Rebirth 1983: Building My Business Empire-Chapter 114 - 108 Master Qian and His Grandchildren
Chapter 114: Chapter 108 Master Qian and His Grandchildren
After falling ill twice in succession, Lu Jiaxin returned to the Forty-nine City and no longer found medicine bitter. Not only that, but she also started going for walks and practicing yoga, hoping that a dual approach would speed up her recovery.
By the weekend, Lu Jiaguang’s family of six had all come over. Lu Ping, feeling somewhat embarrassed to be thanking someone a half-head shorter than himself, said to Lu Jiaxin, “Little aunt, I really like the clothes you bought for me.”
The sportswear and sneakers bought for Lu Ping and Lu An, the two brothers, weren’t expensive but very much to their liking.
Lu Jiaxin replied with a smile, “I’m glad you like them.”
The younger generation didn’t get involved with preparing lunch, which was made by Lu Jiaguang and his wife, along with Ma Lili. The three of them in the kitchen were smiling upon hearing the laughter coming from the courtyard.
...
Wang Xiaojie said to Lu Jiaguang, “Jiaguang, Jiaxin’s place is spacious, and all the kids like her. In the future, let them finish their homework on Saturday, and then they can come over to play on Sunday.”
Ma Lili was also eager for Lu An and the others to come over, “Big brother, these past few days, Qiangqiang and Xiao Feng have been frequently asking when you’re coming over. If there’s nothing on Sunday, let them come over; it makes the kids happy and the house lively.”
What she didn’t say out loud was that when the kids played together, even a bit of roughhousing made them closer. Given the state of her relationship with her elder sister, she hoped her two kids could maintain a good relationship with their cousins so they would have support as they grew up and encountered difficulties.
Lu Jiaguang didn’t agree, saying, “The doctor has ordered that Jiaxin needs to recuperate quietly, and she must rest well to recover quickly. Let’s wait for her to fully regain her strength before having the kids come over on Sundays.”
Ma Lili, still beaming, said, “Big brother, Jiaxin loves the children the most, and would be delighted if you brought them over on the weekends!”
Lu Jiaguang still refused. However, when Ma Lili saw Lu Jiaxin later, she still brought up the subject.
Of course, Lu Jiaxin had no objections. It wouldn’t be okay if it was noisy every day, but just one day on Sunday was fine; she needed to relax too: “Next Sunday looks sunny. I’ll take them to the park.”
It was mainly because Lu An and Lu Zhenzhen were older; they didn’t need her supervision and could even take care of Xiao Feng and Qiangqiang. If they had all been around four or five years old, she definitely wouldn’t have agreed.
Lu Zhenzhen said eagerly, “Little aunt, I want to fly kites in the park.”
“Alright, I’ll buy one for each of you then, and we’ll see who can fly theirs the best…”
Lu Zhenzhen clapped her hands in joy and cheered, “Little aunt is the best. I can go fly kites in the park next week.”
The meal was lavish, and each child had a bottle of soda—everyone ate joyfully. Qiangqiang even overate and complained of a tummy ache, which prompted Ma Lili to scold him while rubbing his belly.
After the meal, the two sisters-in-law cleaned up together. While they were in the kitchen, Wang Xiaojie asked, “Lili, did you find a house? I have a friend whose relative is planning to sell a house by Shichahai.”
Both husband and wife were concerned and actively gathering information on Lu Jiajie’s behalf.
Ma Lili shared her plans, “Big sister, I want to buy a house here, there are schools nearby and it’ll be easier to look after each other with Jiaxin.”
Wang Xiaojie was somewhat surprised, “The single-family houses here start at at least seven or eight thousand, way above your budget.”
Ma Lili said softly, “Including the amount you lent me, I have seven thousand on hand, and Jiaxin said if it’s not enough, she could lend us the difference.”
Wang Xiaojie thought this girl was too generous with her money, but considering her ability to earn, she didn’t feel the need to dissuade her.
