Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards-Chapter 18: Selling ducks
"Greetings steward! I would like to sell some adult male ducks. They’re right outside the store if you would be so kind as to inspect them!" Fengyu cupped his hands, explaining his business to the steward.
The steward nodded and walked out with him, "Are you new in the village?" he asked.
"Indeed, I have just entered two months ago!
By the way, I also have some duck eggs, do you buy them too?"
"Duck eggs? Hmm, well if they’re normal eggs, then I can offer the average price of one spirit stone per eight eggs."
Fengyu nodded, he knew this was the normal price, a very fair price. Although it could be even more generous, considering the store had to sell them, it wasn’t too bad.
Then he waved his hand and took out a slightly larger egg, "What about this one? How much could I sell it for?"
"Hmm?" the steward was surprised to see a rather large duck egg.
Taking it, he inspected it carefully, sensing the spiritual power contained in the egg.
Halting on the spot, he turned to Fengyu, "This egg is something you’ve raised?"
"Indeed, I have!" Fengyu admitted it openly. It was the egg of the low-grade duck, with quite a high quality.
After spending so much time in the village, he generally understood that while there seemed to be cases of beasts raiding in the past, it was rather rare.
Every twenty to thirty years, there would be a beast wave, upon which many beasts would attack the village.
Besides this, there had been no cases of attacks and no cases of deaths in the village.
Thinking about it, it made sense.
With such a high standpoint, his own gains were too little to attract the attention of stronger cultivators.
Low-grade ducks? Worst case, they could simply be purchased. Fengyu doubted there was no method to raise ducks into wild beasts.
He always knew the unique ability of his own Beast Origin Essence Strands was to awaken an innate ability – in the future, he could possibly find other uses, but for now, this simple ability was extremely helpful, having allowed him to find this village!
His mind returned back to the steward in front of him, who nodded deeply with approval.
"Your duck eggs are of excellent quality, and I am willing to pay one spirit stone per six eggs!"
"One stone for six? Steward, are you serious?!" Fu Xian looked at him in shock.
He expected it somewhat, but the implication of this was far beyond what his mind could accept just yet!
"Indeed!" the steward nodded deeply and walked out of the store, looking at the ducks he brought, hoping it would be like this one, also of high quality.
But when he arrived, what he saw was a different scene.
The art was full of ducks, each one plump and shiny, clearly being of a good quality.
Unfortunately, it was still rather average, not reaching the rank of true excellence like the eggs.
He simply nodded and said, "We buy a Spirited Duck at the price of seven spirit stones, it this acceptable?"
"Seven...?" Fengyu looked at the man, this price being below his estimations.
Seeing this, the steward nodded, "Indeed. You might have seen the price we sell them at, but you didn’t calculate the cost.
Buying them at seven, we have to hire a Spiritual Butcher to seamlessly butcher the duck, which costs one spirit stone. Then we have to take the work of packing it, transporting it and selling it, also costing one spirit stone.
Finally, when we sell it, we only make one spirit stone.
Compared to us, the cost of raising a duck is only around five spirit stones, making the profit seven stones!" the man explained, but Fengyu knew that this was just some excuse.
Which butcher would ask for one stone when butchering only a single duck? He probably asks for one stone for butchering five to ten ducks!
And transportation costs and such?
Heh, they probably have hired help or use Innate Martial Artists, the peak of Martial Arts that can even compare to Qi Refining cultivators. Using these workers is cheap and doesn’t require payment in spirit stones.
All in all, the shop definitely made profit!
The profit he earned came from working hard, expending spiritual power and comprehending spells.
He shook his head then simply completed the deal, selling ten mature male ducks for seventy spirit stones.
Before he could even look at his stones for a moment, he already had to use them.
He went over and bought another batch of eleven ducklings.
Ten male and one female.
Considering the low-grade female duck would start reproducing with the low-grade male duck, he could buy another female duck to keep the production of eggs stable.
Just then, he suddenly remembered something.
"Zimu, what did you feel when you saw that steward? Was he peaceful?"
"Peaceful? Hmm..."
When he first met Ming and Ling, Zimu told him that the two children were peaceful.
Only then did he dare to act with them.
Peaceful didn’t mean these people were kind or anything – it only meant that they didn’t walk around any place that was non-peaceful.
Once you do so, you will have a bit of that place’s aura.
Since this was a steward, maybe... maybe he was up on the mountain peak!
Zimu scanned for a long time before shaking his head, "I don’t know. Quack, as far as I see, he is peaceful, but... quack."
Zimu quacked in annoyance, as if he had an insect crawling in its feathers.
From what it saw, this guy was indeed peaceful.
So why did it feel weird?
"Hey, stop thinking about it.
He might have come into contact with higher cultivators.
Their aura alone is difficult for us to withstand, so even if they’re in a peaceful area, for us who are so weak, the place they are in will probably have the same feeling as a place without peace. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
In the future, you can look around the village and feel the different auras to discern which feeling means what."
