Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space-Chapter 947: Heavy Snow
The snow showed no sign of stopping. It seemed everything would be at a standstill tomorrow.
Old Yang was sitting next to the tin stove, warming himself. "If only we had lamb, I remember Xiao Jiang’s lamb hotpot was delicious."
"I think Xiao Jiang has a knack for cooking," Han Xiangjun said with a smile.
"I’ll take that as a compliment."
"It is. It’s absolutely a compliment. I’ll go out later and ask Li Yungui if we can buy a lamb from the village for us."
Jiang Xinyu wasn’t concerned about that; they could get the meat and she would cook it for them.
"We have so much pork, so starting tomorrow, everyone will work together and we’ll make sausages. When Old Han goes back, he can take plenty with him."
"You can eat them conveniently on your own; just steam them and they’re ready to eat."
"I’m working tomorrow. Xiao Wei said if I don’t work, I won’t get any."
The couple ignored Han Xiangjun’s teasing remarks.
"Aunt Jiang, do we have a holiday tomorrow too?" Guodong asked.
"Yes, let’s take a holiday. With this heavy snow, it’s not safe."
"So tomorrow the whole family will be together? Brother Guodong can build snowmen at home."
"Sure, I’ll build a snowman for you tomorrow."
In the evening, apart from dumplings, there was corn grits porridge and pickled vegetables. There were also cold dishes like pork liver and pork heart.
Lu Tiezhu came over to pick up Du Fengying because the snow was too heavy, and he was afraid it was unsafe for her. They ended up eating there too.
"Xiao Wei, when are you giving them a holiday?"
"We’ll settle accounts tomorrow. After sharing the money, they can leave. I’m thinking of sending a few of them to the capital, so things can get started quickly on Old Han’s end."
"I think they all can handle it, but if they’re going to the capital, their families should provide them with introduction letters, right?"
"Yes, that’s why I’m thinking they’ll go back on the twenty-fifth. After getting the introduction letters, Old Han will take care of things there."
"I’ll ask them what they think when I go back. It should be fine wherever they go."
"Master Lu, if anyone doesn’t want to go, don’t persuade them. Let them decide for themselves."
After they finished eating, the snow reduced a bit, but there was already a thick layer on the roof.
"Sister Du, don’t start too early tomorrow morning."
"I know. As long as you’re home, Shi Xian won’t be troublesome."
Du Fengying and her companion returned to the dormitory, and Lu Tiezhu poured her some water. "You soak your feet first, I’ll go talk to Shuanzi and the others."
Du Fengying heard what Wei Kaiyun said, "Go ahead, I don’t need you here."
"Master Lu, coming over this late, what’s the matter?" a few young men asked while playing cards.
"Everyone pause for a moment; I have something to say."
"What’s the matter, Master Lu?" asked Big Biao, smiling as he came over.
"Nothing much for you, but if you want to go to the capital, you can."
"Chengzi, you guys are now skilled at making the rocking corn machine. What’s your thought on going to the capital this time? Do you want to go, or stay here?"
Sitting on the side, Shuanzi laughed and watched as it had nothing to do with him.
Chengzi nodded, "Master Lu, I’m fine with going anywhere, I’ll follow Brother Wei’s lead."
"Me too."
...
There were no objections from all seven of them. Actually, it’s the same everywhere, going to the capital would still mean working in the workshop all day.
"Alright, we should be able to split the money in a day or two. If you want, you can go home. But all seven of you need to get an introduction letter from the street, or you won’t be able to go even if you want."
"In this snowy weather with no vehicles, why don’t we just walk back?" suggested Big Biao.
"What else can we do if we don’t walk back?"
"Master Lu, have Aunt prepare some snacks for us, including the meat distributed by the village. The meat Brother Wei gave us should be made into sausages so we can eat or take them with us conveniently later."
Lu Tiezhu had no objections, his wife had mentioned that Xiao Jiang was already preparing them.
"Sure, tomorrow I’ll have your aunt talk to Sister-in-law Wei. Snacks won’t be a problem."
After staying for a while longer, they finally left. Everyone else could take a winter break, but not them. There were too many orders to fill, and the workshop was warm anyway, so it was the same as being anywhere else.
Du Fengying had tidied up; the room was warm and felt especially cozy.
Lu Tiezhu hadn’t thought he would have the chance to start a family, but now he had found a wife he fancied. Naturally, he wouldn’t remain idle.
By the next morning, the snow had stopped. Every household was up clearing the snow, mainly the accumulated snow on the rooftops that had to be removed, otherwise the houses might collapse. While the men cleared the rooftops, the children played below.
"Jianbin, Shi Jing, your shoes are wet, stop playing now."
Jiang Xinyu didn’t want to stop the kids, but she was worried they’d catch a cold.
"Mom, I’m not cold, I’ll play a bit longer."
"Aunt Jiang, I haven’t had enough fun yet."
Jiang Xinyu was helpless; this was the difference between boys and girls.
"Then come in and change your shoes to avoid getting sick."
The two boys ran into the house to change their shoes, then insisted on bringing Feifei with them. "Sister, it’s so much fun, come on, staying inside is boring."
Jiang Feifei shook her head firmly, "I won’t go, it’s cold outside, I’ll just watch you two play. I’m not going out to freeze."
Without any choice, the two went back out to play.
Jiang Xinyu remembered that it should almost be time for class.
"Jianbin, Shi Jing, go to school and tell them there’s no class today."
The two children happily ran off and returned shortly, "Mom, many students are already self-studying."
Jiang Xinyu had no choice but to tidy up and let Wei Kaiyun know she was heading to school. With that kind of learning attitude, it’s hard not to do well.
Both the junior and intermediate class kids had arrived. Jiang Xinyu asked Ga Zi to tell the two teachers not to worry.
Wei Kaiyun cleared snow and then took the two boys outside to shovel more snow, at least clearing the path from home to school, since his wife had to walk there several times a day. It wouldn’t be safe otherwise.
Seeing Wei Kaiyun doing this, other villagers also came out, starting to shovel snow from their homes towards the school.
"Dad, how about we build a snowman on the road?"
"That’s a big project; you probably won’t get approval for it."
The two knew this too, but they could still build a couple for now, right?
By noon, they finally cleared the snow.
After lunch, the couple invited the Li Family brothers.
Currently, the accounts for the rocking corn machine were easy to keep.
The profit was about twenty-five per unit, and each person’s monthly salary was thirty, but Lu Tiezhu’s salary was fifty, as a technician level wage.
Wei Kaiyun took twenty percent of the net profit, while Lu Tiezhu and Old Yang got ten percent each, and the remaining sixty percent belonged to the collective.
The Li Family brothers had no objections to this distribution. In the future, the profit distribution for the capital would not be the same. That meant that in the future, every rocking corn machine sold would bring money to the brigade.
