Rebirth: A Second chance at life-Chapter 80
Chapter 80: 80
Aurora sat deep in thought, her fingers lightly tapping against the armrest of the couch.
She had taken a huge risk today—alerting her squad without being completely sure how they would react seeing her alive.
Luna knew that these people loved her and what must have gone through them when they saw her dead.
Even if she loved them, she had once wanted to run free from the shackles of the underworld or the life she led.
It was no place for family and love. Death and betrayal were always lurking around the corner.
Now, even though she was in a different body and not directly linked to the underworld, she knew better than to fall into the illusion of safety.
She needed power and money, and that could only come if she continued the legacy of Luna.
She had seen how the weak Aurora was tortured, humiliated, and crushed like a mere insect.
No one had spared her, not family, not so-called friends, no one. The pain and loneliness that Aurora suffered were now branded into her soul.
She would never allow herself to fall to that level again.
She must uncover the person who had the audacity to betray her and make them experience the taste of hell as punishment for their actions."
Well... let’s see, she thought as she stood up, brushing the dust off her clothes with a careless flick.
"Let’s go, Bishop," Aurora said, her voice cool and firm. "It’s time for Jenny’s medicine.
And I still need to unearth how Lily is connected to the Queen’s Group... and more importantly, why she suddenly wants to get rid of Aurora now."
Queen’s Group was an ancient legacy, its wealth and influence passed down through generations, tracing back to a founder who was said to be a duke under Estria’s 15th king.
The last chairperson had died years ago, and now the group was ruled by his second daughter.
Queen’s was one of the largest companies in Estria, always ranking among the top five.
Before that, it had held the number one position for nearly twenty years, but over time, it had gradually started to decline.
Although it was no longer as dominant, its legacy still carried immense weight.
The Martin family, who controlled Queen’s, was one of the six greatest families in the capital city of Estria, ranking third after the Harper and Morgan families, followed by the Stanley, Woods, and Cox families.
So why and how was Lily connected to them? Were they the ones backing her? Even so, if the greatest family was connected to Lily, why was the Smith family still stuck at the bottom?
It was the thought that lingered in Aurora’s mind, gnawing at her with every passing second.
Before leaving, she turned her sharp gaze towards Jack, who immediately stood at attention.
"Jack, bring back Lizzie," she ordered, her voice leaving no room for argument. "And you know what to do after that."
Jack’s expression shifted from excitement to deadly seriousness as he nodded firmly.
"Understood, Boss!" he barked, his chest puffed out with pride.
Aurora and Bishop made their way out, boarding the black SUV parked discreetly outside the villa.
Just as Bishop was about to start the engine, a figure darted into the driveway, waving frantically.
"What’s up?" Aurora asked calmly, stepping out of the car and approaching the elderly man in a white lab coat.
He was Maxwell Martin, one of the senior researchers in the lab.
The man stood trembling, his wrinkled hands clutching a thick folder to his chest.
"Boss..." he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion.
Tears shimmered in his aged eyes, and he blinked rapidly, trying to steady himself.
Seeing Luna—his boss—standing in front of him was like a ray of sunlight piercing through months of darkness.
He, like the others, had heard the rumors... that their queen had fallen. He had refused to believe it at first.
But as the months dragged on and Luna never returned, even his faith had begun to waver.
Now, seeing her standing there in the flesh...
It was like being pulled out of a nightmare.
"Boss, it’s good to see you back," he said, sniffing and wiping his eyes hastily with the back of his hand.
"But—" he paused, struggling to find the right words, "we’ve been running into a problem with the medicine we were working on from the Jade Jeevak plant."
Aurora narrowed her eyes, her attention sharpening.
The Jade Jeevak project was important—crucial even. It was a rare herb found only in a few regions of South Asia, known for its potent neurogenic properties.
They had managed to extract a viable strain once, but the real problem lay in stabilizing it.
"We successfully extracted the strain," the old man continued, clutching the folder tighter, "but... when we infused it with the other compositions needed for the final medicine, it turned toxic. Every single time."
Aurora’s mind whirred with calculations.
A mutation in the compound?
An unstable bonding under certain chemical interactions?
Possibilities lined up swiftly in her head, flashing across her memory like pages flipping in a book.
"Let’s go," she said simply.
She turned to Bishop and gave a brief nod. freewebnσvel.cѳm
"Wait for me. I’ll be back in a few minutes."
Bishop gave a grunt of acknowledgment and leaned back against the car, arms crossed.
Aurora followed the old scientist back into the villa, her boots clicking sharply against the stone floor.
As they entered the lab, Jack, who had been hovering near the entrance like an abandoned puppy, spotted her immediately.
"BOSSSSS!! HUAHHHH!!" Jack wailed dramatically, tears almost spurting from his eyes.
"I knew it! I knew you wouldn’t leave me!"
He sprinted toward her with wide-open arms, aiming for a dramatic, tearful embrace.
Aurora didn’t even spare him a glance.
She casually sidestepped him without breaking her stride.
Jack, mid-air, missed and landed in an awkward heap on the cold floor.
A pitiful groan escaped him as he clutched his bruised knees.
Bishop, standing nearby, shot him a disgusted look and scoffed under his breath.
"Fool," he muttered, shaking his head.
Jack sat up, sniffling, looking heartbroken.
He turned his wide, misty puppy eyes toward Aurora, silently begging for her attention.
Aurora ignored him entirely and stepped further into the lab.
