Rebirth in the 50s: The Couple with the Hidden Space-Chapter 499 - 384: Precocious
Back in the provincial city, all the mundane affairs followed.
Seeing that the next day was time to set off, Mr. Lin started going out frequently.
Zhang Guoqing accompanied him twice in one day. After all the social interactions, he already knew the answer in his heart.
Returning to the guesthouse, he picked up his son and found a place with Zhou Jiao.
"Jiao Jiao, I think from the situation, the old man should have discussed the matters about the Lin brothers with those old men. Now he’s probably seeking where they can find opportunities."
Zhou Jiao chuckled, "This side may be settled, but what about the Northwest? Let him busy himself."
Zhang Guoqing looked around and whispered, "Aren’t you curious about who he wants to meet tonight?"
"Who?"
"Uncle Madman! He asked me to call him."
Zhou Jiao furrowed her brows lightly, "Did you agree? Wouldn’t Uncle Madman misunderstand?"
"How could I refuse without calling? I said the old man asked me to call him out for something. Uncle Madman isn’t a fool; he should get the hint. I’ll leave later. Sigh... what a situation." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Zhou Jiao smiled and patted him, "If things don’t seem right, come back. You don’t need to compromise yourself for the Lin brothers. If you’re not pleased, just say it directly; we don’t owe the Lin Family."
Zhang Guoqing nodded, "I’ll see how it goes. If the old man makes demands in the name of my father, I will refuse. Tonight, make sure you and our son get a good night’s sleep. When they leave tomorrow, we’ll let our son have some fun."
With that, Zhang Guoqing affectionately patted Ping’an’s head, "I originally wanted our son to have a good time. Now, these past few days, he’s been so quiet. Son, tomorrow Dad will take you to the streets, you can get whatever you like and talk as much as you want."
Zhou Jiao rolled her eyes at him, reached out to take the child, but even with her arm sore from holding out, the child wouldn’t come over.
"Forget it, I’ll carry him inside first. I haven’t held him much today; our son must miss his Dad, right? Tell Mom if you want to eat anything tonight, okay?"
Back at the guesthouse, Zhang Guoqing discovered something strange—after seeing everyone, Ping’an clung tightly to his neck and refused to come down.
The husband and wife exchanged glances.
No matter who tried to coax Ping’an down, he shook his head.
Everyone laughed heartily seeing this, offering toys and fruits to entice him, but he just buried his head in Zhang Guoqing’s shoulder and wouldn’t lift it.
Only when Zhou Jiao called him would he lift his head to take a glance before clutching his father’s neck tighter and burying his face again.
In desperation, Zhang Guoqing looked at Mr. Lin.
Seeing that the scheduled time was approaching, Mr. Lin laughed and instructed Zhang Guoqing to take the child along.
Not even an hour had passed when Zhang Guoqing returned to the guesthouse holding his son by himself.
In the room, everyone curiously watched the father and son duo.
"How come you came back so soon?"
Zhang Guoqing, who couldn’t help but laugh, said he couldn’t bear to upset his son and chuckled, "The child is a bit sleepy. There’s nothing much for me to do there, so I came back first. The old man is accompanied by a guard and will be back later."
Hearing his explanation, everyone quickly moved to another room to continue chatting, letting the couple take care of the child’s bedtime first.
Once the others had left, Zhang Guoqing quickly closed the door and laughed, "You little rascal! You almost tricked your own dad."
Zhou Jiao watched as Ping’an, who showed no signs of sleepiness, walked over with his little legs to rummage through the luggage and pulled out a bag of toys. She looked over at Zhang Guoqing in confusion.
"Haha...as soon as we got there. Seeing Uncle Madman, Ping’an reached out to be held. Uncle Madman was overjoyed, asking if Ping’an still remembered him while continuously feeding him pastries.
