Rebirth in the 50s: The Couple with the Hidden Space-Chapter 439 - 332: Exposing the Nanny (Part 2)
Zhou Jiao laughed, "How could it be a waste? Yuanyuan, how about we go shopping? Brother, are you okay with taking care of the child?"
Zhang Guoqing couldn’t wait for them to buy things early and send people back home sooner. He repeatedly said, "Leave the house to me. Go now, and remember to bring the coupons."
"Jiao Jiao, really, there’s no need to buy. If you’re sincere about giving, see if Xiao Wu has any clothes he doesn’t wear; his size is about the same as my son’s." Aunt Fen quickly said as she saw them about to leave.
Zhou Jiao paused as she reached to take off her coat. She really hadn’t expected that someone would recognize quality goods and even say something as bold as "if you’re sincere about giving."
Ever since they came to the county town, all of Zhang Guoqing’s clothes were new, all carefully prepared by her mother. Those were good materials. Don’t even mention the wool coats, even the simplest coats weren’t something ordinary people could afford.
Zhou Jiao didn’t say a word, just stared directly at Aunt Fen. She wondered secretly if she was too easygoing. Why did so many people like to break the rules before they were happy?
Aunt Fen squirmed uncomfortably under her gaze. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"Aunt Fen. You are Uncle Dashan’s relative, so I never considered you as someone I hired to help. Just because I didn’t say certain things doesn’t mean we don’t both know it in our hearts. And don’t say things like ’if you’re sincere about giving’ to provoke me. Xiao Wu’s clothes were carefully prepared by my mom; they really can’t be given away! Since you don’t want to go downtown, forget it. Tomorrow when you leave, I’ll just give you money."
After she finished speaking, Zhou Jiao walked straight out of the bedroom, unwilling to pay further attention to the other party.
She was recently sick of such people—acting disgracefully while wanting to maintain a virtuous facade. Especially the Lin Family, they were the most outrageous of all, making her feel even more disgusted. If it weren’t for her father just returning to the Big Courtyard and the worry of affecting the greater situation, how would she not tear off their masks?
Now, even a maid hired with money dared to act all innocent with her, where did the confidence come from? Did they really think a single Zhao Dashan would make her endure with patience?
Zhang Guoqing glanced coldly at Aunt Fen. It seemed he had truly underestimated her. No wonder she could raise a son alone. How did he ever think she had self-respect and self-love, which made him admire her at first?
He said to Zhao Yuanyuan, "You go keep Jiao Jiao company. I need to have a word with her." As he finished speaking, he saw Zhao Yuanyuan hurry and run off, frightened.
"Xiao Wu, don’t say it. Jiao Jiao misunderstood. I didn’t mean anything else. I really didn’t mean anything else." Aunt Fen was truly unprepared for the soft-natured Zhou Jiao to turn against her so suddenly.
Zhang Guoqing frowned, looked at her waving her hands anxiously, and said, "Aunt Fen, you don’t understand Zhou Jiao. She has a virtue, which is that she doesn’t easily get angry. If you managed to make her angry, that says something.
Also, during the days we weren’t home, your behavior with your son overstepped some boundaries, especially your son’s. You should understand what I’m implying by saying this, right? Aside from these minor issues, there’s one major matter. Before I left, I instructed you specifically not to accept anyone’s gifts. But you still accepted them. I don’t want to say any more. Pack your things and tomorrow I’ll take you to the station."
Aunt Fen looked at him, then lowered her head to read. She realized that the couple had caught her son taking things. No matter how much she spoke, it was useless now. She thought Zhou Jiao was easygoing and generous, but she couldn’t help but speak earlier. Knowing earlier, she wouldn’t have said anything, just let them give whatever they wanted.
After a moment, she quietly left the bedroom, returned to the courtyard to look around, and found Zhou Jiao had already left with Zhao Yuanyuan. Standing in the courtyard, she hesitated for a moment before quickly returning to her own room.
She immediately pulled out three pieces of fabric, a big bag of milk candies, and some other small items from under the cabinet, bundled them together, and stuffed them inside the quilt. Seeing the quilt bulge a little, she pressed down hard on it.
Luckily Zhang Guoqing didn’t have X-ray vision, otherwise, he would regret speaking so nicely earlier. At this moment, he was playing with his son, continuously thinking about how to quickly find a satisfactory maid. When he learns the truth later, he would repeatedly regret not getting rid of the freeloaders in his home sooner.
Zhou Jiao took Zhao Yuanyuan to the county hotel to find Sister Wang. This time they left the county without attending Sister Wang and Cheng Feng’s wedding. She intended to meet the bride and apologize.
"Jiao Jiao, did Aunt Fen do something else? Otherwise, you definitely wouldn’t get this angry. It’s over, my mom already scolded my dad for causing trouble, now my dad will definitely feel guilty to death."
Zhou Jiao laughed and patted her, "What are you talking about? Uncle had good intentions, why feel guilty? How would I dare to ask him for help in the future otherwise? I’m not angry at all, just too lazy to deal with the other party. Besides, people are like tea; only with time can you truly know their quality. Didn’t I say Aunt Fen was great at first, too?"
"Then when she’s gone, where will you find a suitable person? Are you really going to let your mother-in-law come take care of Ping’an? Forget about it! I’ll run to your house every day to help with the child, but you’ll have to make me delicious food!" Zhao Yuanyuan, being carefree, felt she made sense and happily made a demand afterwards.
"You’re such a foodie, I can’t afford you. You better go hang out where it’s cool. I’m planning to look after the child myself, as I have nothing else to do anyway." Zhou Jiao teased.
When they arrived at the hotel, they found Sister Wang wasn’t there. Zhou Jiao gave the gift to the head chef to pass it on, trusting he wouldn’t mix up the identical gifts for Sister Wang and him. She didn’t have the heart to stay waiting for Sister Wang to return either.
At this point, she started to worry that Aunt Fen might leave out of spite and sabotage their family meals. She planned to cook herself that night, staying vigilant before the other woman left.
After dinner, while Zhang Guoqing went out to return courtesy calls, Aunt Fen hovered around Zhou Jiao. Now, facing Zhou Jiao’s smiling face, Aunt Fen wanted to say something, but was rendered speechless in the gaze of those dark eyes.
Zhou Jiao saw her hesitating expression, waiting for her to prompt a question. She laughed inwardly, thinking, "If you had known this earlier, why did you do what you did?" She had no interest in exchanging more pointless words with her.
