Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space-Chapter 511 Life
Wei Kaiyun finished tidying up the bedroom and felt especially comfortable, like it was a new room. Was this their belated wedding night?
He stood there grinning foolishly to himself while looking at the bedding on the bed.
Jiang Xinyu checked the time—it was already past five. But there wasn’t any food at home, so they’d have to eat out today, which she really didn’t want to do. But there was no choice.
Right, she could send Wei Kaiyun to buy food while she went out for a bit; then they wouldn’t have to eat out tomorrow.
However, after waiting for a while, Wei Kaiyun still hadn’t come downstairs. Curious, she went upstairs and found him standing there, back facing the door. She had no idea what he was doing.
"Hubby?"
Wei Kaiyun heard his wife’s voice and only then snapped out of it. He immediately turned around, hugged her tightly, and started kissing her.
After a while, they both settled down.
"Let’s go eat. Why don’t you go get food? I’ll go out and see what food I can buy, so we can eat at home tomorrow."
"I’ll go with you; I’m afraid you’ll get tired." Wei Kaiyun still hadn’t let go.
"No need. You can come with me tomorrow; I’ll just go out today. Also, I’m hungry, so you go buy food."
They separated, and Jiang Xinyu thought it might be a good idea to get a bike to make things easier; otherwise, it was too exhausting.
Back at home, she took out five pounds of noodles, ten pounds of rice, ten pounds of flour, a bucket of sunflower oil, a bag of salt, a bag of brown sugar, a bag of white sugar, five pounds of eggs, some tomatoes, and some green onions.
This should last for a while, and she planned to buy the rest tomorrow.
Once everything was sorted, she returned to the living room, contemplating buying fabric tomorrow to make a cover for the quilt, which would be less hassle than repeatedly removing it.
About ten minutes later, Wei Kaiyun returned. Seeing his wife at home, he thought she hadn’t bought anything.
"We’ll have shao mai tonight. I also bought you a sweet soup. Come over and eat."
Jiang Xinyu didn’t really like the local flavors, but she could deal with it for one meal.
As they sat down to eat, she said, "I bought noodles, rice, eggs, and such. We can cook ourselves tomorrow morning."
"You got it so quickly?"
"Yep, as long as you spend more, you can get it."
Wei Kaiyun nodded, agreeing with her logic, so he dropped the subject.
After dinner, he went to the kitchen to wash the dishes and boil water—some bathing before going to bed early. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
They hadn’t been together for over twenty days. He hadn’t given it much thought before, but now with his wife beside him, how could he not think about it?
So he called Jiang Xinyu to join him for a bath, while he took a quick shower himself.
That night, finally having his wife again made him excited and unable to control himself.
Afterwards, he realized, "Wife, I forgot."
Jiang Xinyu was still catching her breath, her mind fuzzy.
It took her a while to process what he meant. Considering her cycle, it was indeed a risky time. But she thought it was just one time and shouldn’t be that lucky.
In the middle of the night, Wei Kaiyun couldn’t hold back his desires and ended up waking Jiang Xinyu.
The next day, Jiang Xinyu asked him to wash the sheets. In the kitchen, she made tomato and egg noodles.
After eating, they tidied up the yard together. Considering they only had about forty days left before leaving, there was no point in planting anything.
They then checked the other two houses, inspecting them inside and out. Assured there were no issues, they were at ease.
Now, Jiang Xinyu hoped for rain to see if there were any leaks in the houses.
"By the way, did you contact your friend? Can they come over?"
"On their way already. They should definitely arrive before we leave, so rest assured."
"We should find him a job here that he can do; it would save him from boredom."
"Let’s ask the textile factory. That’s the only feasible place. Though his leg is a bit stiff, being a guard shouldn’t be an issue."
Then they went to a building where Jiang Xinyu went straight to find the sales clerk.
"Comrade, you’re here?"
"Yes, comrade, I’m here again to see you."
Jiang Xinyu noticed the clerk’s expression suddenly changed, becoming formal. "Serving the people. Comrade, how can I help you?"
Jiang Xinyu immediately caught on. "All reactionaries are paper tigers. Comrade, I’d like to buy fabric."
"You scared me! Our leader just passed by. Comrade, you still want fabric?"
"Yes, I need some more. I want to make a quilt cover."
Eventually, they negotiated to exchange fifty pounds of flour for thirty meters of patterned fabric.
This time, Jiang Xinyu left with the fabric, planning to trade flour in the alley in the evening.
Then she bought various spices, some snacks, and two large basins on the first floor before calling it quits.
Afterwards, they went to the supply and marketing cooperative and bought eggs, chives, cucumbers, and cabbage.
For lunch, they had dumplings stuffed with chives and eggs.
In the afternoon, Jiang Xinyu noticed the fabric washed earlier had dried, so she made the quilt cover while Wei Kaiyun tidied up downstairs.
In the evening, they had rice porridge and leftover dumplings from lunch. "Should we buy a bicycle? This is too inconvenient."
"Alright, I’ll ask at the textile factory tomorrow if we can get a bike ticket."
"If it’s too troublesome, forget it. We won’t be here much longer anyway. If we buy it, it’ll just sit there, and we can take the bus to work later."
"I’ll check. If they have any, we’ll buy it. If not, forget it."
That night, Wei Kaiyun again held Jiang Xinyu tightly and wouldn’t let go.
The next day, they had egg pancakes and tomato egg soup, then took the bus to work.
This time, three more people came, leaving only two to arrive. They said the latest would be by the day after tomorrow.
They all stayed in the dorm of the textile factory. Wei Kaiyun’s excuse was that he was worried about Jiang Xinyu, a girl, being unsafe outside, so he stayed with them.
These three all knew Jiang Xinyu and thought to themselves, how could this tough woman be afraid or unsafe? But no one said it out loud since they’d seen her fighting skills, even if it was a few years ago—still fresh in their minds. The impression was too strong to ignore.
Since there was only Jiang Xinyu as a female comrade, they simply put her with the group. Jiang Xinyu really knew nothing about machinery and regretted not bringing Yao Shimin along. But from what Wei Kaiyun implied, the equipment was all more or less the same. Perhaps they came not for technical reasons but purely to strengthen ties, bridging the gap between the North and South.
