Raised From The Wild-Chapter 339: The Scandal Back Then
At the Asteria Palace in Lireya... ππ£πππ ππππ¨π―ππ.ππ¨π
The Royal Family watched the live coverage of the archery finals at the palaceβs huge entertainment hall. Even the frail Queen Lucinda was there, as was the young prince Yohan, who had grown taller.
When Princess Amaya released her last arrow, and it hit the bullseye, the entertainment hall was filled with shouts of joy, especially those of the children. King Duncan and Queen Lucinda clapped their hands just like their grandchildren did. Only Danella and Nelida remained reserved and did not applaud.
"My King, we should hold a grand welcome ceremony for Amaya when she returns. She brought honor to the country by winning a gold medal. We finally have a gold medal after a long time," Queen Lucinda said, her eyes beaming with pride.
"Of course," King Duncan, who was seated beside the queen, said in a joyful tone. "The last time we secured a gold medal was over twenty years ago when Ibarra participated. I hope that Donello can also win in the menβs individual.
Ibarraβs face twitched. Why did they have to drag him into their conversation? Queen Lucinda gave him a knowing look. She didnβt know anything initially, but when she watched the archery competition, she could tell that her youngest son, Ibrahim, participated. Her husband might have been fooled by the twins, but she, as a mother, would never be.
King Duncan affectionately patted his eldest son on the shoulder. "Son, it seems like Amaya has inherited your archery skills," he remarked.
Prince Ibarra flinched at the comment. Unable to meet his fatherβs gaze, he pretended to be engrossed in the display of the huge LED screen behind his father."
The crowd in the screen exploded and so the people in the room. As they basked in their fleeting joy, their contentment was abruptly shattered when they witnessed the female reporter relentlessly badgering Princess Amaya with a barrage of intrusive questions.
"What the hell is wrong with that woman?" Prince Ibarra shouted at the screen. His loud voice startled Prince Yohan, who hid behind the couch where the king and queen were watching.
Queen Lucinda glared at her son. How can he raise his voice in front of his children?
"I am sorry, Mother. I was just carried away. Her words were malicious."
Prince Ibarra could not remain calm and unaffected by such a matter. The reporterβs insults seemed to hit his sore spot.
Danella stood with a crimson face, overcome with emotion, and swiftly hurried out of the room. Nelida, feeling concerned, attempted to follow her, but the door was abruptly shut in front of her. Deciding to give her daughter some space, Nelida left to retreat to her room.
Princess Consort Nelida waited for some time, hoping that Ibarra would come and comfort her. Soon, an hour passed, but there was no shadow of her husband.
Princess Consort Nelida swept away everything on top of her dresser, and they came crashing down on the carpeted floor.
She gazed at her reflection in the antique mirror, searching for answers. Was it truly so sinful to love someone with all her heart? She couldnβt shake off the feeling that she had done nothing wrong. All she had ever done was to offer him solace and support during his darkest moments.
"Sister, I did not wrong you. Isnβt it you who wronged me first? You knew too well that I loved Ibarra, yet you still married him even though you loved Ibrahim. You are the greedy one, Danaya. You loved the grandeur of the crown that you abandoned your fiance when you had a chance." Princess Consort Nelida said disdainfully. Even she, wasnβt aware of the truth behind Ibarra and Danayaβs wedding.
She moved her face closer to the mirror. Danaya and Nelida had similar facial features. One could tell they were sisters, as Nelida was 50% similar to Amaya.
"When you were alive, I stayed away even if my heart broke apart. But you already died, and Ibarra was lonely, and so am I. Why is it that they are condemning me and my Ibarra? I didnβt do anything wrong. I am not immoral."
Tears streamed down her face, and she started sobbing. She felt aggrieved. She thought her shameful acts in the past had long been buried, but how come it was brought out in the open again? And with so many people watching.
"Princess Consort! Are you alright?" Nelidaβs maidservant frantically knocked on the door.
Nelida wiped away her tears and took a deep breath to regain her composure. With resolve, she made her way to the doorway of her chamber, where she encountered her loyal and trusted maid.
"Go clean up the mess," Nelida commanded the maid.
The maid rushed inside, her footsteps echoing in the hallway, and swiftly gathered all the toppled bottles of skin care products scattered across the tiled floor.
"Princess Consort, donβt be sad. I think Princess Amaya handled the question very well."
Nelida glared at her maid. "It is because of her that the stain of my past was brought up. Why did she have to show off and offend Uropaβs Defense Ministerβs daughter?"
The maid was speechless. Her madam seemed out of sorts. Wasnβt she happy that the princess won a gold medal for the country? When was the last time they had won a medal? If she remembered correctly, it was during the time of Ibarra when he also won the archery competition. The maid mumbled as she went to the small quarter where she slept. It was beside the Princess Consortβs room so she could come immediately when called.
Prince Ibarra went to his study and sat on the big leather chair. In front of him was a mahogany wooden table. He opened the drawer and took a framed photo of his wedding with Danaya.
He closed his eyes as he remembered the reporterβs words: βHe bedded Danayaβs sister while the entire country was still mourning Danayaβs death.β
His eyes reddened as he used his fingertip to caress the photo of Danaya. βForgive me, my love. I was vulnerable because I could not accept that you left me. That was the weakest moment of my life, and I succumbed to temptation. Besides, I thought she was you who came back.β
