Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse-Chapter 160: Back
After finding a good spot, Qin Wu took out hundreds of cars, and the group stopped for the day.
In their car, Qin Wu looked at Mo Chenxuan and sighed.
"Look at how badly you are injured." She said, her voice a strange mixture of anger and concern.
"I didn’t mean to worry you. I am sorry." Mo Chenxuan said and was indeed sorry.
He knew he would be injured when he devised the plan.
However, he didn’t think the lightning would be so powerful that it almost reduced him to roasted meat.
"Result?" Qin Wu suddenly asked, and Mo Chenxuan smiled.
"I absorbed a lot of lightning energy, but it needs to be refined. I should be able to advance to level four after refining it all."
Qin Wu was shocked when she heard this.
After all, Mo Chenxuan had just advanced to the mid-stage of level three.
"Is the lightning energy so potent?" She asked, and the man nodded.
"It’s pure but also violent. I need to carefully integrate it with my original power before it can become my own practice."
"That’s..." Qin Wu started but suddenly stopped.
A moment later, she opened the back door, and two people entered.
The two were Xu Fei and Lin Rongrong.
"Boss Mo, I have come to heal your injuries." Lin Rongrong said, and Mo Chenxuan attempted a nod but couldn’t make it because of extreme pain.
"Don’t move." Qin Wu admonished when she saw the man wince.
After that, Lin Rongrong placed her hands above Mo Chenxuan and began healing him.
Unfortunately, she exhausted her ability after only healing the superficial wounds.
"I will recover and then come back." She said, and Qin Wu looked at her with grateful eyes.
"Thank you, Rongrong." She said, but Lin Rongrong rolled her eyes.
"Is there a need for that between us?" She asked, and both chuckled.
"Boss, Academician Luo wants to borrow a crystal weapon." Xu Fei informed, looking at the two.
"Academician Luo is an aerospace engineer and a materials engineer. He has the necessary expertise to design and develop even better crystal weapons." Qin Wu said.
At the same time, she took out a crystal gun from her space and handed it to Xu Fei.
"Give it to him." She said, but soon frowned when she thought of something.
"It’s normal for researchers to discuss among themselves. However, remind him that they are not all in the same group. He needs to be careful with the information he shares."
"I understand." Xu Fei nodded.
Of the fifty-seven researchers, only twenty-three agreed to follow team Legends.
Considering that, information about prospective research directions needed to be controlled to preserve more value for their territory.
Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu understood that survivors needed to be united against external threats.
However, they had a vision that they hoped to achieve.
For that vision, they had to control more resources, which would translate to a heavier say in the base.
Most importantly, the two had never thought of hoarding technology.
Once their research team developed new technology, the goods would be fairly sold to District Eight and other territory residents.
After Xu Fei and Lin Rongrong exited the car, Mo Chenxuan closed his eyes and began refining the lightning energy.
Seeing this, Qin Wu looked out the window with a dazed expression.
It was getting warmer by the day, and summer would arrive in just a few days.
In her previous life, apocalypse summers were equally, if not worse than, apocalypse winters.
During winter, people died of hypothermia, and in summer, people died of heatstroke.
Additionally, zombies were active in summer and often gathered to siege the bases.
Thinking of this, Qin Wu tilted her head, and a trace of unease flashed in her eyes.
’It’s going to be a race against time.’ She thought.
After all, both zombies and survivors were mostly dormant during winter, but the two had a fundamental difference.
When winter was over, the zombies would evolve, but the humans would remain the same.
Considering that, humans could only try to catch up as soon as possible. Otherwise, the human race would not stand a chance against the rapidly evolving zombies and insects.
Qin Wu sighed when she thought this.
It’s because she understood this logic that she didn’t have the heart to be too angry with Mo Chenxuan.
’Chenxuan, I will also find a way to grow stronger.’ She decided.
Time passed, and a few hours later, Xu Fei and Lin Rongrong returned to the car.
After giving Mo Chenxuan the second round of treatment, the two left, and Qin Wu looked at the man with her eyebrow raised.
"I am much better." Mo Chenxuan assured, and Qin Wu sighed in relief.
"What about the lightning energy?" She asked.
"It will take a few days to completely refine and absorb." The man said, and Qin Wu nodded.
Although Mo Chenxuan had not fully recovered, the group didn’t delay the journey and continued walking towards the base.
However, as summer drew closer, more and more zombies awakened, and fights became a common part of travel.
Fortunately, the soldiers were well-trained and the threats were easily dealt with. That said, by the time they arrived at the base, the group had lost fourteen soldiers.
"It’s only three days to summer." Qin Wu said, looking at the new base wall.
Hearing this, Mo Chenxuan nodded and turned to Qin Wu with a thoughtful expression.
"Wu’er, do you remember our first apocalypse summer?" He asked, and Qin Wu subconsciously trembled.
She remembered it like the back of her hand.
At that time, everyone was happy to have survived the miserable winter.
However, their joy didn’t last long.
Before long, the initial bliss turned to discomfort because of the high temperature.
After that, many survivors began to experience dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke. Ultimately, people began to die, food went bad, and a plague-like disease swept the base.
It was a miserable time, which was made worse when a horde of zombies attacked the base.
"I remember the smell." Qin Wu said.
Even now, she could still smell the pungent odour of dirty bodies, rotted food, corpses, and zombies.
"Chenxuan, should we move before the summer starts?" Qin Wu asked, but Mo Chenxuan shook his head.
"Our territory was developed in winter, hence most of the buildings are moist and damp. We should let the place dry out before we move in."
Qin Wu nodded when she heard this.
"Makes sense." She said.
After that, the group walked to the base entrance but didn’t immediately enter the base.
Instead, they gathered and turned to Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu.
"Junxie..." Qin Wu called, and Xiao Junxie immediately stepped forward.
"Assign someone to help the researchers register. Don’t forget to put in for our escort reward." Qin Wu said, not forgetting that the base usually rewarded teams for escorting survivors to the base.
"I understand, boss." Xiao Junxie said and found a soldier to help the researchers.
At the same time, he assigned a few people to look for the relatives of some of the researchers and to also inform the government about the people who wanted to join the institute.
As for those who wanted to join Team Legends, Qin Wu personally paid their entrance fee and arranged their temporary accommodations.
"It’s a good thing there aren’t new people trying to enter the base at this time." Qin Wu said, looking at the empty space before the entrance.
When they first arrived at the base, the place was filled with cars and people.
However, because it was inconvenient to travel during the winter, no newcomers had made the trip to the city B base, leaving the space unusually empty.
"It’s only a matter of time before more survivors begin arriving." Mo Chenxuan said with a heavy expression.
One of the reasons that more survivors would be arriving was because smaller bases would soon be annihilated in zombie sieges.
With luck, a few people would be able to escape, but more would fall under zombie claws.
"Chenxuan..." Qin Wu called with a distressed expression, but Mo Chenxuan shook his head.
"Let’s just do what we can. What we can’t do will depend on luck and other people’s skills." The man said.
By the time all procedures were completed, some base officials had come out to welcome the researchers.
Seeing this, Mo Chenxuan and his people lined up and began entering the base.
Fortunately, testing technology had developed to a point where people no longer needed to be isolated before entering the base.
With a simple test, each person was cleared in less than two minutes and allowed to enter the base.
Compared to when they left, the base was livelier and there were more people on the streets.
"It’s a sign that winter is ending." Qin Wu said and subconsciously smiled.
"Indeed." Mo Chenxuan agreed, also looking around.
Although he was a loner, he still preferred a lively base to a quiet one.
After all, liveliness meant that the human race was still thriving despite the harsh reality.
