Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack-Chapter 1306 - 1286: Pucheng City
In the direction where many guards are rushing, is Pucheng, the future fiefdom for Prince Ruii. However, it doesn’t belong to him yet; he is merely a guest, not the owner.
Upon entering the city, Luo Qianqian and her group calmly bid farewell to Huangfu Yihui and checked into the largest inn, while Huangfu Yihui was escorted to, no, invited to the City Lord’s Mansion.
"I thought Southern Li would be a bit cleaner. Turns out he was almost harmed too, huh? Yan, quickly confess, do you also have a bunch of siblings who look down on you? Waiting to kill you?" Luo Qianqian hastily whispered to Yan as her Second Uncle went to order food.
"..." Are you overthinking this? Such things aren’t like cabbages, found everywhere and anywhere. If everyone around was like this, the odds would be enough to win the lottery.
Tang Tianyi was because of the situation with illegitimate children, but Luo Qianqian seems to have forgotten him; Haan Yun was hunted, leading to their encounter, Huangfu Yihui’s situation is still unclear, but likely not as terrifying as Luo Qianqian’s imagination.
"I’m an only child." Yan stated while observing Luo Qianqian’s face, seriously emphasizing: "My father only has my mother, and my mother only gave birth to me."
Luo Qianqian smiled awkwardly, not to blame her for gossiping, right? It’s just that recent incidents felt scripted.
First, Hua Nianyi’s scheming almost endangered her; if not for Yan’s presence, she probably would’ve slept for a thousand days, waking up to nothing, helplessly watching what she wanted to protect shatter... Then, Huangfu Yihui was suddenly ambushed after some Flying Chicken incident, few knew the involved parties, discerning friend from foe was impossible. However, Luo Qianqian was certain Huangfu Yihui is a good person. After spending so much time together, if she couldn’t perceive this, how could they become friends?
Perhaps calling him a good person is too vague, but Huangfu Yihui is genuinely sincere as a friend.
"Second Uncle, why don’t we skip going to the Southern Li Imperial City? Let’s check out a city with unique features? After all, we’re not opening a shop, just trading back and forth." Luo Qianqian glanced at Luo Xihan, looking conflicted. If they did open a shop, they certainly couldn’t stay, meaning Huangfu Yihui’s people would manage it, possibly inciting attacks against him.
"Up to you, we’re unfamiliar here, business pales in importance compared to your safety." Luo Xihan nodded, smiled, turning to the window, inspecting Pucheng’s scenery, maybe not distinctly southern hence not overly hot. The air felt vastly different from Nine Heavens Pavilion Mountain; a warmth lingered in the atmosphere.
"Haha, Second Uncle is the best, I’ll grill some meat for you." Luo Qianqian squinted slightly, skillfully pulling out a frying pan.
Yan ruthlessly critiqued her cooking skill immediately: "Forget it, don’t burn it and make outsiders think there’s a fire."
Luo Yanhai agreed, nodding, his face full of agreement.
In other matters, he sided with his only sister, Luo Qianqian, but in cooking, he steadfastly refused to taste her creations unless there was no other option.
Luo Shufan and He Wenyu’s descriptions were too terrifying, robbing him of courage to try.
"Fine..." Luo Qianqian pursed her lips, slightly unwilling, but understanding her culinary capabilities. She glanced at the idle Lin Jiayou: "Brother Jiayou, time to cook, stop daydreaming, Brother Zhuzi, grill the meat! Big Brother, hurry and stir-fry, I’m fed up with store-bought stuff, I have some ingredients here, Second Uncle, could you buy some vegetables downstairs? I’m out of them."
Luo Xihan smiled and nodded, as long as Luo Qianqian wasn’t cooking, anything was negotiable.
He sought to avoid the infamous near-fire levels of cooking clumsiness.
Luo Qianqian sighed upon observing everyone’s reactions; though expected, a slight dissatisfaction remained.
Indeed, geniuses suffer heavens’ jealousy, excelling in some, lacking in others.
Despite same pan, time, temperature, and seasoning, her dishes went awry, whereas others created delicacies. Nothing to say, fated by heaven, some just aren’t suited.
"Speaking of which, Qianqian, don’t we need many things? Also a container for combustibles..." Luo Yanhai shrugged after a moment, suggesting to Luo Qianqian: "I’ll go search for useful stuff to buy, there are snacks, eat those if hungry."
They were accustomed to simple meals under the sky. Even the once punctual Luo Xihan adapted, yet indulgently worried about Luo Qianqian, afraid of her going hungry.
"No worries, relax, ever seen me starve?" Luo Qianqian nodded confidently to everyone, pulling out a large bag of snacks onto the table.
Then, her expression turned strange as she retrieved a Jade Pendant, Huangfu Yihui’s voice emanating, impossible for others to intercept the soul’s pulses or understand contents.
Luo Qianqian glanced at Yan filled with oddity, Yan’s expression also held apparent unease.
"Sneak in around midnight, I’m confined in the courtyard. If I’m correct, they’ll target you."
"Should we go?" Luo Qianqian asked Yan, pouting: "Told you it wasn’t good."
Yan nodded in agreement, eyeing Luo Qianqian’s busy family members, frowning: "Let’s go, covert surveillance hasn’t been scarce." Nodding towards outside with a cold expression.
Luo Qianqian paused, then gravely nodded.
Previously, she sensed anomalies, reluctant to disclose while Second Uncle’s group was present, but with Huangfu Yihui’s message, ignoring seemed unjust towards their time together.
She couldn’t let Second Uncle and Big Brother suffer with her, viewing comprehensively, checking it was imperative.
After brief hesitation, she signaled a shush to the nearby little boy.
The little boy nodded, internally rolling his eyes, what and how to say?
Every room was individual, post-dinner, Luo Qianqian retreated to hers, reminding her family to cultivate, avoid slacking.
Luo Xihan reluctantly nodded, powerless to oppose, with Luo Shiqi symbolizing Nine Heavens Pavilion.
Locking the room post-entry, Luo Qianqian opened the window, soon, Yan slipped in effortlessly from the window.
"I scouted the City Lord’s Mansion, he’s likely in the east courtyard, heavily guarded with frequent patrols." Yan said, sketching a rough map with tea water on the table, circling the right-side courtyard.
Luo Qianqian nodded lightly: "Have any sleep aids? Let’s put some in their rooms later."
Yan paused, then shook his head: "Better not, during my return, I found nearby residences, even next door were inhabited by those with cultivation."
Luo Qianqian paused, though Second Uncle’s group had modest cultivation levels, they could likely protect themselves. She contemplated before nodding slowly.
Watching Night God, the overseeing feeling faded, the pair subtly exited through the window.
In dark attire they merged into the dense night.