Lu Hongjun was looking for Lu Jiaguang about something and had called him three times without success. When he finally got through in the evening and found out they had spent the day at Lu Jiaxin’s, he was so angry he was at a loss for words.
Lu Jiaguang asked, “Third Uncle, is there something wrong?”
Lu Hongjun had already lost the mood to discuss matters anymore, “Come to my office tomorrow morning; it’s very important.”
After hanging up the phone, Lu Hongjun felt a heavy burden in his heart, as if there was a stone pressing down on him.
Two days later, Ma Lili tentatively said, “Xinxin, your dad’s sick. Don’t you want to go see him?”
“Is it serious?” Lu Jiaxin asked.
If he was on his deathbed, she would make a trip to the hospital. But Lu Hongjun wasn’t dying—just suffering from a bout of gastroenteritis, and for that, she was not eager to go.
Lu Jiaxin said with an expressionless face, “He doesn’t care about whether I live or die, so I’ll act as if I don’t have a father. Fifth Sister-in-law, don’t mention him in front of me again.”
Ma Lili didn’t speak, but her frown deepened. Regardless of everything, he was still her biological father, and it seemed too much not to visit him when he was sick in the hospital.
Seeing her expression, Lu Jiaxin knew what she was thinking. Just as she was about to speak, someone knocked on the door from outside.
Ma Lili opened the door and saw an old man with a limp accompanied by a young teen. She asked with an unexpected look, “Who are you looking for?”
“My name is Qian San, and this is my granddaughter Xiaoxiao. We’re here to find Lu Jiaxin,” he replied.
Ma Lili looked at the crew-cut Qian Xiaoxiao—what kind of girl would have her hair cut so short, she didn’t seem like she was from a good family. Not daring to let the two inside, she shouted loudly, “Jiaxin, there’s someone called Qian San looking for you. Do you know him?”
Upon hearing this, Lu Jiaxin hurried over to welcome the grandfather and granddaughter. If they hadn’t introduced themselves, one might mistake them for beggars at first glance! Their clothes were so patched, the original colors were indiscernible, and their hair was unkempt.
As soon as Qian San entered the yard, he yelled in a loud voice, “Miss, I’m hungry. Do you have anything to eat here?”
Lu Jiaxin politely said, “The rice is cooked, but the dishes are still being fried. Master Qian, would you like to take a bath first? It’d be just in time for dinner when you’re done.”
Master Qian didn’t refuse but indicated that neither he nor his granddaughter had a change of clothes.
Lu Jiaxin estimated their height and said with a smile, “We have clothes suitable for you here, but I don’t know if you’re willing to wear our old clothes.”
Lu Jiajie was one hundred and seventy-nine centimeters tall, about the same height as Master Qian, while Qian Xiaoxiao was a little taller than her. However, her current clothes were loose fitting, and she could wear them too.
Master Qian waved his hands and said, “Wandering folk like us don’t have many demands when we’re on the road; having something to eat and wear is enough. Miss, where can I wash up?”
Hearing that, Ma Lili’s eyebrows furrowed even more tightly.
Lu Jiaxin pointed to the corner bathroom, “You can wash there. Just wait a moment, Master Qian, I’ll go get some clothes and towels for you.”
Turning around, she asked Ma Lili to fetch a set of Lu Jiajie’s clothes.
Ma Lili asked in a low voice, “Jiaxin, who are these people? Don’t bring just anyone into the house.”
Lu Jiaxin said with a smile, “Fifth Sister-in-law, don’t judge a book by its cover. Master Qian is skilled in martial arts, and his granddaughter is trained as well. I plan to learn martial arts from them—it’s good for self-defense and will help strengthen my body.”

“Who introduced you to them?”
“Brother Gu introduced them. He’s an old friend of his master from many years ago. Fifth Sister-in-law, Master Qian is just a bit casual, but he’s a person of good character.”
