Chapter 74 -74: Night Raid
Bai Kairui’s hands were clenched into fists, tightly gripped, as he looked at them with a face full of anger, without speaking.
After hearing the dog bark, he and Xiao Jian had come over. The Chihuahua, upon seeing strangers, became even more agitated. They drew their guns to kill the dog simply as a matter of course—how had that turned into cruelty? There were old people and children in the convoy; wasn’t it cruel to put everyone in danger?
It was easy to utter a few light words from the moral high ground, but why should Bai Kairui and Xiao Jian have to shoulder the name of being cruel and cold-blooded?
Bai Kairui knew that this was because he had refused to take them to join Han Yi’s side, so he was being held a grudge against. Thinking of how his own actions had led to Xiao Jian being accused like this, Bai Kairui felt very ashamed.
Xiao Jian, on the other hand, didn’t care about those cold words. He frowned as he looked at the man crouching on the ground, annoyed. He was a man of few words; when he wanted to do something, he just did it. But the other party was protecting the dog tightly, and he didn’t want to make a big fuss. His original intention weakened since, after all, it had nothing to do with them if that person wanted to court death.
In fact, most of the people in the crowd hoped that Xiao Jian would kill the dog, but they just didn’t want to speak up. Seeing that Xiao Jian seemed uninterested, they became anxious, and several voices jostled to emerge from within the crowd—
“What are we waiting for? Hurry up and drag the dog out! Are we going to wait until it barks again in the middle of the night?!”
“Can we even sleep tonight? Young man, just hand over the dog yourself, it can’t get into the base anyway, what do you need it for?”
“Exactly, it’s just a dog. Once it’s peaceful again, just get another one.”
The young man just held his dog and cried non-stop, without speaking.
Han Jiaojiao couldn’t help but start to feel sympathy for him…
Xiao Jian coldly glanced in the direction of those voices, his face all but spelling “trouble”. He holstered his gun, patted Bai Kairui on the shoulder, and turned to leave, just in time to see Han Yi and Han Jiaojiao standing behind.
Han Yi looked at him, slightly raised an eyebrow, and said, “Go wake up Yan Xiao and Lu Changyuan, grab weapons and find places to take cover.”
Han Jiaojiao was momentarily stunned, knowing in her heart that her brother must have sensed something coming their way.
Han Yi looked at the people gathered together, his tone as cold as the ice of deep winter, “Those who can fight stay, the rest get inside and hide.”
Han Jiaojiao, like a little lackey, also followed with a trembling voice, “Monsters are coming, if anyone staying outside is killed or injured by mistake, we take no responsibility.”
Everyone was taken aback, their complexions drastically changing, and then they all rushed towards the second floor of the service area, leaving behind the scattered tents and campfires outside.
Han Jiaojiao had thought that no one would remain, but surprisingly, there actually were some who stayed.
A portly middle-aged uncle came over and, pointing behind him, said to Han Yi, “Young man, these are my people. There are also a few Superpower Users, you arrange them as you see fit.”
Han Yi didn’t stand on ceremony with him. Seeing they all had guns, he said, “Those with Fire Ability stay behind; others retreat to near the buildings and take cover. When you see Alien Species, shoot at the head.”
“Alien Species?… So that’s what those things are called.” The middle-aged uncle nodded in realization, turned, and urged his subordinates, “Aren’t you going to get moving?! Was what I just said hot air?!”
The men behind the middle-aged uncle ran to the places Han Yi had indicated, leaving behind a thin young man.
“This kid is called Heizi. He can throw Fireballs; he should be the Fire Ability User you are looking for.”
Han Yi nodded slightly, and just as Yan Xiao and Lu Changyuan also arrived, he pointed out Heizi to Yan Xiao and instructed, “Yan Xiao, take him and encircle the first-floor entrance with fire. Don’t let the Alien Species run into the building. Don’t worry about the tents on the ground, just make sure not to burn the vehicles and the building.”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a gunshot rang through the air.
Xiao Jian was lying on the rooftop, having already taken down one with a sniper rifle!
