Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space-Chapter 509 buying a house
At this point, neither of them spoke. Spending so much money at once really was a big move.
Cao Xuelian drove the two to the hotel before leaving.
Wei Kaiyun helped his wife fetch water for her to take a bath.
An hour later, both lay on the same bed.
"We can live in our own home now."
Wei Kaiyun smiled, seeing the joy on his wife’s face.
"Yes, as long as you’re happy."
"Actually, I’m worried. We probably won’t come here for over ten or twenty years. Firstly, I’m afraid someone might occupy our house. Secondly, I’m concerned the house might suffer damage over such a long time; if it leaks, it’ll be troublesome."
"Then we should find someone to look after it, and keep in touch often."
"But I’m afraid when the time comes, someone might believe the house is theirs. That would be a mess."
Wei Kaiyun frowned and thought for a moment, "I have a friend about my age, we grew up together. He was injured and can’t settle down, so he lives alone in the old hometown. If it’s possible, we can have him come over and help keep an eye on it."
"You know your friend. If he can come, that would be the best. It will give us peace of mind."
"Alright, I’ll call him tomorrow. Writing a letter is too slow."
Listening to Wei Kaiyun, Jiang Xinyu felt much more at ease. Having someone of their own here to look after things certainly provided peace of mind.
The next day, after going to work, they asked the person in charge who brought them there for leave.
Obviously, it was granted, since not everyone had arrived yet. They were only getting familiar, and once everyone showed up, they’d have to go through this process again.
At noon, they took a taxi to a restaurant, where Cao Xuelian very considerately changed the dishes, finally making Jiang Xinyu feel much better.
After eating, "Ms. Jiang, do you have your identification documents with you?"
"I have them, for both kids and myself. I don’t know if that’s sufficient?"
"It’s fine, but the last contact address will definitely be the same one, right?"
Jiang Xinyu nodded, "Yes, is that okay?"
"That’s fine, the address just has to be clear. It’s convenient for contact if there’s any issue. You can provide a couple of extra ones."
Jiang Xinyu nodded, deciding to also leave Wang Ailing’s contact address, which would be much safer.
Cao Xuelian drove directly to the housing bureau, and Jiang Xinyu observed him greet everyone there, proving himself to be a very resourceful person.
The procedures were completed very smoothly, and in the end, Jiang Xinyu couldn’t help but ask the official handling the paperwork, "Comrade, is the house really mine now?"
"Yes, it’s yours."
"In the future, no one will pop up claiming the house is theirs, right?"
"As long as you have this property certificate, and your name is on it, no one can take it away."
Jiang Xinyu felt relieved and smiled gratefully.
This mainly stemmed from a lack of confidence at the moment; things were too chaotic, and Wei Kaiyun’s identity was relatively sensitive. It would be truly troublesome if they investigated.
Jiang Xinyu and Wei Kaiyun followed Cao Xuelian into the car, "Mr. Cao, please take me back to the hotel."
"No problem, Ms. Jiang has quite a bit of courage."
Jiang Xinyu just smiled, thinking to herself that even if someone tried to find it, they couldn’t. The precious things are safest in one’s own hands.
Upon arriving at the hotel entrance, "You go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy a lock, I’ll go upstairs and fetch something. When you return, honk the horn and I’ll come down. Then we’ll go to the house."
Wei Kaiyun nodded, as they watched Jiang Xinyu enter the hotel, then drove away.
Back at the hotel, Jiang Xinyu drew the curtains, and took out thirty-nine banknotes from her space. Despite her typical small citizen mentality, she truly couldn’t bear to part with them. In the end, she stuffed them into her bag without daring to look, feeling truly reluctant.
Sitting on the bed, she consoled herself that it was nothing. In the future, these three houses would be worth stacks of hundred-yuan bills much taller than her.
After waiting for about a quarter of an hour, she heard a knock on the door.
"Xinyu, it’s me."
Jiang Xinyu carried the bag to open the door, Wei Kaiyun took it. Together, they headed downstairs.
"Mr. Cao, here you go, please count it."
"Heh, let me drive you to your new home."
The three sat in the living room, and Wei Kaiyun handed the bag to Cao Xuelian, "Mr. Cao, please count it."
"Then I won’t stand on ceremony."
"That would be best; counting it face to face is best."
Ten minutes later, Cao Xuelian left with the bag.
"It’s just past three. Let’s go prepare supplies now, ideally, we can move in tonight." Wei Kaiyun grabbed Jiang Xinyu’s hand and pulled her outside.
"We definitely can’t move in tonight; there’s no ready-made bedding. Let’s go check out the building first." Jiang Xinyu also didn’t want to stay in the hotel, it was too uncomfortable. Her slight obsessive cleanliness really made her unwilling to lie on bedding others had slept in.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the building. Quite a few people were inside, so there was no rush for kitchen supplies; bedding was what was most necessary now.
They followed the signs and learned that textiles were on the third floor, so they didn’t bother checking daily items on the first floor and went directly upstairs.
"Are the cloth tickets we have usable?" Wei Kaiyun frowned and said, miscalculating by not thinking of exchanging some local cloth tickets.
"Let’s ask first. It’s clear that what we have definitely can’t be used, but I have plenty of food tickets, most of which are for fine grains. We’re prepared to suffer a loss; someone should be willing to exchange with us." Jiang Xinyu consoled him.
Once on the third floor, Jiang Xinyu headed straight for the cotton counter.
"Comrade, do you need tickets for cotton?"
"Certainly."
"Comrade, foreign cotton tickets can’t be used, right?"
"Can’t be used?"
"Comrade, one more question: is buying cotton limited?"
"No limit."
Jiang Xinyu felt relieved. She leaned over the counter and whispered, "Comrade, I’m from out of town and have no local cotton tickets or cloth tickets. Is it possible to exchange them with food tickets? Nationwide food tickets, all for fine grains."
Even though the natural disasters were over, fine grains were still scarce.
The attendant shook her head, "It’s not possible here, but I can ask around for you."
"Comrade, could you find a convenient place to chat and we can discuss?"
Jiang Xinyu knew fine grain supplies were very limited these days, and sometimes even if you had fine grain tickets, you might not be able to buy them. However, with Wei Kaiyun by her side, she couldn’t just blatantly inquire.
The clerk glanced at Jiang Xinyu, "Follow me."
Jiang Xinyu turned to look at Wei Kaiyun, "I’ll go over for a bit, wait for me here."
Wei Kaiyun nodded and watched her leave with the clerk.
The two walked into a room that was a temporary storage room.
"Say whatever you have to say."
"Comrade, I have rice, white flour, and pasta. Can they be used to exchange for cotton and fabric? I want to make a few sets of bedding."
"You have rice and white flour?"
"Yes, although I didn’t bring the white flour with me, here’s the rice."
