Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space-Chapter 591 Year Gift
Also bought a pound of alkaline noodles, ten candles, and two large packs of matches.
Saw some notebooks and pens for sale and bought them all. Although it’s definitely not enough for all the students, that’s all I can do for now. I’ll buy more and distribute them when I have enough later.
Saw fresh ginger and garlic. Even though they were frozen, I knew they wouldn’t be poisonous and could still be eaten. So, I bought two pounds of ginger and five pounds of garlic.
Jiang Xinyu had been wandering around the supply and marketing cooperative with her daughter for several laps; there really wasn’t anything else necessary. So, they decided it was time to go home.
"Are you three sure there’s nothing you want?"
All three shook their heads, there was really nothing suitable for them.
"Alright, let’s go back. When we go to the city next time, I’ll take you to the big department store."
"Uncle Yang, I just want books, lots of books, nothing else."
"Okay, Uncle Yang will find you some. What about you two?"
"Uncle Yang, I want comic books." Shi Jing was not to be outdone.
"Uncle Yang, I want a slingshot."
"Jianbin, you can ask your Uncle Wei to make one for you; he’s very skillful and it’ll be better than any you could buy."
"Alright, I’ll talk to Uncle Wei when I get home." The little guy had a satisfied smile on his face.
"I want one too, I’ll have my dad make me one too."
By the time they got home, it was already dark, and Sister-in-law Liu had prepared cornmeal porridge.
Wei Kaiyun watched as his wife played with the day’s spoils, smiling on the side, "Wife, does this make you happy?"
"Of course, women are always happy spending money shopping. Come on, let’s eat."
After dinner, Sister-in-law Liu helped warm up water because Jiang Xinyu definitely wanted to bathe, her scalp was itching.
Wei Kaiyun couldn’t move and could only sit on the kang, waiting for his wife to help him wash.
"You should wash your hair today too, just lie on the edge of the kang, hang your head over, and it’ll be done soon."
Wei Kaiyun closed his eyes, enjoying his wife’s service. After he was done washing, Jiang Xinyu started.
Sister-in-law Liu was called in to help, and saw the male head of the house drying Xiao Jiang’s hair, the two looked loving.
"Wife, from tomorrow onwards, you don’t need to go into the kitchen."
"Yes, all the major dishes are ready, the rest can be left to Sister-in-law Liu."
Before her hair was dry, Jiang Xinyu’s eyelids were drooping.
Finally, she lay under the quilt, with Wei Kaiyun sitting by her side helping to dry her hair.
Even Feifei was carried in by Sister-in-law Liu; she’d also had a bath.
Wei Kaiyun had already dried his wife’s hair and quickly came over to take care of his daughter.
"Dad, I can’t keep my eyes open either." Skipping the midday nap was a tough habit to break.
"Alright, you sleep too, I’ll dry your hair for you."
Wei Kaiyun eventually covered both women’s heads with towels, as it was still cold in the room. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
The next morning, the kids were still training, taking a break from study but never missing a day of exercise.
Today was New Year’s Eve, and each household was improving their meals; however, the pork was rationed per person, so there wasn’t much. Luckily, Mr. Wei had treated everyone to meat a few days earlier.
From the moment Sister-in-law Liu finished washing the breakfast dishes, she began preparing lunch.
Shang Zhenkun was still in charge of killing fish and slicing fillets.
Jiang Xinyu also started soaking the dry goods. The lunch was bound to be especially sumptuous.
Shi Jing and Jianbin were hovering around Wei Kaiyun, watching him slowly sand the wood. "Even if you sand it, there’s no rubber band."
The two little guys furrowed their brows; they didn’t know where to find one.
"I’ll prepare everything we can for now, and when Uncle Yang leaves, let’s ask him to help us look for one."
That was all they could do. There was no point in the two being anxious.
Jiang Xinyu sat to the side reading a book and nearly laughed at their worried expressions but managed to hold it in.
At ten o’clock, Jiang Xinyu went down to the main room, there were some dishes she had to make herself.
The cold dishes were ready, along with a big bowl of canned peaches, it certainly was a feast.
There were no green vegetables, but there was nothing she could do about that; next year she must save some spinach.
On New Year’s Eve’s dining table, there was boiled fish, hot pot, steamed pork chunks, sliced meat with chili sauce, and steamed intestines. There was also a roast chicken.
"Wow, it really feels hopeful celebrating this way. But the roast chicken tastes really good."
"I got it from a restaurant friend, there are a few more; take two when you leave."
"One will be enough. Leave the rest for your cravings. Xiao Jiang, you really have a lot of good connections."
"Yes, quite a few secretaries took good care of me, and before I left, gave me a lot of things."
Today, Old Yang and Shang Zhenkun had a few drinks; Wei Kaiyun didn’t touch it. It’s been years since he’d drunk, he’s essentially quit.
"Xiao Wei, have you quit smoking and drinking?"
"Yes, gradually I gave it up."
"Starting a family really makes a difference."
Wei Kaiyun ate with a smile; to be worthy of his wife, he’d do anything. Giving up smoking and drinking was nothing.
"Xiao Jiang, Xiao Wei has changed a lot for you."
"Master Yang, once you have a family, you’ll change too. After all, it’s not just you anymore, there’s the wife and kids."
"Really?"
Jiang Xinyu and Wei Kaiyun both nodded and smiled.
The most popular dishes were, of course, the hot pot and the boiled fish. The couple couldn’t eat them, but seeing others enjoying them made them very happy.
After lunch, Old Yang told the three kids to bundle up; he and Master Shang would take them out for a walk.
Jiang Xinyu had no objections; with two adults accompanying them, she felt much reassured.
In fact, Jiang Xinyu had brought the attitude towards children from the future with her.
Today’s kids are rarely home, but she keeps them close.
Jiang Xinyu leaned on Wei Kaiyun’s chest, "Do you think I’m too strict with the kids?"
"Yes, but as long as you’re happy, that’s what matters."
Jiang Xinyu frowned, "I need to change later on; only by going through experiences can they truly understand.
Keeping them so close might actually be harming them."
"Wife, you shouldn’t say that. You’re doing it all for their good."
"Parents always say it’s for their good, but do the kids want it? I’ll let them out to play more, instead of keeping them home."
Wei Kaiyun said nothing more; his wife was too focused on the kids, but luckily she’d reflected on her actions.
This was good; she was aware of her faults, which was a rare and valuable thing.
Soon, Jiang Xinyu fell asleep. Wei Kaiyun lay beside her, both covered by a quilt.
He slowly turned the pages of a book. He never napped during the day; otherwise, he’d be losing sleep at night.
This book was his wife’s collection of jokes. Some of the jokes were really quite entertaining.
