Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!-Chapter 38: Grandpa Isn’t Necessarily Grandpa
The yard of the wind power plant isn’t very large; it’s impossible for all the cars to enter the yard.
As night fell, most people chose to lock their car doors and stay in their cars.
If problems arise, they can flee anytime.
Some people, feeling bold, found the car space too cramped, and took warm clothing to stay in the buildings within the wind power plant.
Naturally, Bai Xiqin’s family didn’t leave the bus; they just found a quiet place to park.
Bai Xiqin roughly estimated the number of survivors, about five hundred people.
S City is a medium-sized city; the number of survivors far exceeds this, it should have been more.
Some survivors are content with the status quo, always feeling that their own home is the safest.
Some survivors wanted to follow the main group and chose to give up this chance because the leader this time only drove a few police cars.
Compared to police cars, armored vehicles are more reassuring.
Many people set out with Captain Zhu, but more stayed in S City.
"Sister, look over there, more cars are coming!"
Bai Yifan was leaning against the car window, looking out.
Several cars were running at full speed, roaring towards their direction, as if something was chasing them.
From afar, he could vaguely see the car grilles had deformed, as if they’d hit something heavy.
"There must have been a change in S City."
Bai Xiqin’s face was slightly grim.
What kind of powerful High Rank Zombie could control so many zombies?
Bai Anhai opened the bus window, and those cars stopped nearby.
"Brothers, what’s happened to you?"
Bai Anhai shouted towards the people in the cars.
A young man got out of the car, while another sat in the driver’s seat, his face expressionless, seemingly terrified.
They looked as if they were scared to death.
"The zombies in S City are increasing, crashing through doors and biting people everywhere..."
"It’s terrifying! So many people were eaten!"
"Yesterday the streets were empty, but today the number of zombies is horrifying!"
...
The people in the cars told the situation in S City, their faces pale, as if they’ve been frightened.
The news spread quickly, and most people were somewhat relieved, thankful they’d left early; otherwise, they’d be dead.
Bai Xiqin silently observed the cars, the grilles slightly deformed from collisions, the blood on them not only the dark red typical of zombies but also... bright red blood.
This showed that to escape, they had not only hit zombies but also people.
Bai Xiqin said nothing.
In the apocalypse, such scenes are common.
Bai Xiqin looked towards the direction of S City, her doubts growing.
If last night’s howls represented expulsion, then why did the massacre commence this afternoon?
What’s the intelligence level of the High Rank Zombie?
Did it expel humans in advance, giving them a chance, before hunting the "stubborn" ones who didn’t leave?
What’s its purpose?
To claim territory?
Bai Xiqin thought through it.
She’d survived for three years in the apocalypse, the highest-ranked zombie she’d seen was a Third Rank Zombie.
A Third Rank Zombie could command tens of thousands of ordinary zombies, yet its attacks and defenses stemmed purely from instinct.
It didn’t show high intelligence; all its strength derived from controlling low-level zombies and its superpower.
So, what level had the zombies in S City reached?
"Xiao Niu?"
Leng Yebai waved his long fingers before Bai Xiqin, softly calling out to her dazed look.
"Ah? What’s up?"
Bai Xiqin snapped back to her senses, looking up at Leng Yebai.
"Did you hear a strange sound in the sky?"
Leng Yebai looked out the window, except for the ones who just escaped describing the horrors of S City, nothing else.
Bai Xiqin stood at the window, side by side with Leng Yebai.
The sky was pitch black, without a star, some people below still chattering about S City’s scenes.
Within the noisy sounds, some baby crying could be heard.
Bai Xiqin frowned slightly, scanning the area, but saw no one holding a baby.
"Where’s the crying baby coming from?" Bai Xiqin frowned.
"Baby? What baby?"
Bai Zhengxuan’s eyes lit up, suddenly standing behind Bai Xiqin, "Granddaughter, are you having a baby?"
This was truly a joyous event!
Never thought this old man would live to see a great-grandchild born!
And from his beloved granddaughter no less!
If it’s a great-granddaughter, she’d be even cuter!
"Pregnant?" Bai Anhai’s eyes widened, his lips involuntarily curling up, though he said, "How careless, since it’s happened, give birth! Who cares who the father is, grandpa’s here to provide!"
Wang Yiyun glared at Bai Anhai, "What nonsense! No matter whose child, the surname’s Bai!"
A granny isn’t always a true granny, but a grandma is always a true grandma!
Bai Xiqin’s lips twitched violently, while the usually composed Leng Yebai’s face also twitched.
"Dad, Mom, you’re mistaken, I said I heard a baby’s crying!" Bai Xiqin tried to keep her composure.
"Oh, sis, no need to be afraid!" Bai Yifan stood firmly, "Even if you’re not married, you can still have a baby, I’ve hidden some formula, I’ll share with my niece!"
"Get lost!"
Bai Xiqin glared at the cheeky Bai Yifan.
"Seriously not?"
Bai Zhengxuan was slightly disappointed, looking at Leng Yebai with some helplessness and doubt.
Are you... incapable?
Leng Yebai: ...
"Not right!"
Bai Xiqin suddenly thought of something, ran to the driver’s seat, and turned on the bus’s high beams.
The light instantly illuminated the front as bright as day.
"Ah!"
A piercing woman’s scream suddenly echoed.
Instinctively looking in that direction, an enlarged version of an eagle was carrying a middle-aged woman into the sky.
The creature resembling an eagle had a hard horn on top of its head, and its sounds seemed like a crying child.
"A Gu Diao? Isn’t this the man-eating monster from the Classic of Mountains and Seas?" Bai Zhengxuan exclaimed.
The Gu Diao carried the middle-aged woman into the sky; its silhouette soon vanished in the pitch-black night.
The woman’s piercing screams also faded away.
The people below, still in shock, hurriedly scrambled into their cars, with no time left to chat!
The baby’s crying drew closer.
The enlarged eagle-like monster now targeted the cars.
Its sharp claws clashed against the window, the sound of shattered glass resounded.
"Ah! Don’t come over!"
The people inside the car looked in terror at the monster outside.
The Bai Family exchanged a glance and got off the car together.
The Gu Diao was attacking indiscriminately, if they didn’t leave, the car would be destroyed.
Leng Yebai raised his hand, a multitude of purple electric lights spreading towards a Gu Diao.
Bam!
The monster, suddenly attacked, fell to the ground with a thud.
The people inside the car didn’t have the time to think, they drove off quickly.
However, before they could drive a few meters, another monster’s sharp claws tightly gripped his arm, and in the next moment, he was airborne.
