Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Bluffing Through

"Got lost?" Sophie Wilson looked at Charles Seymour.

She had always thought something must have happened during the time she lost her memory, and Charles was surely involved.

Is he about to come clean?

Charles interpreted Sophie’s gaze as surprise and nodded, saying, "You did get lost. According to Lily Warren, it was because you were being mischievous. Actually... it was Lily who sold you."

"Sold?" Sophie asked in shock, "Where was I sold to?"

Charles’s eyes seemed to unconsciously wander, avoiding Sophie’s probing eyes: "I don’t know."

Sophie sneered inwardly, this guy was so guilty he dared to say he didn’t know?

Does he think she’s blind, unable to see through it?

"At the time, Stephen Wilson and Lily Warren searched for a day and a night without finding you, and only then did they report to the police." Charles had just said this when he heard a cold laugh from Sophie.

Charles’s heart suddenly tightened, nervously looking at Sophie, wondering if she had sensed something.

"They searched a day and a night before thinking of calling the police; doesn’t that mean they never really intended to find me?" Sophie sneered, "I’m ninety percent sure that Stephen’s so-called lifelong love is a sham. He’d love it if I just disappeared!"

"Normal parents would report to the police as soon as they realized their child was missing. Stephen is so fake." Sophie’s focus was now entirely on Stephen, as for that certain someone’s small relieved gesture... she decided to ignore it for now.

Things can be discussed between them later, like what kind of "enmity" there was during the time she went missing.

"Are you suspecting..." Charles saw that Sophie hadn’t noticed him and continued to ask about the real issue.

"I suspect... Stephen doesn’t want me to come back ever again. Then, he wants to pin the blame on Lily Warren." At this point, Sophie touched her chin and pondered, "I’m sure now that Grace Wilson is absolutely Stephen’s daughter."

This method, father and daughter are exactly the same, using Lily as a pawn.

"While investigating my biological parents, also check into other things, like whether there’s some inheritance I’m supposed to receive. Or say, something Stephen kept for me when I became an adult that should belong to me."

Sophie mockingly said, "Otherwise, why would Stephen be so eager for me to be gone forever."

"But, how did I come back?" Sophie lowered her head, seemingly pondering with confusion, "I remember waking up in the hospital, and they said I was gravely ill, just barely recovering."

"No memory of being lost, and Stephen doesn’t want me, yet he still acknowledges me as his daughter? Truly strange." Sophie seemed to be talking to herself, but from the corner of her eye she was carefully observing someone’s unconscious nervous reaction.

"It seemed like it was the police who reported to them back then." Charles said, his voice a little tight, "The specifics are unclear; anyway, Stephen acknowledged you."

"He might have been worried that not acknowledging you would lead to other issues." Charles nodded, affirming Sophie’s statement, "Maybe his company’s funds are connected to you, I’ll have someone investigate further."

So, is he trying to brush this off?

Sophie was speechless.
