Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards-Chapter 31: Switching out the Spells
"If I was still cultivating, then taking care of so many ducks would be impossible... even now it’s too much, straining my spiritual power, reducing the time I can learn spells.
I barely learned the Wood Recovery Spell and the Reproduction Organ Dissolving Spell to the peak of Entry. Now, I have very little time to refine them..."
Though looking at his cultivation, he felt that it became faster instead of slower –
225 eggs monthly for around 6 months, and 300 eggs also for another 6 months...
[Cultivation: 3rd stage of Qi Refining]
[Cultivation progress: 3.815%, +0.315%!]
In a single year, he progressed a third of the cultivation stage – by August, when another six months passed, he should already be extremely close to breaking through!
"Hehe, at least my three spells have progressed by leaps and bounds!"
[Expertise Overview]
[Spells: 4]
[Spiritual Absorption Spell: 156/1000 (Minor)]
[Vitality Recovery Spell: 153/100 (Minor)]
[Bloodline Enhancement Spell: 153/1000 (Minor)]
[Silver Feather Spell: 400/1000 (Minor)]
Gaining 1 expertise per spell per duck, with an average of 20 ducks monthly, he gained 120 expertise over six months. Adding the previous 33, the expertise for two spells was now 153, while the expertise for the first spell was a bit ahead.
He looked at the duck in front of him, waving his hand and only saying a single string of words – "Spiritual Absorption Spell, Absorb!"
Another wave of his hands and the next spell was called out, "Vitality Recovery Spell, Recover!"
And a final move, followed by the words – "Bloodline Enhancement Spell, Enhance!"
The usual lengthy incantation was reduced to only a few words, making spell casting at least a third faster or even half as long as before.
Although the spiritual power consumption was the same, he would now spend less time casting the spell, which is why he was able to cope with so many new ducks.
"I wish I could display the other spells too..." while it was true that the last Silver Feather Spell felt illusory, the three spells he gradually learned over a long time progressed rapidly yet still gradually.
After some time, he realised that the reason he didn’t gain any comprehension points when he cast the spell on his own was because his comprehension went towards refining and making the spells his own.
He also understood from this that to properly learn the Silver Feather Spell would require as much dedication as learning any other spell.
Putting so much effort just to more easily comprehend a silver elemental spell seemed like too much of a distraction, so he didn’t do so in the end.
And seeing how fast it progressed without his intervention, it really seemed like it was best to not put too much thought into it.
In addition, while it was just a memory he gained, he guessed that if he learned five or ten silver elemental spells, then that would have the same effect as learning one vitality spell.
While it seemed unproportionate... in the end, learning the Silver Feather Spell only required breeding silver-feathered ducks, not the strenuous comprehension and practice of a spell.
"Wait, what if... what if I switched the spells I use?
Hmm... I’ve been using the Reproduction Organ Dissolving Spell on ducks, but this is more like a one-time spell, completing the job fully. But what if I did it step by step?
Although it would be more time-consuming, the flowing vitality wouldn’t leave the body.
It would become a treatment for the ducks and I might switch the reward to it.
But which spell should I swap out?
Spiritual absorption, vitality recovery, bloodline enhancement...
Vitality recovery, what if I change it to Wood Recovery? Vitality recovery is a minor non-elemental vitality spell, its effect is to recover the inherent vitality, especially after a small ache or pain.
In that case, can’t Wood Recovery take it over fully? One recovers, the other heals. They are two approaches for a similar issue. It’s just that one uses Wood Qi while the other is pure vitality.
But while beasts have a strong inherent vitality, humans don’t. This is why they need the wood qi to heal them. Recovering the inherent vitality is of lesser effect for humans.
Beasts probably don’t mind if I use Wood Qi, except for contradicting forces. Which would be earth beasts, since wood sucks nourishment out of earth.
Ducks are wind and water beasts, which is just fine!
This can be added to my plan.
As for the other two...
I think the Reproduction Organ Dissolving Spell might replace the Bloodline Enhancement Spell.
After all, the bloodline is stored directly in the reproduction organ. If it’s slowly and safely released from there, spreading all over the body, then the bloodline of the duck shouldn’t become less but instead become more concentrated.
Yeah, let’s try this method.
As for the last spell... Spiritual Absorption is a very simple spell which gathers spiritual power and allows it to smoothly enter the body of an individual, slightly boosting the absorption abilities of that body.
There is no need to replace it and find a different spell just to have more methods."
He wanted to boost the comprehension of the Wood Recovery Spell and the Reproduction Organ Dissolving Spell because both spells are important.
The Wood Recovery Spell can be used in many situations, while the latter can be used to improve the price of female ducks. Currently, he barely manages to cast the spell and is able to sell the female ducks at the same price as that of male ducks.
But if he can improve the spell and reach a higher stage, then it would be possible to raise the price by another one or two spirit stones!
A single spirit stone might not be much, but considering ten of the twenty ducks he sells are female, this would directly add ten to twenty spirit stones monthly. In a year that’s more than a hundred stones!
Such a profit is worth pursuing. Even more so than the Wood Recovery Spell, whose usefulness has to be explored in the future.
