Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 762 - 679: Bluff
Bai Shasha really didn’t want things to turn out like this, but somehow, they did.
On the other end, Leng Er probably hadn’t expected this outcome either. He was huffing and puffing, silent for quite some time before letting out a sigh: "Honey! It’s okay, please don’t feel bad or get down about it. We’re not in a rush! Where are you now? I’ll come find you!"
Li Si, who was nearby and could hear Xu Er talking, felt genuinely happy for Bai Shasha. This man really loves her.
Bai Shasha’s eyes turned slightly red as she sniffled: "I’m with Si and her husband right now. Where are you? We can come to find you instead!"
"How about we meet up at Long Wu’s restaurant? Is that okay?"
"Okay! See you in a bit!"
After hanging up, Bai Shasha leaned on Li Si’s shoulder: "Si, I really need to treat him better moving forward!"
Li Si smiled and gently patted her cheek: "You should’ve done that ages ago! Relationships are about mutual effort. But from the sound of it, he hasn’t told his parents about this situation yet, has he?"
Bai Shasha straightened up, her face glowing: "He said his phone got lost, so he couldn’t have told them yet, right? That’s such a relief! As long as he hasn’t talked to them, I don’t have to keep stressing about it, you know?"
At the restaurant, Xu Er arrived first.
Long Wu, after receiving his call, came over to join him.
"Who the hell put you through the wringer?"
As soon as he saw Xu Er—looking like a thoroughly wilted eggplant—Long Wu hit him with an opening jab.
And honestly, Xu Er’s current state was straight-up shabby: his hair was a mess, his face looked gloomy, and his whole demeanor resembled someone who’d just been defeated.
Xu Er glared up at Long Wu, who was practically radiating schadenfreude in a flashy red suit, dripping with "playboy" vibes.
"You’re the one who got dunked, dressed like a giant tomato!"
Long Wu smirked dismissively: "Pfft! Can’t handle a little teasing? Spill it already—what happened? Cold Mochen and the others will be here soon. Let me tell ya, you’d better get it off your chest now, or there’ll be no chance later!"
Xu Er gripped his cup tightly, mumbling under his breath: "I thought I was going to be a dad, but it turned out to be a false alarm. Shasha went to the hospital, and she’s not pregnant..."
Long Wu froze. He hadn’t seen this coming. "Well, damn! I thought it was something big! Not to be a downer, but seriously—you guys just got married, and you’re already hoping for a little one?
Let me give you some advice, man: savor the two-person world while you can. Right now, if you feel like eating meat, you can grab it anytime, anywhere.
But once you’ve got a kid, man, I’m speaking from personal experience!"
He held up one finger. "For at least a year, you’ll live like a monk—you might not even catch a whiff of anything resembling meat!
And then there’s surviving all kinds of pregnancy-induced madness! Plus, let’s be real! Not to be crude, but you’ve only just started enjoying the good stuff—now you’re gonna phase it out? Are you serious?"
"Shut up, you idiot!" Xu Er couldn’t help but laugh at Long Wu’s antics, and his mood lifted quite a bit.
Actually, he wasn’t all that desperate for a kid. It was just that once the possibility arose, the excitement of becoming a dad hit him hard, making him eager to meet the little one.
But when it turned out to be false, how could he not feel deflated?
Still, he realized Shasha might’ve taken the disappointment even harder, which was why he put her feelings first and quickly tried to comfort her.
As the two bantered, Leng Mochen and his group arrived.
Li Si chuckled when she spotted Long Wu and asked, "Brother Wu! Where’s Meng Meng?"
Long Wu raised his eyebrows, smiling: "She’s with an Art College teacher in class. She’ll be here later!"
Li Si immediately understood, recalling how Su Meng once mentioned her aspiration to continue pursuing her passion for painting after having her child. Clearly, she was already making good on that promise.
Long Wu turned to tease Leng Mochen: "Cold Er, you’ve been back from abroad for quite a while now, but you haven’t even thought about catching up with me? Not cool, man!"
"Get outta here! Didn’t we meet just the other day? How’s the recruitment for Antique City going these last two days?"
Leng Mochen pulled out a chair for Li Si to sit in first before taking his seat beside her.
Long Wu perked up at the mention of Antique City, brimming with energy: "If I’m in charge, what’s there to worry about? It’s a piece of cake!
Actually, I have an idea for an opening event in mind. A few of the legacy shops we’ve brought into Antique City could host it together to draw in those collectors who are always rummaging around Pan Garden.
In the future, I want our Antique City to secure its spot as a major player in Beijing!"
Leng Mochen nodded. Long Wu might be a big talker, but he was dependable when it came to getting the job done.
Plus, he’d personally invested a lot into this project, so it was clear he’d go all out to make it work.
Meanwhile, Xu Er noticed Bai Shasha being unusually quiet. Realizing something might be bothering her, he immediately spoke up.
"Honey! What’s on your mind? You’re still hung up on that issue, aren’t you? Hey, don’t stress about it! Wanna know why my phone wasn’t working?"
Bai Shasha immediately perked up, nervously asking, "Didn’t you say you lost it? I was calling you nonstop—I was going crazy! You didn’t tell your parents about this, right?"
The thought of his phone being unreachable was maddening enough, but what really scared her was the possibility that he might’ve shared the news with his parents in a moment of excitement.
If that were the case, they’d have a tough time explaining the outcome later.
Xu Er leaned in and whispered to her, "No, I didn’t tell them! Relax, honey, it’s no big deal! I promise I’ll work harder. Getting pregnant isn’t rocket science! Honestly, I’d prefer to enjoy more of our two-person world first—we haven’t had enough sweet moments together yet!"
Bai Shasha shot him a side-eye: "Is that really how you feel? No sugarcoating?"
"Absolutely!"
"Alright, then spill it! How exactly did you lose your phone? Don’t tell me it fell into the toilet or something!" Bai Shasha’s imagination immediately ran wild.
But then she realized that didn’t make sense—he was a guy, not a girl!
Xu Er stared at his wife, amazed by the sheer scope of her imagination.
"After taking Leng Er’s call, I got so worked up rushing back that I apparently left my phone in the hotel lobby where I was checking things out.
Just now, I called the hotel staff and found out that an employee had picked it up and stored it for me. They’ll send it back when someone from their team returns!"
Bai Shasha frowned slightly: "Can that person be trusted?"
Neither of them cared much about losing a physical phone, but the private content stored on it was something they definitely didn’t want others to see.
At that moment, Su Meng showed up, clearly having hurried over. The slight pink tint on her fair cheeks made her look radiant, and Li Si thought her complexion looked great.
Su Meng blinked a few times before settling beside Li Si: "How come you’re free to hang out today? I’ve got so much to tell you!"
Since her husband Leng Mochen had gone abroad, Su Meng had busied herself taking care of their son. Upon his return, she’d switched to spending time with him.
Li Si flashed a playful grin: "Oh, really? Then you’d better start talking—time’s ticking!"
"Buzz off!" Su Meng joked back before turning to Xu Er and Bai Shasha, who had been huddled together whispering since she arrived. With a teasing sigh, she remarked: "What’s with you two? I’ve been here for ages, and you haven’t even acknowledged me! Am I really that unappealing?"
