Rebirth: I Will Win Easily in the Apocalypse-Chapter 81 - 69 Familiar
Chapter 81: Chapter 69 Familiar
A group of people poured out of the villa; the one they were staying in was located in the middle of the residential area, with the dining hall situated at the entrance of this zone. It wasn’t too far of a walk, taking roughly 10 minutes.
The morning at Liancheng Base had lost the stillness of the previous night, and the streets outside were bustling with many more people, most of whom were heading to the dining hall.
However, what puzzled the group was that only a few people were hurrying out of their homes, carrying hoes or shovels and rushing towards the entrance of the residential area.
The rest had a leisurely air about them, ambling unhurriedly—it seemed they were simply taking an early walk to enjoy the fresh air before casually heading to breakfast.
"Is everyone in this residential area this wealthy? They don’t have to work? Does Liancheng Base have such abundant resources?" Gu Yanlin wondered out loud, voicing the question on everyone’s minds.
The residents of the area seemed to know each other and were curious about the arrival of a few unfamiliar faces; people on the street looked at this group of strangers with confusion.
Those who were in the know started explaining their origins to friends. Yet their voices were loud enough for the newcomers to overhear.
Listening to the increasingly wild speculations—"These people are sent by the state to inspect Liancheng Base," "They are relatives of some officials, and the officials hold significant influence at Liancheng Base," or "Some say they are Special Forces here on a secret mission; they’ll soon build a new city at Liancheng and life will return to normal"— all one could say was that there were all sorts of rumors. And amidst all the unfounded guesses, some actually hit the mark.
Amidst the glances of passersby, they reached the dining hall where the crowd was already sizeable. At the entrance, a queue of around ten people were lined up waiting to enter.
The group joined the queue at the end, inching forward with the line and soon handed over their meal tickets to enter the dining hall.
This dining hall seemed designated for the villa residents alone—it wasn’t too large, able to accommodate just over a hundred people.
Directly opposite the entrance was the serving area, with seating arranged for four at each table—the most common setup in dining halls. After getting their food, everyone found a place to sit, and after the meal, they were to take their trays to a specified location for collection.
What added to the curiosity was a row of seats left vacant by the window. Inside, people had already gotten their food and were looking around for places to sit, yet there seemed to be an unspoken agreement not to sit in the chairs by the serving area.
Following the flow of people inside, the breakfast at the dining hall proved to be very abundant: porridge, steamed buns, dumplings, noodles, stuffed buns, soy milk, tofu puddings, pickled vegetables, and the like—there was no difference from most pre-apocalyptic breakfast offerings.
It served to remind one again of the wealth at Liancheng Base.
Although it had been a long time since they’d had such a rich breakfast, Team 532, acting as if they hadn’t eaten good food in ages, wanted to try a little of everything. Still, in front of others, they maintained their military composure, each taking only as much as they could eat, so no food was wasted.
After the meal, everyone let out a satisfied burp. "Life is truly comfortable here, it’s as if we could just stay," Zhao Rui stretched in a lazy way and sneaked a glance at Chu Guodong, thinking he hadn’t been noticed before saying to the person next to him.
Unfortunately, although Chu Guodong was also chatting with Song Zhao, he heard Zhao Rui’s words: "Why don’t you file a discharge application then, I’ll approve it," Chu Guodong glared at him, saying coldly.
"No, no, Captain, my mistake. How could I possibly discharge when I love our team so much? I will follow you until the day I retire," Zhao Rui hurriedly pleaded, offering a barrage of flattery.
After breakfast, they unanimously decided to take a walk around the vicinity. It was still early, and it was only a bit past 7 o’clock when they finished eating.
The world outside the villa was like a different realm. Those outdoors were mostly rushing about busily; some were even biting into steamed buns while walking, tackling breakfast on the move. This was a true reflection of the post-apocalyptic life for most people.
In contrast, the leisure of most people in the villa district seemed even more abnormal.
The base felt filled with discordance everywhere, a sentiment shared by all.
However, everyone was just making a temporary stop at Liancheng Base for a day, soon to depart, probably deeming it inappropriate to rashly investigate their way of life.
They didn’t wander around for too long, just took a casual stroll around the perimeter of the villa district, then headed back towards the house they stayed in, planning to leave.
Passing by the canteen on their way back, Gu Yanzhi glanced inside. By now, the place by the windows was packed with people chatting and laughing over breakfast.
One person caught Gu Yanzhi’s attention. He looked quite ordinary, the sort of person who could disappear in a crowd, but Gu Yanzhi felt he looked familiar.
Song Zhao, pushing Gu Yanzhi along, followed her gaze towards the canteen. Seeing nothing of note, he asked quietly, "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing," Gu Yanzhi came back to her senses, unable to recall who that person was. They probably weren’t anyone of importance if she couldn’t remember.
On the way back, they encountered a few individuals swaggering down the middle of the road, clearly the type of young masters who trifled with life.
Adopting the attitude of guests who wished to avoid conflict, they deliberately moved to the side of the road to make way for them.
The group facing them suddenly stopped in front of them.
One of them was staring intently at Gu Yanzhi; Song Zhao noticing the lustful look from a stranger towards Gu Yanzhi made him feel very unhappy, returning a frosty stare.
The others formed a circle around Gu Yanzhi.
Seemingly intimidated by Song Zhao’s gaze or the presence of Squad 532, the leader shrank back and then led his companions away.
"Investigate that limping woman we just saw; I’ve taken a liking to her. And that group, they dared to intimidate me; I’ll make them kneel and beg," the leader said arrogantly as the group moved farther away, speaking viciously.
Yet recalling Song Zhao’s icy stare, he couldn’t help but shiver uncontrollably.
"Young Master, those people seem to be temporarily staying at A-9. Your father specifically instructed you to keep a low profile today and not to provoke anyone from A-9," a lackey by his side advised.
"Do you f**king listen to me or the old man? Just go if I tell you to," the young master kicked the speaker in the buttocks, speaking angrily.
After parting ways with those few individuals, the three from the Gu Family and the members of Squad 532 returned to Villa A-9 within a few steps.
Everyone filled the tanks with the oil delivered by the staff the day before, loaded the remaining oil into the vehicles, and then got ready to leave.
As the car drove out towards the exit, Gu Yanzhi looked out the window and saw that person again, she thought to herself. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
This person looked so familiar.
But Gu Yanzhi didn’t dwell on it, as by then, the car had already left Liancheng Base and they continued onward towards their destination.
