Re-Overlord: I Can Acquire Anything!-Chapter 146: Meeting In-laws
Chapter 146: Meeting In-laws
Afterward, Igaris turned his attention to the other graves. He tried to revive his grandparents, his two uncles, and their families. But despite his power and the rare opportunity given by the Yin-Yang Reversal, only two among them responded to the call of life.
Two cousins.
A young man and woman, barely in their twenties when they had died. He had little emotional connection with them in the past. Their relationship was distant, no more than blood ties. But blood ties were still something. So, out of duty rather than sentiment, he revived them.
Still stunned and speechless from their sudden return to life, the two cousins stood wide-eyed, unable to comprehend what had just happened.
Without offering many explanations, Igaris activated Dimension Sovereign again and transported them, along with his parents, to Stargaze City. His senses had already picked up the ripple of space, the arrival of powerful presences nearing the cemetery.
The air turned heavy moments after they vanished.
Then with a soft pulse of spatial disturbance, three men appeared in the graveyard. Their clothing shimmered with enchantments, their bodies surrounded by subtle layers of defensive magic. High-ranked Divers, likely from one of the Four Great Houses.
They landed with precision, their sharp eyes scanning the disturbed soil and half-open graves with a mix of shock and dread.
"The coffins... some of them are empty," one of them muttered, his voice laced with disbelief.
"This isn’t just grave robbing. Someone has tampered with the flow of life and death itself."
"The residual aura here... it’s his. Igaris Vance," the tallest among them spoke coldly.
"Impossible. He wouldn’t dare to come here again. Not to this place... unless—"
"Unless he’s already beyond what we feared," the leader said grimly.
They exchanged glances, their expressions grim, the heavy silence between them louder than any thunderclap.
"This is ridiculous. It’s barely been two months. And he has alread conquered an entire city. And now... he’s reviving the dead?"
Another clenched his fists, his ornate rings digging into his palm. "Even his brother, the famed prodigy of Earth State, never achieved anything like this. What kind of power is this boy wielding?"
"The kind we were never prepared for," the third man said, eyes narrowing as he scanned the disturbed soil of the Vance graves. "This isn’t growth. This is something else. An acceleration of fate itself."
"Should we investigate further?" the first asked, though the hesitation in his voice made it clear he already feared the answer.
The second man shook his head slowly. "No. There’s no point in wasting time here. We must alert the Houses. And the Empire. Immediately."
The leader turned his gaze toward the direction, where the sky above Stargaze City was.
"An Overlord huh? He is becoming something beyond our control."
With that, they vanished, their silhouettes swallowed by light as transmission runes activated.
Far behind them, the wind passed over the empty grave where Izroth should have rested.
And the silence it left behind was colder than death.
---
The silvery shimmer of space folded like a veil, and Igaris stepped out into the courtyard of his new residence in Stargaze City. It was the Mayor’s Mansion to be exact. But now it was his.
Behind him, his parents followed in quiet awe, taking in the unfamiliar skyline and unfamiliar time. The young cousins trailed with uncertain eyes, still overwhelmed by their resurrection, unable to find words.
"Welcome, Overlord."
The guards stationed at the walls bowed immediately at the sight of Igaris. The gatekeepers opened the passage to the inner estate without delay, and Evernight and Shirley appeared the moment they sensed his return.
Shirley’s eyes lit up. She hurried forward with arms spread, but paused in surprise as she saw the two people walking behind him.
"Igaris, who are they?" she asked, tilting her head slightly, confusion flickering in her voice.
Evernight, standing a few steps behind, quietly studied the newcomers. With a single glance, her keen senses picked up the resemblance. The man’s jawline. The eyes. The presence. She already knew who they were, yet chose to say nothing. Instead, she adjusted the folds of her robe ever so slightly, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear, her beauty now composed like a blooming flower meeting dawn.
Shirley, unaware that revival of the dead was even possible, never considered the impossible truth.
"They’re my parents and cousins, Shirley," Igaris said gently, his voice soft as mist over water. "I know this all needs an explanation. But let’s talk inside. They’ve just returned and need rest."
With that, he stepped ahead, guiding his resurrected family through the grand hallway of the Overlord’s residence.
Shirley stood frozen.
Her breath caught in her throat. Her thoughts tangled. Did he just say parents? She turned slowly toward Evernight, searching for confirmation in her eyes.
Evernight’s crimson lips curled into a knowing smirk, one that held just enough arrogance to make Shirley’s cheeks flush with heat. She had known all along.
Shirley’s fingers curled into fists at her sides. Her inner voice screamed.
’This vixen... She knew! She knew they were his parents and never told me! If I had known, I wouldn’t have embarrassed myself like that in front of my future in-laws...!’
She blushed furiously at the thought, biting her lower lip. But outwardly, she wore the mask of indignation, her glare sharpened like a blade.
Evernight, utterly unfazed, gave a graceful sway of her hips as she turned, walking inside like a moon gliding through clouds.
"Arrogant, perfect-faced, smug little..." Shirley muttered under her breath, stomping in after her.
In the shadows behind them, a pair of servants exchanged glances and quickly decided to pretend they had seen nothing.
In the hallway, the Vance estate bathed in gentle light, Igaris led the way with calm composure. Behind him, his parents followed silently, their expressions still tinged with the wonder of resurrection. Yet, as their eyes lingered on the two women walking at a respectful distance behind their son, curiosity sparked between them.
Liliana leaned closer to her husband, then whispered with amusement, "Look at those two. Both extraordinary in their own right..."
Then, raising her voice just enough for Igaris to hear, she smiled playfully.
"Igaris, my dear son, which one of those young women is my daughter-in-law?"
Igaris didn’t break stride. "Shirley is my current girlfriend," he answered with steady confidence.
Liliana blinked, her smile faltering just a little. "Ohh... I thought the black-haired one was the one," she said, a trace of disappointment slipping into her voice as she glanced at Evernight, whose ethereal presence gave off the calm of a starless midnight.
Igaris smiled faintly, almost as if her assumption wasn’t entirely wrong. But he said nothing more.
Behind them, Shirley’s ears turned red. Evernight, meanwhile, looked slightly victorious, her eyes shining like polished purple gemstone as she continued walking without comment.
And so the hallway echoed only with footsteps, and the faint tremor of a storm quietly brewing between two women.
