Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack-Chapter 1308 - 1288: Resisting Spiritual Power?
"He has a spy around him," Yan said calmly. "We were ambushed as soon as we arrived, and after that, the reception was late."
Yann Yao’s expression was notably unpleasant. "Damn it, these people are really enough!"
"Do you know who it is?" Luo Qianqian raised an eyebrow as she heard him, for it was quite normal that she didn’t understand the inner workings of Southern Li, as Huangfu Yihui had never mentioned such things to them.
"I have a guess, but that doesn’t mean I can accept these things." Yann Yao snorted, took out a Jade Pendant, and threw it to Luo Qianqian. "Stay in touch. I’ll go contact the other brothers first. Where are you staying?"
"Eight Directions Inn."
"Okay, I’ll come find you later." Yann Yao turned and left without the slightest hesitation, leaving Luo Qianqian and Yan a bit dumbfounded.
"What’s going on?" Luo Qianqian widened her eyes.
Although it was difficult to see through, it was evident that even without involving the throne, there were still factions. The harem has never been a peaceful place, and that’s absolutely true.
"Did you look in the room just now?" Huangfu Yihui raised an eyebrow at Luo Qianqian, starting to identify directions from the stars in the sky.
"Yes, although it was brief, I’m certain Huangfu Yihui is not there, no sign of life." Luo Qianqian nodded vigorously.
Frowning tightly, she also looked at the starry sky. Although she trusted Yan very much, the room Anton visited after leaving was noticeably different, though she couldn’t pinpoint how. For a moment, she didn’t know whether to speak out.
"This way." Yan frowned, looking at their surroundings, which seemed like a back garden with ponds. Where on earth did they walk to? But earlier, there was no sign of entering a courtyard!
"Yan, could he be dead?" Luo Qianqian felt a bit uneasy. The friend she had parted from in the afternoon had vanished without a trace, without a single hint of where he went.
"No, if he were dead, your Jade Token would have shattered directly." Yan, calm as ever, looked at Luo Qianqian with a slight frown. "However, you should know that I’ve left a mark on you all that only I can find. His scent lingers in that room."
Yan frowned deeply, his face full of disbelief.
Even if Luo Qianqian’s scent disappeared, he could detect it. Yet, Huangfu Yihui’s scent remained in the room, but he couldn’t locate anyone? This just doesn’t align with what they know!
"I marked you with a Sachet to differentiate your scent, so now this scent belongs to Huangfu Yihui alone!" Yan affirmed, narrowing his eyes. "I’m not sure how he evaded spiritual power detection, but I’m sure he is in that room."
Normally, spiritual power is the least likely to deceive, even if there is a Formation inside, there’s no reason to evade its detection, yet both Luo Qianqian and Yann Yao, one with spiritual power, the other searching, found nothing, leaving him in great doubt whether there’s an error on his part.
Nevertheless, he remained incredulous.
"This is strange; spiritual power shouldn’t make mistakes, right?" Luo Qianqian, seeking confirmation, glanced at Yan, only to find him deeply frowning.
"What is it? Is there a situation that can block spiritual power detection?" Luo Qianqian quickly walked over, grabbing Yan’s arm.
Yan nodded, "There is." Yet, his expression was unpleasant, evidently troubled by something unspeakable.
Such a thing indeed exists, but how could Southern Li possess such a thing? That shouldn’t be!
Southern Li shouldn’t have something like this!
Yet, besides this possibility, he could think of no other reason.
"If that’s the case, Southern Li is in for chaos." Yan’s voice carried a sense of deep lament, subtly trembling.
There must be something wrong!
Luo Qianqian was sure of it but dared not ask further.
She always felt that Yan had a reason for what he didn’t say, likely for her own good.
However, after a moment of silence, Yan spoke, "Don’t use spiritual power indiscriminately in Southern Li."
If his conjecture was right, this was the same reason Yann Yao was discovered earlier.
"Okay." Luo Qianqian readily agreed and did not press further. The three of them had their secrets, but they were still good friends, weren’t they? Friends should trust each other.
Yan glanced at Luo Qianqian, slightly startled by her lack of questioning, then laughed, patting her shoulder. "Don’t worry, he’ll be fine."
If his guess was correct, it should be his talent being recognized that brought about this treatment.
Yet, as far as he knew, among the princes of the Southern Li Royal Family, Yann Yao was the leader, with Huangfu Yihui following him. Now, it seemed not the case.
Yann Yao chased a thousand miles out of concern for Huangfu Yihui? And the worry in his eyes, undisguised, was genuine concern.
"Tomorrow, we should find out why." Yan let out a deep breath, and for some reason, Luo Qianqian noticed a hint of fatigue on his face.
Despite the days of travel, even on the Flying Chicken, through meals on the go, Yan never once let his image show the tiniest bit of inelegance; yet now, weariness showed on his face.
Luo Qianqian was silent for a moment, then quietly followed Yan, head bowed, not knowing how to console him.
Noticing Luo Qianqian’s mood, Yan’s mood lifted a bit.
This little girl still had quite a conscience.
Their pace quickened back to the inn, and at the inn entrance, Luo Qianqian’s face darkened.
Luckily they made it back! Was someone trying to make a move on her? And to try her first? What a joke!
Watching the shadow lurking outside the window, the two simultaneously leaped onto the roof, silently observing the person dressed in black facing Luo Qianqian’s room.
He reached out, poked a hole in the paper windowpane, then raised an object resembling a larger, thicker cigarette, and blew two puffs toward the room inside.
Then he waited silently at the window. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Hey, need a hand?" Luo Qianqian walked up gently, patting the shoulder of the black-clothed person, eyes curved, hidden under a face veil, concealing her expression.
"Scram," uttered the black-clothed one bluntly, releasing a dagger aimed directly at Luo Qianqian.
Luo Qianqian calmly stood unmoved, as if oblivious to it.
The black-clothed one looked away, eyes cold, as if treating her as a dead person.
But the sound of a blade piercing the flesh never came, and Luo Qianqian stood there, eyes still gleaming.
And that dagger was already captured by Yan and returned into the black-clad person’s body.
