Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space-Chapter 500: Action
"That sounds great, I’ll be with you." Finally, I can spend more time with my wife.
"Qian Jun came looking for me before work ended, asking us to leave together. I mentioned taking leave tomorrow."
"Alright, once we finish eating, I’ll go to the train station for a look. There’s no direct train to Shanghai here; we’ll need to transfer at the Capital."
"Maybe we’ll have a chance to visit home too."
"That works."
Wei Kaiyun finished his meal and rode his bicycle to the train station.
Once he returned, the two began packing. The train departs at four in the morning, and arrives at two in the afternoon.
Satisfied for the moment, Wei Kaiyun hugged Jiang Xinyu, "We’ll be apart for a long time again. When we reach the Capital, have Old Han get us four sleeper tickets."
"How can we do that? Don’t stir up trouble." Jiang Xinyu struggled to sit up, she wants to take a shower, otherwise she’ll have to get up and wash at midnight.
By three o’clock, the two set off, not carrying too much luggage, and arrived at the train station by half past three.
Now, trains don’t have assigned seating; if you manage to squeeze in, you can find a seat.
The two decided that once on board, they would head to the dining car, as it should have seating.
Wei Kaiyun went to buy platform tickets, spending an extra yuan so they wouldn’t have to jostle with everyone.
"What if I don’t go to Shanghai and visit the kids instead?" Jiang Xinyu asked Wei Kaiyun.
"They’ll call roll there, and if you’re absent, they’ll contact the Management Bureau."
"I knew it couldn’t be so simple. Forget it, I’ll call Old Yang when we reach Shanghai; here I’m worried about being watched."
Wei Kaiyun just laughed, being cautious is always wise.
"When do you think our family of four can reunite?"
"Let’s work hard for it. If we manage to transfer jobs over there, it’d be great."
"How about the textile factory over there?"
"This side won’t release us, and the other side won’t accept us. I’ve inquired." Wei Kaiyun has considered many options.
"Ms. Jiang?"
"Mr. Liu?"
"It’s really you! I was worried I’d mistaken someone else. What are you up to?"
"I’m going to Shanghai on a business trip, transferring trains at the Capital. Mr. Liu, are you on a night shift?"
"Yes, the train is coming soon. Follow me; I’ll talk to my colleague and find you a seat."
"No need to trouble yourself. We’re more than enough hassle for you."
"It’s no problem. I’m not sure if there’ll be room, but if there’s one, there can be two. Let’s go."
"Thanks, Mr. Liu." Jiang Xinyu felt happy, everything’s easier when you have acquaintances around.
Wei Kaiyun stayed close to his wife, following behind Mr. Liu.
This must be someone they had contact with during the Russia trip.
The train was delayed by ten minutes. Mr. Liu explained the situation to his colleague, who generously agreed and arranged a sleeper compartment for the two.
Lying on the bed, Jiang Xinyu let out a long sigh, "Ah, it’s great having familiar faces around. Otherwise, who knows how we’d manage."
"Sleep, we’ll arrive soon upon waking."
The two awoke at noon, freshened up, and then went to the dining car for lunch.
The train’s offerings are quite good now. Although pricey, at least they don’t require food tickets.
Every conversation had to include words from the Little Red Book.
Wei Kaiyun was quite familiar with this; it seems he memorized it too.
After eating, they were back in bed, cuddling and reading the Little Red Book. Time passed quickly, and by four in the afternoon, they disembarked.
"I’ll call Qian Jun."
"Okay."
The two arrived at the post office and dialed Qian Jun’s number. "Mr. Qian, it’s Jiang Xinyu. Director Wei and I have arrived at the Capital. We’ll buy tickets to Shanghai shortly.
Also, please let Wang Ailing know to visit my house occasionally."
"Okay, will do. Be careful on the road."
"No worries, Director Wei is with me. Besides, sleeper tickets are quite easy to purchase for long-distance trains."
After hanging up the phone, they returned to the train station. The train to Shanghai departs at one in the morning, two days later. They didn’t waste any words and bought the sleeper tickets.
"Wife, let’s have dinner outside before going home, then find Old Han tomorrow morning."
"Sure, let’s check if the house is ready. We haven’t paid Old Han yet."
"I’ve sent it over, so you don’t need to worry."
"How did you send it?"
"Transferred it to him."
"That works."
They went straight to the restaurant; leaving the Little Red Book behind wasn’t an option here.
Luckily, both had memorized it, otherwise, they’d be kicked out.
They didn’t dare say much outside, hurrying back home after eating.
With the day still bright, Jiang Xinyu inspected the house inside and out, feeling very satisfied.
"This construction team did a great job. If we have time tomorrow, we should get their contact info; in a couple of years, have them come for maintenance."
"No problem, let’s meet Old Han early tomorrow morning."
"Can you find him?"
"Definitely, don’t worry. I’ll look for him tomorrow and invite him over."
Wei Kaiyun went to fetch water, while Jiang Xinyu found bedding to air out for a bit, removing the moisture.
They boiled water for baths, having slept plenty during the day, leaving Wei Kaiyun tireless at night.
Seeing his wife still asleep the next morning, he quietly got up to buy pancakes, tofu pudding, and millet porridge.
Jiang Xinyu woke when he got up but was too lazy to move, knowing she had someone to take care of her made her indulge.
After breakfast, Wei Kaiyun went out, and Jiang Xinyu tidied the house again, even after just one night’s stay, it needed cleaning.
Only during housekeeping does the house feel too big. After two full hours, Jiang Xinyu finally finished and went for a bath, not needing to worry as Wei Kaiyun locked the door from outside.
Once she washed her clothes, Wei Kaiyun returned with Han Xiangjun and one more person.
"Sister-in-law."
Jiang Xinyu smiled, finding the address amusing.
"Where are Shi Jing and Feifei?"
"I sent the kids to the Northeast."
"Why didn’t you bring them to me?"
"Is it safe here?"
Han Xiangjun fell silent; indeed, it wasn’t safe here either.
"Can you bear it?"
"I can’t, so I’m finding a way to visit them."
Seeing Jiang Xinyu slightly gloomy, Han Xiangjun quickly changed the topic, "Oh, this is the master you’re supposed to meet."
Jiang Xinyu discussed some matters with the master and got the address and phone number.
"Master, check the house every two or three years; wherever repairs are needed, get them done thoroughly."
"Sure, don’t worry, I won’t forget."
The three escorted the mason out, then sat together.
"What’s going on with you two?"
"On a business trip together. How’s Jianbin?"
"He’s in school; if he knows you’re here and didn’t meet, he’d be upset. Let’s have dinner tonight."
"Is eating out safe now?"
"Things are lively, but people are hardly prone to violence."
