Chapter 27 - 27 Ten Yuan

Regarding the handwriting, Tang Yue held doubts in her heart. Since Xu Zhenzhen's own handwriting wasn't great, how could she mimic hers?

After the start of school, Tang Yue had seen Xu Zhenzhen's handwriting a few times, and it was not like hers.

On Monday night, Tian Tian had asked for leave to go home, so Xu Zhenzhen just kept following Tang Yue. Tang Yue didn't want to look at her, but she kept sticking by her side.

"Xiao Yue, your uncle's clothing stall must be making a lot of money, right?" Xu Zhenzhen asked casually.

Tang Yue replied: "I don't know."

"Then your uncle, does he have someone?" Xu Zhenzhen asked again.

"I don't know."

"How old is your uncle? He doesn't look much older than you," Xu Zhenzhen persistently inquired.

"Tang Yue, you can't possibly not know how old your uncle is, can you?" Xu Zhenzhen added, not giving Tang Yue a chance to refuse.

Tang Yue pursed her lips and countered without answering: "Xu Zhenzhen, why do you keep asking whether my uncle is single and how old he is? Are you interested in my uncle?"

Xu Zhenzhen blushed.

Tang Yue felt a surge of satisfaction in her heart. The current Xu Zhenzhen had some differences from the future Xu Zhenzhen, at least if she looked closely, she could still discern what expression Xu Zhenzhen had on her face.

"What are you talking about?" Xu Zhenzhen was both angry and annoyed.

"So, is it your aunt who is interested?" Tang Yue pressed.

Xu Zhenzhen opened her mouth, wanting to deny it but couldn't, as her aunt really was interested in Tang Mingli, but outright saying she was interested was too embarrassing for her.

"My uncle has high standards; he wants a girl who has graduated from university," Tang Yue deliberately said so.

Xu Zhenzhen, feeling embarrassed under her gaze, quickly denied: "No, you're overthinking."

Xu Zhenzhen hung her head low, finally quieting down.

Tang Yue took a deep breath, hoping that Xu Zhenzhen's aunt would drop the idea.

She held her books and headed back to the dormitory, then carried a bucket to the hostel's water room downstairs to fetch water. No one else was back yet; only Xu Zhenzhen was in the dormitory.

"Xiao Yue, wait for me." A few minutes later, just as Tang Yue reached the stair entrance, Xu Zhenzhen hurried after her.

"Why are you running so fast? Is there a ghost chasing you?" Tang Yue's gaze landed on Xu Zhenzhen's face, feeling something was off about her rush earlier.

But if she was pressed to pinpoint what was off, she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

"There's only me in the dorm, I just thought it'd be nice to have some company," Xu Zhenzhen grinned, her eyes darting nervously to the side as she changed the subject: "Tian Tian took a leave of absence, I was always going in and out with her, now missing one person, it feels a bit unusual."

Tang Yue didn't reply; she collected the hot water and returned to the dorm. As she approached the dorm door, she could hear the commotion inside.

"Xiao Yue, Liu Fang, have any of you seen my money?" Zhang Minmin had been searching her bed for a long time and couldn't find her money, which she clearly had placed there earlier.

"No." Zhao Xiaoyue shook her head, climbing down from the upper bunk, and asked: "Minmin, where did you put your money?"

"Just put it in the box next to the pillow," Zhang Minmin answered, as she rummaged through the box and couldn't find any sign of the money.

"Isn't this money?" Liu Fang glanced at the stack of one and two yuan bills, along with several ten yuan bills.

Zhang Minmin replied irritably, "It was ten yuan that went missing, the small change is still here. My mom gave me fifty yuan in total, I spent two yuan on a cake, and was supposed to have forty-eight yuan left, you see, now there are only three ten yuan bills."

Fifty; Liu Fang and Zhao Xiaoyue looked at each other, both could see the shock in the other's eyes, they always knew Zhang Minmin was wealthy since her clothes were always the nicest, but they had no idea she could get fifty yuan in a week.

"Ah?" Liu Fang glanced around and asked, "It was just us going out for some snacks, and we weren't gone for long."

"Yes, but where did the money go? Did it grow legs?" Zhang Minmin said angrily, "I only changed my clothes, left the money in this box, and forgot to put it in my pocket. This money was my allowance for the week from my mom!"

At that moment, Tang Yue and Xu Zhenzhen came back.

"Did you two just return to the dorm?" Zhang Minmin asked, her skeptical gaze falling on Tang Yue and Xu Zhenzhen.

"We did." Tang Yue, carrying hot water, walked into the room and started washing her face.

Zhang Minmin immediately followed up, "Then, did you see the money on my bed?"

"No," Tang Yue replied, "I came back to the dorm, grabbed the water bucket and left, I didn't see any money on your bed."

"Really?" Zhang Minmin extended her tone, her words filled with disbelief.

Tang Yue frowned and said, "Zhang Minmin, although my family is poor, we still have dignity."

"I was just asking," Zhang Minmin muttered, and then she turned to Xu Zhenzhen, "Xu Zhenzhen, did you—"

"I didn't see it," Xu Zhenzhen quickly interjected before she could finish, hastily clearing herself, "I came back with Tang Yue; when she went to fetch water, I went along with her."

Xu Zhenzhen spoke swiftly, looking towards Tang Yue for affirmation, "Xiao Yue, I was with you the whole time, right?"

Tang Yue was washing her face and didn't object, suddenly, she recalled the few minutes Xu Zhenzhen had stayed out late, and also her previous odd behavior.

A thought crossed Tang Yue's mind, and it seemed unlikely; such an incident hadn't happened to Xu Zhenzhen in school.

In her previous life, was there such an incident of losing money?

Tang Yue pondered and it seemed there wasn't. Could it be the butterfly effect?

Gradually, Yang Qingqing and Wu Xianhua also arrived, and Zhang Minmin questioned each of them, Yang Qingqing and Wu Xianhua had just got to the dormitory.

"Could the money really have grown legs and run away!" Zhang Minmin was both furious and frustrated, as she searched the bed again, but after turning everything upside down, she still couldn't find the money.

Tang Yue was sitting at the edge of the bed washing her feet, reading a book borrowed from the library, seemingly uninvolved with the dorm room issues.

Xu Zhenzhen was also sitting at the edge of her bed washing her feet, casually asking, "Zhang Minmin, is it possible you took it out and then forgot? Or maybe, when you went shopping, they gave you less change?"

"Impossible," Zhang Minmin stated decisively, "When I came back, I counted it, it was forty-eight yuan, four ten yuan bills, how could it be missing?"

"Then... did you put it in your pocket and it fell out when you went out?" Xu Zhenzhen suggested.

Zhang Minmin denied it, "My clothes are here." She picked up a white dress with polka dots beside her, "I changed my dress before going out, I didn't carry any money in my clothes, how could it have fallen out?"
