Raised From The Wild-Chapter 372: Biological Weapon 2
General Jones momentarily paused at the elevator’s entrance. He pondered before proceeding inside, gesturing for the rest to enter.
Princess Amaya looked inside but found no one. Then, who was the owner of the anxious voice?
The elevator’s three walls, ceiling, and door were made of glass. Unbeknownst to her, the elevator was a sophisticated medical scanner that diagnosed every person who entered the Nower Research Institute.
When the elevator door closed, ten people, including the men who accompanied General Jones, stood close to each other in silence. Each was in deep thought. Prince Raquim and his guard were wearing hospital-grade masks because they were coughing occasionally.
Suddenly, a female mechanic broke the silence.
Name: Prince Raquim, crown prince of Albanya
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Body Temperature: 39 degrees
The sound of the female mechanical voice caught Amaya’s attention. She turned her head to the left and looked at Prince Raquim with raised brows.
"You have a fever?" there was concern in her voice.
Leon cast a sideway glance at her. His eyes were a mirror of gloominess.
Prince Raquim, who already wore a mask, nodded. "I felt a little unwell when we boarded the car earlier. I might have caught a cold."
Name: Karlo Damos, royal guard of the crown prince of Albanya
Gender: Male
Age: 30
Body Temperature: 38.8 degrees
The mechanical voice continued to announce the passengers’ names and body temperatures. Only Prince Raquim and his guard had a fever, while the rest were normal.
"Prince Raquim and the bodyguard Karlo Damos have an unidentified pathogen within their bodies. Everyone will be brought to the quarantine area. Initiating disinfection process."
A hissing sound came from the ceiling, and a white mist engulfed the elevator.
The number above the elevator door changed rapidly, and Princess Amaya felt uncomfortable in her stomach as the elevator descended quickly.
The elevator abruptly stopped at B20. Princess Amaya lost her balance and staggered back, but Leon caught her by the waist and steadied her. A familiar, subtle scent filled her olfactory senses. She looked up at Leon and met with dark orbs swirling with longing. But it was very fleeting, and Leon’s gaze was expressionless when the princess blinked.
"All passengers are requested to offboard and proceed to the quarantine area. Thank you."
The female mechanical voice once again filled the elevator before the door opened.
A woman wearing a nurse uniform was waiting for them. She was not wearing protective gear or a facial mask. Princess Amaya scanned the nurse from head to toe, and her gaze lingered back to a pair of blue eyes that looked like that of a doll. They were beautiful but had no expressions on them, and it was the sole giveaway for Amaya to conclude that the nurse before her was a robot.
"Please follow me, General Jones." The nurse said politely but with an expressionless face.
The group walked along a tiled white corridor. Prince Raquim and his guard coughed from time to time. They turned left at the end of the corridor and entered a metal door, where a spacious white room greeted them. The area had ten cubicles for preliminary examination arranged in a U shape with comfortable couches in the middle.
Each cubicle had a woman wearing a white uniform, and like the one who met them at the elevator, they didn’t wear facial masks.
Princess Amaya observed the high-tech facility operated by robots. She thought she was in a different world and was sad at Lireya’s backwardness.
"Nower is the most advanced research institute funded by the Alliance," General Jones explained before approaching the first cubicle to have his blood extracted and his vitals taken.
The rest of them were escorted to the other cubicles by the nurses.
It was Princess Amaya’s second blood extraction. In the two years since she arrived in Lireya, she has not gotten sick or been hospitalized. She only had her blood extracted when she had a complete examination a few weeks after she arrived. That was when she learned she had the blood type of the Rocas, the rare AB RH negative.
The nurse instructed her to extend her arm, and she obediently followed. The nurse expertly applied a tourniquet above her elbow. When her vein started to bulge, she inserted the big needle with precision and began to draw blood. Princess Amaya did not blink as she watched the crimson fluid fill the tube. She noticed that the nurse’s hand was very steady. There was not a slightest tremor until the tube was filled with her blood, unlike the nurse who did her first extraction.
After the extraction, she sat on the couch lazily and waited for the others.
Prince Raquim and his guard were immediately taken to an isolation room, where they were provided with medicine to lower their fever and had their blood extracted.
"General Jones, are all personnel in the quarantine area non-human?" Princess Amaya asked.
"Ninety percent are. There are a few nurses and doctors who are not robots."
"I see. Are there robot nurses outside of this facility and deployed to hospitals?" Princess Amaya continued asking.
General Jones hesitated. He was not sure, and he was not privy to the Alliance’s operations related to healthcare.
"Princess, I am not sure." He replied honestly.
After thirty minutes, the door to their left opened. A man wearing a protective suit covering his entire body, including his head, entered.
"Hello, General Jones. I am Doctor Ian Wallace, the lead biologist in the Biology Department of Nower. I have bad news. The crown prince of Albanya and his royal guard were transferred to the red zone. It is confirmed that they have an unknown and very aggressive virus that attacks the respiratory system."
General Jones sighed. "Is there an antidote?"
"We tried the different antidotes that we had, but none of them worked. There is one that slowed down the cell replication process, but that’s it. We already administered that antidote to them after doing tests." Doctor Wallace explained.
Leon, seated on the couch beside Princess Amaya, perked up. "They must have gotten the virus from the hotel."
"Of course, I recall it vividly. Following the bomb’s detonation, the air became infused with a delicate fragrance, and a mist enveloped the entire banquet hall," recounted Princess Amaya.
"Then, why don’t we show similar symptoms?" Vasquez butted in.
"Are you with them?" The doctor in the protective suit asked.
"Yes." Princess Amaya answered. "We escaped together, and we had close contact with them."
"Doctor Wallace, Captain Steven Reeve, and Captain Adam Stone developed a high-grade fever."
