Rebirth: After Becoming the Villainess-Chapter 101: Even Family Must Keep Clear Accounts
「Ling’an Square, East Street.」
Song Lianhe sat in a teahouse, finally eating her Fuling Cake with a look of pure satisfaction.
Just then, the door was pushed open. The Shadow Guard strode in, leaned toward the man sitting across from her, and whispered a few words in his ear. "...Xuan Mei has gone over."
"Mm."
Zhou Cangyan’s expression remained unchanged.
Song Lianhe, now on her second piece, glanced their way. "Why aren’t you eating?"
"Oh, our master isn’t fond of sweet... sweets..."
The Shadow Guard’s eyes went wide as he stared, watching his master pick up a piece of Fuling Cake and bring it to his lips.
Song Lianhe smiled and said, "This Fuling Cake isn’t like regular sweets. It helps with digestion and can even boost a person’s immunity! Oh, right, ’immunity’ just means it helps you avoid getting sick and keeps your body strong."
As she spoke, she picked up another piece and held it out to him. "Have another."
Glancing at the treat held out before him, Zhou Cangyan paused for only a moment before raising his hand to take it.
Song Lianhe’s smile grew wider. Then, as if remembering something, she said to the Shadow Guard, "It’s about time for Master Shen and the others to have a follow-up check. If it’s inconvenient for them to come to my clinic, I can make a house call! It’s just that the consultation fee... would have to be doubled."
"Hold on, if I’m not mistaken, this clinic wouldn’t even exist without our master, would it?"
"Exactly. That’s why we, as a family, have to keep our accounts clear. Otherwise, we’d be breaking the house rules, right?"
The Shadow Guard: "..."
After a moment of contemplation, Zhou Cangyan looked up at her. "Let them go to the clinic for the follow-up."
"Master!"
’Shen Fu and the others have extremely sensitive identities! They’re already being watched, and now they’re supposed to just swagger into the clinic for treatment... How unbelievably brazen is that?!’
"Sounds good. I’ll have Manager Yan clear the schedule for tomorrow morning. I’ll wait for them at the clinic."
"Alright."
After they left the teahouse, the number of pedestrians on the street began to dwindle. Song Lianhe patted her full belly. "I wonder if it’s because I’ve been eating too much lately... why do I feel like I’ve put on weight?"
The comment was offhand, but the gazes of the two men beside her instantly, and in unison, fell upon her stomach.
The Shadow Guard broke into a knowing, doting smile, occasionally glancing teasingly at his master.
’The Luo Family has an heir!!’
Zhou Cangyan, however, wore an expression that was somewhat hesitant and... complex.
"Hey, what are those looks for? Don’t tell me... I really am getting fat?"
Song Lianhe was the classic type: she could say she was fat and ugly, but if anyone else did, they’d have a fight on their hands!
"Not at all, not at all! How could Second Miss Song be getting fat?" the Shadow Guard said with a placating look.
Song Lianhe then turned to look at Zhou Cangyan, seemingly seeking his validation.
"Master? Second Miss Song is asking you a question~"
Song Lianhe blinked and leaned in closer. "Prince, you tell me!"
Zhou Cangyan glanced at her belly before saying slowly, "...You’re not fat."
"Really? I knew it! Of course I’m not getting fat~"
Song Lianhe preened, pleased with herself once more.
The Shadow Guard let out a breath of relief. ’Good, the master knew the right answer.’
’It was a good thing Second Miss Song had such a strong constitution. She ate well and slept soundly, with no signs of morning sickness, so she hadn’t suspected a thing. Still, this couldn’t be kept secret for long. Counting the days, she’d start to show in another two months at most...’
The Shadow Guard secretly resolved to write a letter to the family patriarch as soon as he returned that night!
Before they knew it, Zhou Cangyan had walked Song Lianhe all the way to the General Mansion.
Song Lianhe turned to face him, a bright smile playing on her lips. "Thank you for tonight, Prince." She then deliberately lowered her voice, leaning so close to his ear that her body nearly touched his. Her unique fragrance, a subtle blend of herbs and perfume, enveloped him.
"For everything, all of it... thank you."
’So what if he’s the villain?’
’He had never harmed her. In fact, he’d saved her several times. As far as she was concerned, that made him a genuinely good person!’
’You could even say her own father had never treated her this well!’
Zhou Cangyan lowered his gaze and said slowly, "You are, after all, supposed to be earning silver for me."
"I know, I know! You can rest easy, Prince. I’ll be sure to make us fabulously wealthy! You’ll be the richest man in the world, and I’ll be the richest woman. We’ll conquer the business world together!"
In her moment of triumph, she casually slung an arm over Zhou Cangyan’s shoulder. "See? Earning silver is so much more fun! It’s way more interesting than some old throne..."
The words were barely out of her mouth when she froze.
’Oh, this mouth of mine!’
Sensing the air beside her turn frigid, she immediately dropped her arm, her expression frantic. "P-Prince, I was just talking nonsense, complete nonsense..."
Zhou Cangyan stared at her, a strange smile creeping across his cold features. "Second Miss Song seems... to know me very well."
’This proves it. That day, in the ruined hut on the mountain...’
’Was it really just an accident?’
