Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space-Chapter 666 is awesome
Zhao Xiaoli also came out, smiling and greeting everyone.
"The mud bricks are all here, if we don’t finish tonight, there’s always tomorrow."
After exchanging a few pleasantries, people began to work. These mud bricks were initially intended for fencing the yard, but due to Zhao Xiaoli’s confession, Old Yang ended up not using them and hauled stones instead, leaving a lot of high-quality mud bricks unused.
They were all young with plenty of strength, so all three carts were quickly filled.
Ding Xiaojuan smiled at Zhao Xiaoli, "Zhao Zhiqing, I’ll head back first. Let’s chat more when we have time."
On the way back, the young folks discussed and decided to push through tonight and finish hauling.
Chen Hui felt embarrassed as he didn’t have much of a close relationship with them before, but after recent events, it was clear they were all very loyal.
"It’d be too late and disturb Zhao Zhiqing’s rest."
"Chen Hui, why not ask during the second trip? If it’s okay, it’ll save us from bothering them tomorrow."
"That would work, but it might be tough on you guys."
"It’s no bother, we’re here for mutual aid. It’s just a matter of time."
Everyone replied cheerfully.
But Chen Hui thought differently. After a full day of farm work, everyone was surely tired, yet they helped him in the evening—this was true comradeship that he would repay double someday.
Seeing Ding Xiaojuan catch up, "Xiaojuan, could you ask Zhao Zhiqing if it’s okay for the five of us to haul all the mud bricks tonight?"
"It’s exhausting, maybe tomorrow?"
"Just ask, if it’s feasible, then today it is."
"Alright, I’ll ask."
Ding Xiaojuan returned to find their family of three chatting in the yard.
"Ding Zhiqing, something on your mind?"
"Zhao Zhiqing, we’d like to haul the mud bricks tonight."
"Whatever works," Zhao Xiaoli said with a smile.
"Thank you, and sorry for interrupting your rest."
"No problem."
Having received a positive response, Ding Xiaojuan said goodbye and went home.
She informed Chen Hui that Zhao Xiaoli was okay with it, so she didn’t join the second trip. She stayed home to cook, knowing that hauling all those mud bricks would leave them tired and hungry, finishing around eleven o’clock.
She felt it wasn’t right to have them work hungry for her family.
Late at night, Ding Xiaojuan didn’t skimp, she baked corn cakes, cooked porridge, and prepared food for next morning.
There were four eggs, with two used to stir-fry pickles. With bean oil added, it smelled especially fragrant. They also foraged wild vegetables during work, which made another dish.
They worked until 11:30, finally hauling the mud bricks back. It wasn’t just a few hundred, but over a thousand pieces—enough for more than half the yard’s fence.
Ding Xiaojuan prepared hot water for them to wash up before they sat in the yard to eat. Though there was a kang table, there were no small stools, so they ate on the ground.
After eating, they pushed the carts back to sleep, truly exhausted.
Chen Hui lay on the kang and quickly fell asleep, truly worn out, but both knew today’s effort saved them much trouble. Without help, they couldn’t have fenced the yard this year alone.
Feeling sorry for her husband, Ding Xiaojuan fried the remaining two eggs with pickles for breakfast the next day.
"Just keep it for yourself, I’ve slept and feel recovered."
"No way, you need to eat more. I can hold off sending money to family for a few months, till things are better. But you must eat well."
"Alright, I understand. We’ll be back on track in two months."
After breakfast, Chen Hui fetched water to irrigate yesterday’s cabbage seedlings.
This morning, Wei Kaiyun drove a tractor to bring Lv Family father and son back, as their holiday was over. They didn’t return last night because they were brewing liquor.
Lv Beiguang was also welcomed in Li Family Village, teaching everyone brewing, distillation, and even brewed Wei Family two large jars of sorghum liquor.
Li Yungui was delighted. Despite occasional frugality, the men loved their drinks, especially for cold winter days—a perfect treat.
So the village gathered at Wei’s to learn brewing with Lv Beiguang.
Everyone knew the traditional brewing method, but lacked the expertise of brewery workers. Lv Beiguang wasn’t a master but skilled in brewing techniques.
Everyone learned from him; they were very courteous to the father and son.
Lv Beiguang also gave Jiang Xinyu some fruit wine recipes.
"Lv Beiguang, does it mean anything edible can be brewed?"
"Haha, not as exaggerated as you think, just about fermentation. You can try."
"Great, tomorrow brew me a special daughter’s red wine to keep for my daughter when she’s born."
"Sure, no problem. Consider it a gift for my niece."
The next day, many villagers invited Lv Beiguang for help, Wei Kaiyun tagged along, returning the next morning due to the late hours.
The tractor entered the village, many noticed the Lv Family Zhiqing in the car, realizing their connections.
Wei Kaiyun brought some food, and Old Yang was quite happy to see him. After all, he felt bored and wanted to work.
"Why don’t you join the work, otherwise it’s dull? I’ve been going to the melon field every day and finding it quite interesting," Wei Kaiyun teased Old Yang.
"I’m considering it, not planning trips to the city soon."
"By the way, do you have enough diesel? I’ve got plenty."
"If I run out, I’ll get some from you. Are you heading back?"
"Yes, I’m off to the melon field."
Old Yang laughed heartily, "Xiao Wei, you’re something else!"
"Say what’s fit for the moment, I find this life quite good now."
"Well, come fall, when your village harvests, your exoneration will be easier."
"I hope so. I’m off, come find me if anything comes up."
"What could happen? I’m heading to work too."
Old Yang bid farewell to Wei Kaiyun and headed directly to find Wang Shulin. "Village Chief Wang, I want to live in the village and join the work."
"Alright, I can arrange that." Wang Shulin was more than willing, recognizing Old Yang’s skills. Keeping him in the village was definitely beneficial, with many would seek Old Yang’s help.
