Reawakened with a Dual Survival System in the Apocalypse.-Chapter 36: Blood suckers.
Chapter 36: Blood suckers.
Jayhan and the group roamed the city streets for a while, killing low-level monsters along the way to gather coins.
Monsters like Bird Ski and goblins were easy coin farmers, so the group had no worries, for the most part.
Adonis and Seo were also holding up well on their own, especially Seo Yuna, who not only copied the abilities from these monsters but also used them against them.
On the bright side, Jayhan was gathering their gems and saving them all in his inventory.
Things were working out well for the group, at least until they reached their main target.
"I will admit, you are quite the crazy bitch," Adonis uttered, while hiding behind a rundown car.
Seo and Jayhan were beside him, their gazes fixed in front of them.
"You want to get stronger, right? Well, this is the way..."
In front of them were herds of insect-like monsters, dancing and leaping from one building to another.
The creatures loomed, a grotesque mockery of a mosquito stretched to human height, standing upright on two spindly, segmented legs that clicked against the ground.
Translucent wings, veins like shattered glass, twitched at their backs, humming faintly.
Unfortunately, they were not alone.
Some of them had gotten their hands on some unfortunate humans who were foolish enough to be their prey. Most were people from other plazas.
The mosquitoes pinned their prey to the ground, making a low buzzing sound as they sucked the weak humans’ blood through the needle-like proboscis sticking out below their blood-red compound eyes.
Before their very eyes, the group watched as these insects sucked the life from their prey, leaving behind rotten bones and flesh.
Seo Yuna was horrified by the sight, though she played it off quickly.
"We are supposed to fight that?"
Jayhan stood up a bit, moving to the other side to get another view of their environment.
"Yes, killing these monsters will give us more coins."
"Yeah, and it could also mean our death. These don’t look like low-ranking monsters," Seo remarked.
Before Jayhan could speak, Adonis stepped in, moving closer to Seo.
"You need not worry, I assure you, as long as I am here, I’ll protect you."
Seo didn’t say anything, but instead, moved a few inches away.
Adonis sighed.
"A lady who plays hard to get isn’t my type."
"I am not trying to be your type."
"Ouch! I find that you lie a lot."
Jayhan acted as if he didn’t see that.
Throughout their journey outside the plaza, Adonis had been trying to get closer to Seo; almost every time, she shot him down one way or another.
Exactly how it played out in the game too.
It was actually getting embarrassing.
’They’ll figure it out.’
Now, Jayhan’s focus was elsewhere, while Adonis and Seo were speaking behind him.
Looking forward, he could see that there were still some humans tied up at the side with some weird glue-like substance.
Recognizing them from the game, Jayhan knew what they were and how they operated.
Known as Blood Suckers, these creatures were hierarchical by nature, meaning they served a single leader, a king, and they were highly dependent on him.
Without a king, they were basically just mindless creatures, easy to kill with no survival instinct.
For them to gather in such a place and also keep people hostage, it showed they had a king ruling over them.
Killing the other Blood Suckers was easy with the group’s current strength; that said, the scenario before him was perfect for a sub-quest, and there was no way the taskmaster would miss this.
[You have activated the skill Radar.]
[A potential sub-quest has been detected.]

Jayhan knew what needed to be done; he pretty much knew this would be the next quest.
The moment any of the Blood Suckers spotted him and the group, the sub-quest would present itself to them.
Turning around, Jayhan wore a serious look on his face.
"I need you guys to listen up."
Both Adonis and Seo listened.
"We’ll be battling these monsters soon. I need to be sure you’re ready. If you hesitate, even for a second, they could kill you in the blink of an eye."
"You forget who you speak to. I assure you I am not dying to any insect," Adonis said.
Jayhan sighed at Adonis’s words.
While it was true in the game that Adonis was supposedly the strongest character in the entire verse, surpassing Seo Yuna and the 10 pillars, his strength came from a flaw, a curse.
That curse had not yet been activated, so he was not as strong as he needed to be to have this much arrogance.
"As long as you understand. Let’s go."
Soon, Jayhan and the group walked forward, revealing themselves to the colony of mosquitoes roaming the area.
The instant they sniffed out the trespassers, all Blood Suckers in the area turned their red eyes to their location. The buzzing grew louder.
Slowly, they began to gather at a single point, all their focus fixed on the group.
And then...
(A new sub-quest has been activated.)
Seo and Adonis looked to the sky to see the quest.
(Sub-quest: Kill the Blood Sucker Queen.

Warning: Getting stung by a Blood Sucker will lead to instant death and transfiguration.

"Would you look at that? This just got even more interesting..."
Adonis had a smirk on his face, his arms folded as mana danced around him.
[You have equipped the grade S weapon, Dragon’s Blood Dagger.]
In Jayhan’s grasp was a red curled blade, pulsing with energy.
[The character Seo Yuna has activated her unique skill, Justice of a maiden.]
