Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse-Chapter 88: Scanners
Chapter 88: Scanners
If they won, they would get new members but this was a common occurrence so it didn’t affect them much.
Similarly, if they lost, Xuanyuan Yi would bear the loss and the members would not be affected.
However, the mission points were another matter.
Generally, mission points contributed to two aspects – team ranking and individual ranking.
For example, when a team completed a mission worth one thousand points, the whole one thousand points would be allocated to the team ranking.
On the other hand, the one thousand points would be divided among the team members to improve their individual ranking.
Considering that, the team Overlord members did not want to lose the mission points because this task was especially lucrative.
Even if they only got a part of the points, their team and individual rankings would surely improve a lot from this mission.
Unfortunately for them, Xuanyuan Yi was not a diplomatic leader.
Although he knew the points didn’t just affect him, he didn’t bother with his team mates and immediately nodded to Mo Chenxuan’s suggestion.
"I agree." He said, worried Mo Chenxuan would go back on his words.
At first, Xuanyuan Yi wanted to kill team Legends.
However, after thinking about it, he felt that killing them was too much of a waste.
Most importantly, he wanted to get Qin Wu and step on Mo Chenxuan.
In the end, he decided that forcing team Legends to join team Overlord was the best way to achieve everything he wanted.
However, Xuanyuan Yi was thinking too simply.
In his excitement, he forgot that joining or leaving a team did not require a binding contract.
First, the current members of team Legends could leave the team whenever they wanted.
What did this mean?
It meant that even if Xuanyuan Yi won the gamble, he wouldn’t necessarily get team Legends.
Also, even if team Legends actually fulfilled the gamble, the members were not obligated to stay in team Overlord.
Essentially, this was a riskless gamble for team Legends.
Otherwise, Mo Chenxuan would not have so readily agreed to it.
After all, accidents happened.
If an accident happened causing the team to lose, team Legends would be in trouble if the terms were unfavourable.
Soon after, the two sides wrote and signed an agreement before going their separate ways.
"Sister Qin, is it okay to do this?" Lin Rongrong asked when it was just their team.
When she heard the question, Qin Wu chuckled, looking at Lin Rongrong with a mischievous smile.
"Team Overlord is eager to give us crystal cores. Why should we refuse?"
"Eager to give us..." Lin Rongrong frowned but soon figured it out.
A moment later, she burst into laughter and her shoulders relaxed.
"You are right. There is no reason to refuse free things."
"Sister Lin, what do you mean?" Lu Yanyan asked and Lin Rongrong proudly explained what was going on.
Soon after, the members of team Legends burst into laughter.
"But this trick is so easy. How can team Overlord make such a stupid mistake?" Xiao Junxie couldn’t help but be a little concerned.
"Team Overlord has gotten used to being at the top. They probably don’t expect other people to play tricks on them." Qin Wu explained with a smile.
"They can’t blame us for this." Lin Rongrong said and the others nodded in agreement.
"As for the one hundred thousand crystal cores reward..." Qin Wu glanced at Mo Chenxuan and quickly continued.
"The reward will be divided according to contribution." She said.
In the first days of the apocalypse, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu discussed the distinction between their affairs and the team’s affairs.
Eventually, they decided that the team was just part of their power but not the basis of their force.
As a result, they couldn’t use the team’s crystal cores to purchase the land because they wanted to exclusively own the little kingdom they created.
"There will be a reward for the top contributor. Work hard everyone." Qin Wu encouraged.
"I will work hard." Lu Yanyan raised her hand, causing the others to laugh in amusement.
Soon after, the team encountered two zombies and the atmosphere immediately became solemn.
Normally, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu would leave the weak shrimps to other members of the team.
However, this time, they weren’t just teammates but also rivals.
Considering this, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu did not let go of any zombies they came across.
Similarly, the other team members were also active in seeking out and dealing with zombies.
In this way, the team quickly cleared the driveway and piled the zombie corpses in a big pile.
