Chapter 544: Chapter 427: Grandpa, I Missed You So Much

As the train continually announced its arrival, it slowly pulled into the station and came to a stable stop.

Stepping into Beijing once again and about to see her father, Zhou Jiao couldn’t help but smile. Especially when she saw the upright figure standing on the platform, she let out a cheerful laugh that echoed through the carriage.

"Mom, there’s Grandpa, Grandpa..." Ping’an saw several people outside the window wearing military uniforms and quickly spotted Zhou Xiaozheng, patting the window, shouting loudly.

"Little ancestor, don’t knock. Jiao Jiao, watch your son." Seeing this, Zhang Guoqing quickly stopped him in fright. If he got excited, it wouldn’t just be glass; even steel wouldn’t withstand his son’s pats.

Zhou Jiao waved vigorously at Zhou Xiaozheng, and when she saw that he had noticed, she glanced at the luggage around, "Brother, we have to wait for the cart. Let’s get off first."

Zhang Guoqing already saw his father-in-law walking this way, and estimated he would soon be on the train, and shook his head, "No need to trouble Liu Ming, he’s busy right now. You take the child down, I will carry it with Xiao Wang and the others."

A middle-aged man in the next carriage nudged his companion gently, "Look, I was right. Next door is Zhang Guoqing’s family, and that senior officer below is his father-in-law."

"Haha, let’s get off first; these people are too far from us, better not approach them in ignorance."

"What are you saying? Should we not go help them?"

"Forget it, they have a bunch of guards, no need for us. Let’s go."

Zhang Guoqing, although he didn’t listen carefully, still heard it clearly, and he smiled without moving forward. Fate would let them meet again, and stepping into Beijing, many things could no longer be casual.

Outside, Zhou Jiao, holding her son, smoothly reunited with Zhou Xiaozheng.

"Grandpa, I’ve missed you so much."

Zhou Xiaozheng took him over, "Have you been good on the train?"

"I’m a good baby, a good child. Grandpa, you haven’t said you missed me."

Zhou Xiaozheng patted his head, "Grandpa really missed Ping’an, thinking about him every day, eagerly waiting for him to come home, and bought you lots of toys. Happy?"

Zhou Jiao listened to the grandfather-grandson conversation, took a look at her dad, and slightly frowned. She turned around to look at Xiao Wang and the others, and indeed, they had all lost some weight.

The circumstances were not right, and she couldn’t ask them, "Dad, let Ping’an down, you hold his hand. Is everything okay at home? Did mom go on a business trip?"

"No worries, Dad can hold him fine. With so many things you have, your mom is waiting for you at home with Aunt-in-law."

"So let’s go."

Zhou Xiaozheng looked towards not far away, son-in-law was already saying goodbyes with others, "Alright, let’s go."

The group boarded the car, and it was already dark by the time they reached the courtyard, with Lin Lishan pacing back and forth alone under the streetlight at the Zhou family’s courtyard gate, who ran forward in glee upon seeing the car.

"Mom, slow down." Seeing this, Zhou Jiao smiled and shook her head, calling out with concern.

With her voice, many people gradually came out from the courtyard.

Zhang Guoqing, seeing this, laughed, "Ping’an, quickly come and greet everyone."

Mr. Cheng took the child by hand, "Our Little Ping’an looks so vibrant. Don’t embarrass the child, let’s go inside first."

Cheng Ruzhu patted Zhou Jiao, "Well done! You said you’d go to college, and you went. Auntie is impressed with you!"

"Aunt, why did you come by too? Tomorrow, I can still visit you."

"Anyway, there wasn’t much to do, so I stopped by to see you. Are you tired from the journey?"

Chatting away, the crowd entered the living room, and Aunt Chen came out from the kitchen, happily saying, "Should I set the table?"

Zhou Xiaozheng nodded.

Old Mrs. Cheng quickly shouted, "Don’t prepare meals for us. We’ve already eaten."

Zhou Jiao stood up, "I’ll go to the kitchen and whip up a couple of dishes to go with the wine, so everyone can have a bite."

"Sit down and rest. There’s no need for you in the kitchen, next time we’ll drink. It’s late, we will just sit and leave soon."

