Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space-Chapter 644 Exotic
After all, talking can get you benefits. Zhao Xiaoli was acting submissive, maybe she would really succeed and manage to leave here.
Following them, she could eat well and live comfortably. Huang Ying was really getting more and more pleased with the idea.
Ding Xiaojuan saw the expression on her face and sneered inwardly. It was really surprising how everyone here only wanted to gain and couldn’t bear any loss.
"Huang Ying, go call everyone for dinner." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Okay." Since she had thought of a plan, Huang Ying was in a very good mood.
There was an issue during dinner again. Ding Xiaojuan watched Wu Hong devour the food. With a smack, she threw her chopsticks on the table, "Wu Hong, you are really shameless."
"Who are you calling names?" Wu Hong didn’t even lift her head, but her mouth was sharp as ever.
"I’m talking about you. You don’t cook, don’t do any other work, yet you eat more than anyone else.
I’ve decided to eat on my own from now on. As long as Wu Hong is around, I won’t join in."
Ding Xiaojuan had endured enough. Wu Hong was indeed the pick of the bunch, always eating as though she were racing, consuming more than others each time.
If you worked, she wouldn’t mind it, but she came back from work without doing any chores and just waited to eat.
"Ding Xiaojuan, don’t you dare show such disrespect."
Ding Xiaojuan understood everything now and didn’t even bother to acknowledge her.
The five male comrades put down their chopsticks and exchanged glances. The eldest, Chen Hui, spoke up, "Comrade Ding Xiaojuan, the five of us are with you."
The other four nodded, "We want to team up with you."
Which left only Wu Hong and Huang Ying.
"Ding Xiaojuan, I’ll report you to the village chief. You’re not being cohesive and are being individualistic."
"You can go right now, I won’t stop you. If anyone believes that, I’ll accept it, I’d rather carry the blame than get involved with you again."
Huang Ying wasn’t concerned at all. She was completely focused on her plan to move out, so of course, she wouldn’t get involved.
The male comrades kept silent. Although they disliked Wu Hong, they didn’t want to get into a fight with women.
Wu Hong still didn’t put down her chopsticks and continued eating voraciously. It was a habit from her childhood; if she didn’t eat like that, she couldn’t get any food. In her big family, if you didn’t fight for it, you got nothing.
Ding Xiaojuan watched her eating and sneered, "Look at her, she has no class whatsoever."
Everybody continued eating. Until everyone put down their chopsticks, Wu Hong still poured the last bit of pickled vegetables into her bowl, stuffing it into her mouth in a few bites.
Ding Xiaojuan stood up, "Let’s divide the food."
The five male comrades didn’t object. They couldn’t eat as much as Wu Hong anyway. Currently, it felt like the remaining seven people were subsidizing her, and no one was willing to do that.
"Ding Xiaojuan, are you really going to do this?"
"Certainly, Comrade Chen Hui, go get the scales from the team. We’ll settle it today, so I won’t have anything more to do with her."
Chen Hui nodded. Being the oldest and having arrived a year earlier, he was an honest person who didn’t like getting involved, as long as he wasn’t affected.
When Lv Guodong and the other two were around, it didn’t matter to him. If they gave him something, he accepted; if not, he didn’t mind.
But now, his interests were obviously being infringed upon, and that was not acceptable.
Chen Hui found the accountant and borrowed a scale that could weigh thirty pounds, and since everyone was there, no one left for a break.
Ding Xiaojuan didn’t mind the hard work and brought out all the food to be shared into the courtyard.
There wasn’t much left, but whatever was left needed to be divided.
They weighed the total and divided it by eight to get the shares. Since Huang Ying didn’t declare her stance, they weighed her share too.
The food was still with the remaining six people.
"Now that it’s split, in the future, the six of us will not share our meal with you, and you will gather your own firewood. If you two work together, you can cook every other day – we’ll start today, and you two tomorrow. If you separate, then every three days."
This seemed very fair. Ding Xiaojuan felt happy; it was much better not having to mix with those two women anymore.
Huang Ying hesitated. She thought she could definitely move out, but there was a little voice in her mind saying it might not happen.
She had no intention of partnering with Wu Hong at all. With someone like her, she’d stay away if she could.
"The firewood was collected by the five of us, and you two can’t use it. You’ll gather your own firewood for cooking in the evening, and don’t entangle with us. We won’t lend it."
Chen Hui made things clear, making Wu Hong lose face.
"What’s the big deal?" After saying that, she took her food and went straight into the house.
"Comrade Chen Hui, I’ll clean up that firewood room and move in," Ding Xiaojuan said.
Chen Hui looked at Ding Xiaojuan and nodded, "I’ll help you fix it up in a few days; take advantage of the warm weather to fix it so winter won’t be too cold."
"Thank you, Comrade Chen Hui."
Ding Xiaojuan was exhausted, but for her own future comfort, she used her break time to clean out the room that Zhao Xiaoli and the other two had used for study last winter.
She felt pretty good about it; once done, she could gather more firewood. In winter, with a small house and a fire, the place would be warm, especially with a small kitchen-like area with a big stove added, it would certainly be cozy inside.
Ding Xiaojuan collected all her belongings. Looking at her own room now, all the negative feelings vanished.
She didn’t care at all if others thought she wasn’t cohesive. With people like them, cohesion wasn’t possible anyway. She took out a lock and would definitely lock her door when she went to work.
Chen Hui lay on the kang, closing his eyes in thought. He was already twenty-five, and upon seeing Zhao Xiaoli settling down, he suddenly wanted a family too.
He wasn’t willing to marry a village girl, and among the intellectuals, only Ding Xiaojuan was alright. He decided to observe for a while, and if things worked out, they could marry and move out, living like villagers, which seemed nice.
He felt particularly averse to Wu Hong and Huang Ying. He couldn’t ever marry someone illiterate, and not understanding things was even more unacceptable. He’d rather live alone forever.
"Chen Hui, will this cause a scene for the villagers to watch?"
A man, under five foot seven and wearing glasses, asked Chen Hui.
"Fu Xiaoping, let’s not get involved in this matter. If you sympathize with Wu Hong, you can team up with her."
"No way."
Chen Hui laughed sarcastically inside. It was just like that. To put it bluntly, Fu Xiaoping wanted to maintain a clean image even after being involved in something unsavory, truly ludicrous.