"Up ahead is the block A ward." Qin Wu stated in a solemn voice.
From what they had uncovered, the maternity hospital had three wards and a theatre.
The three wards were block A, block B, and block C.
Block C was a general hall ward with three rooms and each room had twenty beds.
In the same vein, block B was a semi-private ward with fifteen rooms and each had four beds.
Finally, block A had thirty private rooms and each had one bed.
"Should we enter the block or lure the zombies out?" Lin Rongrong asked.
"It’s best to lure them out." Lu Hao said.
"We don’t know the specific structure of the ward or the arrangement of furniture and other things. It may not be ideal to fight in there." Xu Fei said.
"I also think we should fight outside." Xiao Junxie said.
"The main ward door is closed." Mo Chenxuan stated and Qin Wu nodded before speaking.
"I will open the door first." She said and before anyone could react, she teleported to the main door.
A moment later, she twisted the latch, kicked the door, and then teleported to Mo Chenxuan’s side.
Simultaneously, an excited roar filled the surroundings, followed by shuffling as dozens of zombies poured out of the ward.
"It’s a good thing we didn’t try to enter." Xiao Junxie swallowed.
"We are in a hurry to deal with them but don’t be reckless." Mo Chenxuan warned, looking at everyone with warning eyes.
"We understand." Several people said and Mo Chenxuan nodded.
In the end, winning was good but life was better.
Mo Chenxuan didn’t want his teammates to put the cart before the horse and end up suffering unbearable consequences.
"This place is a hospital and there is a high chance of encountering a healing-type zombie. Be on the lookout for that." Qin Wu reminded and Lin Rongrong looked at her with grateful eyes.
Although she didn’t show or say it, Lin Rongrong was a little anxious.
This time, she hoped she could get some healing-type crystal cores so that her practice would not lag too far behind Xu Fei.
Of the zombies that came out of the ward, twenty-eight were adult-sized and six were foetus zombies.
However, there were no level three zombies so the team could deal with them despite being outnumbered.
"Wu’er, Xu Fei, and I will first deal with the foetus zombies. Everyone else will focus on the others. Stick to the plan." Mo Chenxuan instructed and the others immediately nodded.
Soon after, the team moved towards the ward while keeping an eye on the zombies.
When they were near enough, Lu Yanyan unleashed her ice ability and froze the surrounding area.
At the same time, she waved a small hand and three ice cones flew towards three level one zombies.
The outcome was unsurprising and the little girl couldn’t help but smile proudly.
"Good job." Lu Hao praised while rushing to meet a nearby zombie.
After eliminating all the surrounding zombies, team Legends entered the block A ward.
"Our mission objective is ultra-sound machines. Spread out and look for them." Mo Chenxuan instructed.
When they heard this, the team spread out, leaving Qin Wu and Mo Chenxuan near the entrance.
"Wu’er, we should also move. Let’s collect the hospital beds, beddings, and other useful things."
"Good."
While they were collecting supplies, Qin Wu suddenly stopped in front of an ultra-sound machine.
"Brother Chenxuan, what do you think they want with these ultra-sound machines?" She asked.
"Have you forgotten?" Mo Chenxuan started, rubbing Qin Wu’s hair.
"Forgotten what?"
"The earliest prototypes of scanning machines were transformed from ultra-sound and x-ray machines."
"Come to think of it..." Qin Wu nodded.
In her previous life, everyone was confused when the apocalypse suddenly came.
As a result, it took awhile to understand superpowers and catalogue the different types.
This created an unprecedented loophole for space-ability users.
In the early days, space ability users took the chance to amass a lot of supplies even at the expense of the base and their team mates.
This led to a wave of distrust of space-ability users.
It was not until the research centre developed a scanner that could vaguely see inside a space ability user’s space that the situation changed a little.
This time, the base had a heads-up and had a basic idea of which technologies to expect.
Because of this, the space scanner was several months earlier than in the previous life.