Zhou Jiao wasn’t about to let them leave just like that, so she took out a luggage, and headed to the kitchen.

Upon seeing her, Aunt Chen nodded repeatedly, "Luckily, you haven’t lost weight, your complexion looks quite good this time."

Zhou Jiao laughed heartily upon hearing this, "Aunt, I’ve put on weight."

Seeing that she wanted to help, Aunt Chen quickly pushed her out, "These dishes, I will handle. You go and chat with them; they were worried about you not being at home."

"Alright, I’ll go. Thank you, Auntie."

"What are you saying? Go on out. It’s all dishes you love tonight, eat more."

Zhou Jiao felt that coming home was truly wonderful. This was the life she wanted to live.

After dinner, the family saw off the Cheng family and finally could settle down to talk about their own matters.

In the study, Aunt Chen brought in the tea and closed the door as she left.

Zhou Xiaozheng nodded with satisfaction as he looked at his daughter. It seemed she was doing well, this visit made her more cheerful.

"Dad, why have you lost weight? Did the health doctor say anything?" Zhang Guoqing had noticed during dinner, and had been waiting impatiently to ask.

Zhou Xiaozheng waved his hand to stop his wife from speaking, "I’ve had back-to-back meetings recently, and the diet was irregular during business trips. It will recover in a few days."

After he finished speaking, he saw Zhou Jiao gazing at him with doubt.

He smiled, "The doctor said there is nothing wrong, so there is no problem, right?"

Zhang Guoqing slightly shook his head at Zhou Jiao. He estimated that it might be the food not being to his taste. His father-in-law and daughter both had similar preferences, not liking dry food, preferring it fresh. Tomorrow, he’d confirm with the health doctor again. Losing weight wasn’t a big issue, since they were home now, wasn’t it? They would take good care of him.

"Have you arranged everything at home?"

Zhou Jiao nodded, "Just waiting for the report over here."

"You really don’t want Dad to step in? A dormitory with several people, will you get used to it? And food isn’t convenient. Would you reconsider and ask Dad to talk to the school for a single dorm room for you two?"

As soon as he spoke, Zhou Jiao hastily shook her head, "Dad, please don’t ask anyone. So many in the courtyard can adapt, I surely can too, if I can’t, I’ll look for you."

Zhou Xiaozheng shook his head and smiled, "Alright, we’ll do as you say. First register, then see, if it doesn’t work out, we’ll find someone. Dad’s letting you go to college so you can have it a bit easier. If it’s too tiring, don’t go anymore.

Also, my advice is you don’t bring the child along. The courtyard’s daycare is better than outside, even if your mom and I go to work, your aunt-in-law and Aunt Chen are at home."

Lin Lishan nodded and continued, "Mom checked. Over there, the daycare meals are not good, only a few temporary workers taking care of the kids. Besides, you two are only in class in the morning, the rest are mostly activities, some unnecessary to attend. Still best to have Ping’an at home, if anything happens, we can see. A commuter bus often goes to your school from the courtyard, if you miss the child, come back in the afternoon."

Zhang Guoqing looked at Ping’an. Without the child by his side, he wasn’t assured. Not that he worried the child would be bullied, but he thought about his own longing for parents during childhood.

"Dad, I’ll ride over in the morning to scout the route first. If it’s an hour’s drive or there’s convenient public transport, I don’t plan to live outside, rather return with Jiao Jiao every day."

Some things needed to be seen with his own eyes. What he pondered on was, as his father-in-law said, kids couldn’t go to school. If they both had events, Ping’an would be alone at the daycare, which didn’t work. Nevertheless, he didn’t plan to tell Zhou Jiao to prevent her from worrying.

Zhou Jiao couldn’t help but laugh and cry, "There are buses. You needn’t be so nervous. Tomorrow, I’ll go to the school and talk about applying for commuting, without cancelling the dorm. This way, there’s no issue."

Zhou Xiaozheng knew that if his daughter got stubborn, no one could persuade her. He nodded, "So both of you will go to school tomorrow, and see what they say. I have some words for Xiao Wu, take Ping’an and head back to the room first."