Well, here comes the key part, our son started off smiling but staying silent. Once he was full, the old man started talking with Uncle Madman. Before the old man could say much, our son got off the ground, grabbed me, and said he wanted to leave. Uncle Madman came over to comfort him, do you know what he did?"
Hearing this, Zhou Jiao saw him pause and smiled. She didn’t believe he could hold back once he started talking about their son.
"Hehe...our son giggled at Uncle Madman and the old man, quickly crawled onto me, hugged my neck without saying a word, twisting his body while continuously pointing towards the door."
Zhou Jiao came up and tapped Ping’an on the nose, "You little rascal!"
"Good boy."
Both parents heard their child’s retort and couldn’t help but chuckle quietly.
Zhou Jiao was quite certain that on the way back, Zhang Guoqing must have sung a lot of praises.
She worried that the child’s sense of right and wrong wasn’t strong yet. If he didn’t change, he could end up hearing only what he wanted and thinking he was in the right. She patiently explained over and over what he did well that night and where he didn’t do well.
Now, with the child being so young, no one really minded his manners. But she wouldn’t allow her child to play clever tricks at the cost of losing courtesy.
The next morning at the station, everyone gathered to bid farewell to Mr. Lin, Lin Lishan, and the rest of their party.
As they watched the train depart,
Zhang Guoqing happily lifted his son high, "Son, let’s go!"
Causing Ping’an to giggle, "Play..."
Mother Zhang, concerned, reminded her older son to be careful, "Aren’t you going home?"
"Dad, Mom, let’s wait until tonight to head home." Zhou Jiao quickly linked arms with Mother Zhang, knowing her mother-in-law would worry about spending money again.
When Mr. Zhang looked at the mother and daughter-in-law chatting and laughing in low voices ahead, the smile on his face never faded.
"Ping’an, do you want Grandpa to hold you?"
Zhang Guoqing looked at his son, who was moving his little legs, "He’s been holding back these days, now he doesn’t want anyone to hold him. Dad, I see you’ve listened to enough of those operas, how about we find some new records?"
Mr. Zhang, upon hearing this, thought for a moment and said, "Forget the operas, let’s see if there’s any new storytelling records." He had gained some knowledge now and knew that without saying so, his younger son would certainly go searching, so it was better to ask directly.
Inside the Friendship Mall, Zhang Guoqing had Zhou Jiao accompany his parents while he took his son to the toy counter.
In front of the counter, Ping’an looked for a long time and shook his head.
Zhang Guoqing realized that there weren’t many varieties; they had more toys at home. He considered whether to bring out the electric toys to let the child play with them in the bedroom.
Finding nothing that satisfied the child, he could only take him to the street market, to the amusement park, and to the park, cherishingly capturing his son’s laughing face in the photos with a camera.
The family was most amused when—Ping’an, seeing toddlers his age in the park, liked to stop and call them babies.
Approaching a baby, he would call out ’stinky’; when a baby cried, he clapped happily and giggled.
Seeing an old man with a beard from afar, he insisted on going over to be held, frightening Zhang Guoqing as he quickly picked him up and walked away. His son purely wanted to pull on the man’s beard.
As evening approached, Zhang Guoqing went alone to the military district to pick up the luggage, taking the opportunity to say goodbye to Zhao Chuan Guang.
In private, Zhao Chuan Guang told him that last night, Mr. Lin indeed mentioned to Madman that he hoped his eldest grandson could have a good opportunity to be under his tutelage.
In the end, Madman told the old man to find someone higher up to arrange the transfer as he had no authority to request personnel. It was heard that Mr. Lin was planning to go to the Northwest again.
Zhang Guoqing smiled without commenting. He had no intention of stopping someone else’s job transfer. Only when he was capable and excellent would he fear others.
Capable people are common in the world, but everyone has different goals. Some seek fame, some seek wealth, some seek happiness, and some seek excitement. He simply wished to ensure the future safety of his wife and children, keeping his family safe and sound.
