Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 749 - 666: Why Don’t You Call Her Sisi Anymore (Second Update)
"Hello, Mr. Jin!" Li Si greeted with a smile.
"Hello! Mochen, have you just returned to the country?" Jin Jiachao asked.
Leng Mochen nodded lightly, "Yes, just got off the plane!"
The elevator arrived just then. After the people inside exited, the group entered the elevator.
Jin Yichen greeted Leng Mochen and then turned to Li Si, asking, "Li Si, how is Grandpa doing now?"
His choice of address was deliberate; in front of her husband, he avoided being too intimate.
Because he had heard from Leng Ning that her brother could be a bit sensitive on this matter.
Li Si looked at him in surprise but quickly understood his intentions. Suppressing a laugh, she replied, "Much better! But he still needs to stay in the hospital for observation."
Leng Mochen, with a hand resting discreetly on her waist, gave her a teasing squeeze.
Li Si wanted to evade him, but with people on both sides, she couldn’t move away. She had to give him a warning glare to behave.
Jin Jiachao, having learned the news, had brought his son to visit.
He hadn’t expected to run into them here, and he was still hesitating about the favor Lu the Sixth had asked of him earlier.
Now, seeing this family of three—especially Buding—he couldn’t help but affectionately pinch the child’s chubby little cheek.
"Miss Grandpa Jin?"
Despite his small size, Buding could recognize people. He remembered the old man in front of him had bought him numerous boxes of toys.
Laughing gleefully, Buding stretched his hands out, signaling he wanted a hug.
Li Si chuckled and handed Buding over to Jin Jiachao.
Jin Jiachao held the child carefully in his arms, looking as if he’d happily spoil him enough to let him ride on his neck like a little horse.
Leng Mochen observed the scene, a flicker of thought flashing in his eyes. It was clear that Jin Jiachao absolutely adored his son.
However, he wondered how Jin Jiachao had come to know Lu Qilin?
In his previous life, there hadn’t been any impression of such a connection.
Then again, it wasn’t unusual.
He had left for overseas studies at a young age; there was no way to know whom Lu Qilin might have encountered.
Jin Jiachao, noticing Leng Mochen’s scrutinizing gaze, was slightly moved and began, "Mochen, there’s this matter..."
At that moment, the elevator dinged, arriving on the 15th floor where the old man’s hospital room was located.
As they stepped out of the elevator, Leng Mochen remarked, "Why don’t we find a place to sit and chat later?"
"Sure!" Jin Jiachao decided it would be best to first seek Mochen’s opinion. Besides, there were matters he needed to remind him about, given the history between him and Lu the Sixth—which dated back many years.
No one could say for certain what might have changed in the intervening decades.
When they entered the hospital room, the door to the right was closed. Housekeeper Xu humbly informed them that the old man had just fallen asleep and would wake in a little while, so they should wait.
The group settled into seats in the reception area.
Buding, curious about the new surroundings, was no longer content to remain in Jin Jiachao’s arms.
Stretching his little arms toward his mother, he babbled insistently, "Ah, ah..."
Jin Jiachao handed him back to Li Si with a laugh, "Looks like he thinks hanging around with me, an old man, is boring!"
Leng Mochen glanced over, "Why don’t we head next door first?"
Jin Jiachao had been thinking the same thing. No time like the present; the chance meeting was fortuitous, and with Grandpa Leng asleep, it was better to act now.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that whatever reason Lu the Sixth had for contacting Leng Mochen, it wasn’t trivial.
The two men got up and moved to the adjacent meeting room. Li Si and Jin Yichen exchanged a glance and both started laughing.
Li Si teased him, "Yichen! Why didn’t you call me Sisi anymore?"
Jin Yichen rubbed his nose and chuckled, "Leng Ning mentioned it, and besides, your husband’s aura is quite intense!"
Li Si smiled, then curiously leaned in to ask in a lowered voice, "After I left that day, what did that Sixth Uncle say? How does he know your father?"
She was incredibly curious about the connection between Lu Qilin and Jin Jiachao but didn’t feel comfortable asking directly.
Back in North City, the impression Lu Qilin had left them was somewhat eccentric and mysterious.
Now, he’d shown up in Beijing and reached out to Jin Jiachao.
What exactly was he trying to do?
Jin Yichen had a perplexed expression. "It’s strange. Those two old men went back to the private room to chat. But what they said was like shadowboxing—friendly on the surface, yet nothing concrete.
"I don’t know him; it was my first time meeting him.
"When I got home, I heard my dad mention that he was apparently a famous trader years ago. The two had some sort of connection in the past.
"Beyond that, I don’t know anything!"
"Trader?!" Li Si was surprised by the label, never expecting that Lu Qilin had been involved in that line of work.
Jin Yichen continued to explain with a smile, "You’re younger than me, so you wouldn’t know. During the 80s, it wasn’t like nowadays where you can buy whatever you want anywhere.
"Back then, when the economy was just starting to open up, many people would haul things like watches and radios from the south up here for resale.
"My dad actually did some of that too. I remember he even got cracked down upon in the early days—those folks were labeled as pursuing illicit speculation!"
Li Si nodded in recognition, "Oh, I’ve heard of that!"
"By the way, I heard that Sixth Uncle claims to know your family. When did you meet him?"
Li Si, holding Buding to keep him from tumbling off the sofa, replied casually, "At Shasha’s wedding in North City. He seemed to have a close relationship with Shasha’s dad!"
Jin Yichen’s eyes glimmered with understanding, "Makes sense!"
At that moment, Mrs. Leng entered the room carrying a large food container. Seeing Jin Yichen and Li Si there, she beamed with delight.
"Sisi, Yichen is here?"
Jin Yichen quickly stood up to take the container. "Hello, Auntie. I’m here with my dad to visit Grandpa!"
Mrs. Leng looked at him warmly, "Why are you still calling me Auntie? You and Xiao Ning are already engaged—call me Mom instead! You keep forgetting!"
Jin Yichen smiled and obediently called out, "Mom!"
That one word brought an immediate smile to Mrs. Leng’s face as she responded, "Ah, good!"
Glancing at the closed hospital room door, Mrs. Leng asked curiously, "Sisi, where is Mochen? Didn’t he return to the country today?"
She assumed Jin Jiachao was in the room alone chatting with the old man.
Li Si pointed toward the adjacent room, "He’s over there chatting with Mr. Jin. Grandpa is still asleep!"
Mrs. Leng nodded and warmly offered, "By the way, have you eaten? I brought soup from home, along with some dishes. Grandpa won’t be able to finish them anyway!"
Looking at her son-in-law and future daughter-in-law, she couldn’t help but feel content.
"Mom, I’m not hungry! Let’s see if Mochen wants some later."
"Me too!" Jin Yichen still felt a bit tense around his future mother-in-law.
Perhaps it had something to do with the situation regarding Yin Xuan.
"Come here, Buding, let Grandma hold you!" Mrs. Leng reached out and took Buding from Li Si. "When Grandpa sees this little one, half his illness will disappear."
Her gaze shifted briefly toward Jin Yichen, and she mused happily to herself that in a few years, when both her daughter and son-in-law had children, she would have both grandchildren and granddaughters to pamper.
