[Akashic Sutra: There are multiple paths to power, but the greatest power can only come from the greatest thing to ever be created: the mind.
Wash yourself of the vanity of the world and rely on the only aspect that truly belongs to you to transcend mortality.]
"No comments?" I asked, done looking through my current profile.
[Comment: You’re making good progress, but could do much better.
Your perversion comes into question.]
I had not been expecting such a comment, and my head tilted.
"How so...
I’ve gotten almost all my body stats independent of buffs and bonuses, my skills have been deepened, and now my only stumbling block is the sutra, which I apparently need up to 3 years to complete."
[You are stuck at level 9 and have failed to fill up your baby slots.]
"Those slots come with responsibility."
[Are you shying away from your responsibility.]
"I’m being a responsible man and making sure to only undertake duties I can fulfil."
[Lazy]
It had been a month since I returned to Los Angeles with Lucy. The system had remained mum for weeks, but then at the start of this week, it had gotten all chatty again.
Sure, I engaged in a lot of sex, my babies feeling the wrath of dick, but I knew the system enough to understand that such activities wouldn’t put me in its good grace.
If I took Isabella and Lucy now to go fuck in the vice chancellor’s office, that could be a different case.
"Not a bad idea," I penned down the random thought.
"When will the shop be ready?"
[Three days]
I had made my choice to mutate the knowledge tree not too long ago. I did that expecting to browse its catalogue to pass the time, but who knew the process needed so much time.
"When are you going to render punishment? Having that over my head along with the mission I owe you, doesn’t give me the best of nights."
[.....]
The system kept mum on this question.
"How about my titles and buffs? When do they get an upgrade? I won’t mind new ones."
[Like I said, Lazy]
Seeing I wouldn’t be getting anything useful from the system, I moved to close it, but then held on as I sought an answer to a worry of mine.
"The Pope, you haven’t mentioned anything about his deduction of us."
[He deduced your possible origin. He knows nothing of my presence.]
With that, the screen floating before my eyes, one which only I could see, disappeared.
I was left facing the back of the leather seat ahead of me, my gaze locked on nothing.
I hadn’t heard from the Pope or Chiara in the past weeks, but I still could not forget my interactions with them and the holy one’s means.
Our first contact, and the man had discovered my deepest secret. I had a hand in it, but that wasn’t enough to explain his apt and precise conclusion.
"Sir, we’re about to reach his estate."
Nadia’s voice brought me back. I turned to the woman and sighed internally as I came face-to-face with her stoic features.
To my PA, the events surrounding my departure to Italy were no different from that to England.
Once again, I had kept her out of the loop, flailing around with no direction.
I agree that there were a bit of failings, but this time I didn’t just up and disappear — she personally drove me to the airport.
I gave that as an argument, but the question remained: how did I get to Italy?
Nadia didn’t slack in her output; the fact remained that a wall which we had once broken down had been rebuilt between us.
Putting the antics of the girl to the side, I focused on the current incoming engagement: my meeting with Nicholas Sawut.
The name Sawut wasn’t a common term you would find in the West.
Nicholas’s ancestry, his grandfather, came from Africa. The man first settled in New York before moving to Idaho and then Texas.
He, along with his children, worked hard. They scraped all they could around them and then went into agriculture and steel.
The grandfather passed away during this time, and it was in the later years that his children made a risky but rewarding move.
Today, the family name was one which, when called, first took the informed mind to the word:
"Oil."
The current Sawut family spanned around 19, and Nicholas was at its head.
With the several wells his family controlled, hundreds of thousands of barrels being pumped out in a month, the man had serious money to his name.
I also had money to my name, but you all should understand what kind of money this type of man was hoarding.
The papers put him at 6 billion in net worth, and internally, I snorted.
If you’re wondering what’s taken me to the doorstep of this man, well, it has to do with my hedge fund.
You would think a billionaire chairing a hedge fund would give people a semblance of trust, but Nadia’s reports all showed me reluctance or outright rejection.
Well, since the pansies in Los Angeles saw me as an unlearned fish, I decided to go find myself a whale.
Not only would I straighten the fishes’ backs at home, but the sharks would tame their hunger.
Two birds with one stone.
By the way, yes, I am currently in Texas.
