Chapter 18: Loot, Post Battle Gains

MC’s POV

As soon as Frank dropped dead, I fired five more Magic Bullets through his body to confirm his death.

The holes tore through him.

His corpse twitched once before going still for good.

Only after that did I allow myself to breathe.

The tension in my shoulders eased.

My legs nearly gave out, and I had to lean against a tree for support.

Everything hurt. My arms, my chest, my head.

My mana reserves were at their lowest, scraping the bottom of the barrel.

But it wasn’t the physical strain that was messing with me.

It was what I’d just witnessed.

’Frank was a supernatural?’

I couldn’t wrap my head around it. It didn’t make sense no matter how I looked at it.

Frank Estenwald.

That man was supposed to be a normal human just like my father.

He was a bastard uncle who’d sided with my mother’s family when they tried to rip off everything from me.

In my past life, he was the one who spearheaded the betrayal.

He pushed the legal attack, seized the house, froze our accounts.

He might’ve killed me too if I hadn’t ended up isekai’d to Wageah.

And now here he was, revealed as a supernatural?

Not just any supernatural either.

Those dull, lifeless eyes he activated mid-fight, I recognized them.

And that sword style, fluid and brutal at the same time, didn’t belong to some back-alley mercenary.

Both of them belonged to the Daelthorn family.

House Daelthorn—the dominant family within the [Round Table], one of the five Hidden Clans that secretly ruled the world from behind the curtain.

Like all Clans, Round Table was a coalition of elite families.

But everyone knew who the top dog in Round Table was.

Daelthorn.

Their symbol was their unique swordsmanship, and their dull, grey lifeless eyes. Only the direct descendants had them.

The rumor said the eyes of the direct descendants’ lose their shine because they’ve killed too many people, and that’s how they became dull and hollow.

But in truth, those eyes were an awakened trait.

They enhanced perception and allowed one to use powerful abilities.

Paired with House Daelthorn’s elite swordsmanship, the people of that family were a nightmare to fight.

’Was Frank a bastard child of House Daelthorn?’

I didn’t remember a direct descendant named Frank among the members of House Daelthorn.

’Maybe he was killed before I returned to Earth in my last life.’

’That would explain why I never found that bastard Frank even though I searched for him.’

The information in front of me flipped everything I thought I knew upside down.

How could someone like Frank Estenwald— no, Frank Daelthorn be my father’s brother?

’Doesn’t this mean dad is also a Daelthorn?’

’I thought he was a normal human.’

My father had always seemed normal. Just a tired man working an office job, trying to provide for us.

But the truth was clear before my eyes.

’It seems like he was exiled from his family, and told to live as a normal human.’

’I need to find out what happened in the past.’

It would help me understand why Frank wanted to kill my parents.

’Now I understand how Frank was able to hire supernatural mercenaries to attack my house today.’

’It was something he could easily do with his identity as a Daelthorn.’

If Frank was a Daelthorn, killing him made matters complicated.

’House Daelthorn will easily find out that Frank attacked my family, and got killed in return.’

’They won’t know it was done by me, but they will still think a hidden guard of ours did that.’

House Daelthorn could attack my family for revenge since we killed Frank in their eyes.

’I need a deterrent to stop them.’

I didn’t regret killing Frank, but I needed to prepare for the future.

I drew out a few simple alchemy materials from my Spatial Inventory.

With a quick chant, I created a fragile staff.

This staff had no special property. Creating it was easier than converting gold into mana.

What mattered was the appearance of staff.

’Ruyi Bang.’

It looked exactly like the legendary weapon of the [Monkey King]—the Overseer of Earth.

’Leaving a replica like this is the habit of Monkey King.’

’It’s his way of saying he has found the people have committed a crime, and if they do it again, he would take personal action.’

One of the rules Monkey King, the Overseer of Earth, created was: No supernatural shall interfere with life of normal people.

People only broke that rule when they were confident the Monkey King would not find out about it.

’If dad was really a member of Daelthorn, and he was exiled, then they must’ve destroyed his dantian before exiling him.’

’It means he can no longer use his supernatural abilities.’

’Now he is counted as a normal human.’

Frank’s attack on our normal family was clear violation of Monkey King’s rule.

’House Daelthorn wouldn’t be able to take revenge on us even if they are angry with Frank’s death.’

The replica of Ruyi Bang I created would make sure of it.

’There is only one problem.’

’If Monkey King finds out someone faked his symbol, he will hunt me down to the farthest corner of the world.’

I sighed.

’Well, Monkey King isn’t on Earth right now, and it would be a few decades before he can come back.’

’I don’t really need to worry about him finding out what I did.’

The fact that Monkey King wasn’t on Earth wasn’t known to anyone but me at this point of time.

People would find about it in future.

The disappearance of the Overseer had allowed another planet to invade earth during my last life.

I had to come back to protect Earth because of that.

It was why I knew so much about supernaturals who were living on earth.

’This should be enough.’

I looked at the replica of Ruyi Bang.

’It would deter House Daelthorn from attacking us.’

I was dead tired, and the verge of losing consciousness.

Still, I didn’t return to home immediately.

No matter how tired I was, leaving the scene without collecting everything would be idiotic.

I forced myself to move and dropped down to the forest floor.

First, I floated Frank’s sword and the amulet he’d tossed earlier.

Both were heavy.

I couldn’t identify them properly right now, but they were clearly powerful Relics. Maybe even Rank 2 Relics.

I pulled them closer with telekinesis and stored them inside the Inventory Rune on my palm.

Next was the spear used by Liana’s twin.

Then the sniper rifle, still warm from Vi’s last shot.

Both went into my inventory as well.

I also found a medium-sized shield near the front of the SUV, probably belonging to the driver I’d taken out at the beginning of the ambush.

’Not bad. This is a good haul.’

Three weapons, a shield, and two useful Relics.

Even if I couldn’t use them yet, I could sell them for good money.

I turned my eyes toward the notifications flickering quietly in the corner of my vision.

Spirit: 18 → 19

Magic Bullet: 1-Star → 2-Star

Telekinesis: 1-Star → 2-Star

Shadow Summon: Level 5 → Level 6

One stat up. Two spells ranked up. And Shadow Summon leveled again, despite it already leveling twice earlier today.

’High-intensity combat really is good for growth.’

It came at a cost, though.

My chest rose and fell rapidly.

Sweat soaked through my shirt.

I could barely feel my fingers.

The post-battle crash was hitting me hard.

My vision kept blurring at the edges.

I needed to go back before I lost my consciousness.

I opened a portal to my room.

Covering that much distance from the forest to the mansion on the city’s outer area was brutal on my remaining mana, but I didn’t have a choice.

The backlash hit me the second the portal opened.

It felt like someone had driven a spear through my ribs.

I stumbled through the portal and collapsed onto the floor of my room. I didn’t even make it to the bed.

The last thing I saw was the faint glow of the inventory rune fading from my palm.

Then darkness.
