Reawakening: Primordial Dragon with Limitless Mana-Chapter 32: Coward(1)
Chapter 32: Coward(1)
"Hades," a voice called from behind.
He turned around and saw who it was.
"Professor Haylie," he said. The History Professor stood there, holding a stack of books.
Her cheeks were slightly red as she informed him, "The Headmaster is looking for you."
Hades gave a small nod, watching her hurry away.
’That was... odd,’ he thought as he put on his shirt and left the gym.
He wasn’t surprised by the Headmaster’s summons.
After all, just yesterday, he had saved one of the most important figures on the human side.
Since morning, he had been hearing whispers. People who once spat in his direction were now avoiding eye contact. And those who had stayed neutral were now praising him in quiet voices. novelbuddy-cσ๓
Not that he cared then—nor does he now.
He had done it for himself. He needed training and a favor from the academy.
And he got both.
*Knock*
"Come in," a voice responded.
He stepped into the office.
"Good evening, sir," he greeted with a light bow.
"Hades... please, take a seat," the Headmaster said with a wide smile.
When everyone turned their backs on Hades, calling him reckless and selfish, only Rinne and the Headmaster stood by him. The Headmaster even tried to save him from punishment, though in the end, the Pope made the final decision.
"I can finally breathe easy now that you’ve earned back your place at the academy," the Headmaster said. "Now I’ll have something to say when I see Minister Ross again." A cold glint flashed in his eyes, and Hades could only smile awkwardly.
The Headmaster clearly still held a grudge against that Minister.
"How’s Father Christopher now, sir?" Hades asked, changing the subject.
The Headmaster nodded. "He’s doing well. He sent his thanks and even offered a reward for saving him."
He then placed a pouch on the table. "This is Ruby. Ten pieces. Each one is worth five thousand gold coins."
Hades raised a brow. "Sir... isn’t that a bit much?" Normally, even fighting a few drakes would only earn him a thousand at best.
The Headmaster shook his head. "It’s not about the fight—it’s about who you saved. So don’t hesitate. Take it."
Hades had no choice but to accept the pouch.
"And one more thing," the Headmaster added. "You’ve been granted permission by the King to choose any one artifact from the royal vault."
"...!" Hades was stunned. "T-The royal vault?"
That place held priceless weapons, artifacts, and treasures—items that could never be replaced. Only a few people in history had ever been allowed to even see inside.
So of course, this left Hades completely speechless.
"It’s the King’s way of making up for the mistake his son made," the Headmaster said, his tone heavy.
Hades narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean, sir?"
The older man let out a sigh. "I’m sure you already know who was behind the ambush you faced a few days ago."
Hades didn’t reply, but the way his lips pressed into a thin line gave the answer away.
The Headmaster took that as confirmation. "Well, now the King knows too—that his son isn’t the person he once believed him to be."
Hades blinked. The King knows?
This was unexpected. First, the reward... and now this?
Interesting, he thought.
Then the Headmaster’s face brightened. "And finally, a gift from the academy. Tell me, Hades... ask for anything. If it’s within my power, I’ll try to make it happen."
Hades had originally planned to ask for a full scholarship for the rest of the year.
But now, with the money he had just received, covering the thousand gold coin fee would be no trouble at all.
After a brief pause, Hades asked, "Can you grant me permission to become a one-man team?"
The Headmaster raised a brow. "You want to take missions alone?"
Hades explained, "It’s not like it hasn’t been done before, sir. And you trust my abilities... so, would you allow it?"
The white-haired man leaned back in his chair, thoughtful. "I can allow it—but you’ll need to pass an evaluation. The Vice-Principal will accompany you on a mission to see if you can truly handle everything on your own."
Hades gave a calm nod, a small smile on his face. "Understood. Thank you, sir."
The older man nodded in return, a soft smile playing on his lips. "I wish you a good life ahead, son. You’ve had your share of hardship—now it’s your time to shine."
Hades paused for a moment, then lowered his head in a respectful bow. "Thank you, sir... for everything."
....
Hades walked out of the office, a faint smile still lingering on his face.
He hadn’t expected that saving the Pope would bring him this much in return.
"Hey."
He was strolling down the gallery when a voice called out to him.
It was Rinne.
She wore a deep frown, which made Hades pause in concern. "What’s wrong?"
"I had such a perfect plan to strip Cedric of his title as Crown Prince..." she began with a sigh.
But then, out of nowhere, a bright smile bloomed on her face, catching Hades off guard.
"...But who cares?" she added cheerfully. "What matters is that he lost his title. That alone is a win. That makes two hits—first, he was humiliated by the academy, and now... by his own family."
She was shaking in joy, that sadistic smile making Hades chuckle. Seriously, her hatred towards Cedric was equally fierce as his.
They were walking down the gallery while chatting when suddenly, Hades found a hand approaching him from the right.
He was about to dodge, but when his eyes landed on the person, he froze.
*Slap*
The crisp sound of the slap resonated through the hall.
Rinne’s eyes widened as she turned toward the person who slapped Hades.
"You-" Rinne was ready to charge at her, but Hades raised his hand and stopped her.
He deserved it.
