, his voice low and steady. "Everything you create is special, Lixue. Don’t doubt that for a second."
His words, though comforting, made her chest tighten. She wondered how long she could keep the storm at bay before it spilled into their carefully built sanctuary.
She turned to Mo Ran wondering what their relationship was like now, she knew they didn’t mind each other presence but was it just that?
"I bought something for you, I made sure to get the finest for my wife... let’s go upstairs I’ll show you.."
Curiosity sparked in her chest as she followed him to their room. The space was dimly lit, the soft glow of the bedside lamps casting warm shadows across the walls.
Mo Ran retrieved two boxes from the dresser, one small and one slightly larger. "Sit," he said, gesturing toward the edge of the bed.
Lixue did as he asked, her heart inexplicably racing as he handed her the first box. Slowly, she lifted the lid.
The rings inside were breathtaking. The first had a dazzling, round-cut diamond at its center, surrounded by smaller stones that shimmered like captured starlight. The accompanying band was equally exquisite, its surface encrusted with a seamless array of micro-pavé diamonds.
"Mo Ran, this is..." Her voice caught in her throat, the words escaping her.
Before she could fully process, he handed her the second box. As she opened it, her breath hitched.
The necklace inside was a masterpiece. Layers of diamonds cascaded down in tiers, each stone meticulously cut and placed to catch the light from every angle. At the center hung a teardrop-shaped emerald, its deep green hue like the heart of a forest, framed by a halo of sparkling diamonds.
"This...this is too much, I can’t accept it Mo Ran.."
Lixue quickly handed it to Mo Ran, at first glance she could guess just how expensive they were, she might have come from a rich family but she had never been given such expensive things before.
"But you deserve it Lixue, they were made specially for you and only you will have it..."
Mo Ran grabbed velvet box, opening a small compartment, he brought out another ring.
"It’s a simple one, you can wear it when you head to work, our names are engrave in it as well. And this is your actual wedding ring, you wear it when we’re together and when you want to reveal our marriage to others."
Lixue eyes widened, she resisted the urge to clean her ears as she felt she didn’t hear his words well.
"Are you saying you don’t mind that I don’t want to reveal our marriage yet?"
Mo Ran nodded as he pushed the ring into her ring finger, with a smile he said "I know you’re not embarrassed to be married into the Mo family neither are you proud. But if you reveal our marriage so soon, you wouldn’t be able to get your revenge or the satisfaction from it. I know when you’re ready, you’ll reveal it.."
Lixue’s heart trembled at Mo Ran’s words. She stared at him, her gaze softening with an emotion she couldn’t quite name. How could he understand her so well, even when she hadn’t voiced her fears or thoughts aloud?
"You... really don’t mind?" she asked softly, her fingers brushing against the ring he had just slipped onto her hand.
Mo Ran’s smile deepened, but there was a quiet intensity in his eyes. "Lixue, I didn’t marry you to put you in a cage or force my expectations on you. I married you because I see how strong the woman at the altar really was, and now I want to see you accomplish whatever it is your heart desires—on your own terms."
The sincerity in his voice left her momentarily speechless. No one had ever placed such faith in her before. It was both comforting and overwhelming.
She lowered her gaze to the delicate ring on her finger, the engraving glinting under the soft light. It was simple, understated, yet the personal touch made it more precious than any gem.
"Thank you," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
Mo Ran reached out, tilting her chin up so their eyes met. "Thank me when you’re ready to stand beside me as Mrs. Mo for the world to see. Until then, I’ll wait. No rush, no pressure."
A faint smile graced her lips, and she nodded. "Alright. When I’m ready."
He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "That’s all I ask."
For a moment, silence stretched between them, but it was a comfortable silence filled with an unspoken understanding.
Finally, Mo Ran gestured toward the jewelry boxes still sitting beside her. "Now, don’t think I’ll let you off the hook for these. The necklace and the other ring—those are yours too. You can’t return them."
Lixue bit her lip, glancing at the extravagant necklace. "I’m not sure when I’d ever wear something so... grand."
"You’ll find the right occasion," he said with a smirk. "And when you do, you’ll look breathtaking. But if it makes you uncomfortable now, just keep it safe."
