Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Renewing the Lease, 2 Acres!

Back in the Village Hall, Fengyu went to the counter handling the field leases.

He saw the same clerk again and waited for a moment for him to come instead of going to another free clerk.

"Greetings, fellow daoist," a friendly smile appeared on the clerk’s face when he saw Fengyu.

"Greetings! I have to thank fellow daoist for my field again, it’s truly a great plot of land. Now that I have become a citizen," he reached out to his spatial bag and gave him the jade token, "I would like to extend my lease."

"I saw that you did so, I was even worried you would forget about it, haha." The clerk took the token and put it into the opening on the jade tablet on his side of the counter, asking.

"Full citizens have the option to rent for a year, and the rent is 100 spirit stones per acre per year. This is 20 spirit stones cheaper than if you were to rent monthly. Would you like to rent monthly?"

"Yes, this sounds like a good idea. I would like to rent an additional acre too, if possible."

"That’s no issue. As said, the ten acres of that field have all been locked in case you wish to rent them in the future. Two acres, this makes 200 spirit stones, for how many years do you wish to rent?"

Fengyu thought for a moment – considering he wanted to buy the auxiliary weapon, he couldn’t spend too much at once.

"I’ll rent it for a year for now, and will consider renting longer later."

"Then I would like to ask for 200 spirit stones," the clerk said while tapping on the jade in front of him.

Fengyu reached into his spatial bag and took the exact number of spirit stones out with his spiritual control, putting them on the ground to the side of the counter.

"Oh, as a citizen, you can exchange up to a thousand jade coins yearly," the clerk reminded him.

"I heard of this, I will make sure to do it next time." Fengyu nodded, and at the same time, he took out a small basket.

"Here are some of my high-quality duck eggs, hehe, the steward of the general store said that they’re eaten on a daily basis by middle-stage cultivators, so I hope they taste good!"

"This, I don’t know whether I can accept it!" the clerk said humbly but reached for the basket directly, taking it into his own spatial bag.

"Just a small gift, nothing special!" Fengyu smiled and shook his head.

He chatted a bit more before leaving.

The small gift was truly just a gift of thanks, he didn’t expect any returns.

’Those who resort to bribery don’t deserve such gifts, only when you’re truly helpful do you deserve to get some gifts.’

He didn’t care for the first clerk handling his citizenship, but a clerk in the village hall might still cause him some issues. So, in the end, he waited until that clerk left to give out this gift later.

When possible, there is no need to intentionally create enmity.

Returning to the courtyard, he waited a bit longer.

Soon, one carrier arrived and gave him a book. A bit later, another cultivator, in the middle stage of Qi Refining, came and waved his hands a bit.

Then he showed him his token, telling him he was from the Village Hall and responsible for the fields.

Fengyu didn’t have any secrets hidden in the field, so he gave the cultivator his formation plate.

As expected, the cultivator only did his job, expanded the array’s range to include another acre, before handing him the plate again. Fengyu also gave him a small basket of eggs, normal ones, as a gift before he left.

Entering the field, he saw that it was quite large now.

There was no hut in the second acre but there was a large pool!

Walking towards the pool, he already saw his ducks flapping their wings in the pool, enjoying a bath while quacking incessantly.

"You guys! You’re so impatient!" he couldn’t help but exclaim.

Looking to the side, he even saw Silver Feather swimming in the pool!

"You too?"

"Quack? Quack, quack!" it told him that it, too, although stronger, was still a duck!

Naturally, it would love a pool!

"Well, this seems to be the case. Okay, you guys go around and play, but don’t forget your responsibilities, yeah?"

"Quack"

"Quack"

"Quack"

The ducks all quacked in his direction before turning back to the pool.

"Hmm, it seems the purification of the pool will start again. Well, I can directly use it as manure in the fields this time.

My spiritual power is limited, and taking care of twenty ducks is a strain. If I manage to transform the dissolving spell and recovery spell into a regularly upgraded spell through the panel, then I can focus on learning another spell.

The Wood Nourishing Spell is the best farming spell, its effect is just not as versatile as the rain spell.

Learning the spell and using it in combination with an auxiliary weapon should be quite good.

I wonder what kind of weapon it’s going to be..."

He thought about many things while watching the ducks play in the water.

At one point, even Zimu went into the water and flapped his wings around, splattering water on Silver Feather.

It became a pool party and they truly enjoyed themselves.

In the evening, Fengyu called them back and asked Zimu to bring them back to their sleeping shack.

After a year, he had upgraded it several times and it looked quite good.

The ducks complained a bit but still followed Zimu, quacking the whole journey.

Walking around the whole two acres, Fengyu slowly gathered the eggs of today and put them away.

"Two Spiritual Ducks responsible for laying high-quality eggs and eight ducks responsible for normal eggs, and an additional four ducks that focus on giving birth to twenty ducks.

Raising twenty ducks is my limit, and even adult ducks need a round of spells every so often to keep their quality up to par.

And having too much income is dangerous, so I will keep this pace for now."