Gunfire brought a sense of urgency. The middle-aged uncle’s expression tightened too, but there was no sign of panic; he must be someone who’d been through many trials.
Han Yi’s tone was light, “Just over a dozen, find some cover.” After speaking, he pulled Han Jiaojiao by the hand and walked behind a large pillar under the eaves.
The others scattered to find their own cover.

Yan Xiao and the young man called Heizi immediately started fires around, Yan Xiao even set ablaze the trees in the planters on both sides, lighting up the entire service area in a fiery glow—
Xiao Jian cursed from atop the vehicle, somersaulting down with another gun in hand. He moved swiftly; as the others were just finding cover, Xiao Jian alone had fired five or six shots, each hitting its mark!
“Be careful! One of them is really fast!” Xiao Jian suddenly shouted.
Yan Xiao madly proclaimed, “Let the young master build up the fire more! See if they’re afraid of it!”
About eight or nine Alien Species rushed towards the service area, and everyone started shooting, gunfire mixing with their ghastly howls in a haunting choir!
One of the Alien Species was incredibly agile, dodging everywhere and remaining unscathed. Han Jiaojiao sensed something amiss in her heart, and just then, a gust of wind suddenly picked up! Yan Xiao was nearly singed by the Fireball he had thrown!
Seeing the flames leaping towards the building, Han Yi’s expression darkened, and he shouted, “It’s a Wind Type Ability, put out the fire!”
Once Yan Xiao and Heizi heard this, they immediately subdued the flames, but it was just then that intense barking erupted from the second floor!
The remaining Alien Species seemed to move at the sound, all lunging for the second story! Even the Speed Ability User Xiao Jian barely managed to take down two, with all remaining bullets hitting limbs or backs of the Alien Species—the Wind Type Superpower User wasn’t hit by a single shot!
Han Jiaojiao also fired several times, believing her marksmanship to be quite good, yet the bullets that were clearly aimed at the Alien Species inexplicably veered off course! It was simply unbelievable!
In the chaos of gunfire, the Alien Species got closer to the entrance. They were about to break through when suddenly, their movement came to an abrupt halt! As if something invisible was strangling their throats, trapping them in place?!
It was within this fortunate one or two seconds of pause that all firepower converged on the few Alien Species, riddling them with bullets in an instant!
—The scene was silent…
After a moment, Han Jiaojiao walked out from behind the pillar as if to check whether those corpses were truly dead. She kicked at them first, then stabbed into their bodies with a Dagger, and finally, stood up and waved cheerfully to everyone around, “All clear, it’s over.”
The men from the gunfight emerged from behind their cover, each face reflecting the joy and relaxation of having survived a calamity.
The middle-aged uncle wiped the sweat from his brow and jogged over to express his gratitude to Han Yi, “Young brother, we owe you big time for tonight. We came all the way from Bashu, and I don’t know how many have perished. To have survived an encounter with a dozen like today really feels like a blessing from above!”
Han Yi showed a subtle smile, holding Han Jiaojiao’s hand, ready to leave.
However, the middle-aged uncle seemed intent on befriending them, and added, “My name is Zhu Changfu. May I have the honor of knowing your esteemed name?”
“Just Han,” Han Yi said, glancing at the people behind the middle-aged uncle, and added, “This place is no longer safe. We’re leaving now, and I suggest you find another place to stay the night.”
Zhu Changfu nodded again and again, “Brother Han is right. Would you mind if we followed behind your vehicle? We’re not familiar with the roads to the north, but don’t worry, Brother Han, I won’t let you suffer any loss. You can take anything you want from our vehicle!”
Han Jiaojiao listened and inwardly clicked her tongue, thinking this Uncle Zhu was really generous… Compared to those who begged miserably, his attitude instead made him quite likable.
“That’s too kind,” Han Yi said, still with an indifferent expression but a much softer tone, “It’s just leading the way. If you trust me, then follow along.”
With that, people on both sides began to pack up their belongings, ready to leave.
