Raised From The Wild-Chapter 297: The Princess Consort’s Insecurities
Princess Amaya was sitting on the couch inside the king’s study. She was facing King Duncan sitting casually across her. While he seemed relaxed, his expression was serious.
"Amaya, I know that you are kind and generous by heart. But I want to warn you that you must be discerning when you want to help a person or an organization." King Duncan was a king for many years. His experience molded him into a wise king and a good judge of character.
The princess looked at her grandfather trying to fathom the meaning behind his words.
"Grandpa, what do you mean?" She asked with slightly raised eyebrows.
"I heard that you want to donate an orphanage to Ra-Iya. Is it because Zanzara is your cousin?" King Duncan asked in a neutral tone.
"It is not because of her, Grandpa. When I went there, I saw a lot of children begging in the street. They looked pitiful. I wanted to give them money but someone told me that it is better to course it through an organization."
"That is a noble cause. But I would like to warn you again that there are many unscrupulous politicians in Ra-Iya. They would do anything just to get their hands on the donation money." King Duncan said as he picked up the teacup on the glass table in front of him.
"Thank you for the reminder, Grandpa. Don’t worry, Marx said he would introduce to me a person who has an excellent track record of building orphanages in other countries." Amaya’s eyes glinted when she said Marx’s name. It did not escape King Duncan’s attention.
’This child! What do I do with her? She is so infatuated with Marx. But she is still young and inexperienced.’ The king thought. He wanted to tell her not to depend too much on Marx but decided against it. Marx seemed to be more infatuated with her than she to him.
"That’s good to know. Your cousin might talk to you about transferring the donation to her account. Well, she is my granddaughter but she is the Queen of Ra-Iya. Her loyalty and priority should have changed and should be with her husband."
King Duncan stood. It was a gesture that he wanted to end his conversation with Amaya.
"Go and rest! King Ralden and Zanzara will join us during lunch. Then a lot of dignitaries will be attending your father’s birthday banquet tomorrow.
"Grandpa, I made a portrait of my Daddy Ibrahim for his forty-fifth birthday. I hope it can be placed in the palace’s museum."
King Duncan paused his steps. Amaya saw a momentary sadness on his face.
He smiled at his granddaughter but it did not reach his eyes.
"Of course. Can I see it?" He tried to speak excitedly to mask the sadness in his voice.
"I’ll bring it to Grandma’s room later. I also painted Daddy Ibrahim and Daddy Ibarra together. I’ll show them both to you and Grandma."
"Go now. Ask the guard to call your Daddy Ibarra as I have something to discuss with him."
After leaving her grandfather, Amaya went to look for Yohan. A maid told her that he was at the palace grounds playing with Spirit.
Amaya hastened her steps when she heard the crisp laughter of a teenager and a young boy. When she exited the side door that led to the left-wing garden, Amaya was greeted by the site of a pup being chased by a small boy who was trailing behind a lanky teenager.
Amaya howled. The pup shifted direction and ran excitedly toward her. When Spirit was near enough, he jumped straight into Amaya who opened her arms by instinct.
Princess Amaya giggled and patted the pup who had become bigger and rounder.
She walked briskly toward Yohan. The young boy was panting while Donello was grinning at her.
"He still remembers you, Sister. How come he didn’t jump into my arms when I arrived from school?"
"I guess he remembered the fact that I was the one who helped him and his siblings when they were born. Wolves are loyal creatures after all." Amaya said casually as she placed Spirit on the ground.
"It looks like you are taking care of him. He has grown bigger." She spoke to Yohan gently.
Yohan beamed. "He is drinking milk every day. That’s why he grows bigger every day."
Amaya ruffled his hair. Yohan’s cheeks turned red. His heart swelled with happiness. It felt good every time his big sister touched his hair or pinched his cheeks. It was just like how the mommies of his classmates do to them from time to time.
"Because you took care of Spirit I have a reward for you," Amaya took something from her pocket and gave it to Yohan. It was a Rubix Cube.
Yohan smiled radiantly. He happily accepted the toy and thanked his sister.
"Sister, how about me? Where is my reward? I also took care of Spirit." Donello complained when he did not receive a gift from Amaya.
"Heh, are you a child? You are already so old and you still asked for a reward."
"Sis, you’re biased!" Donello sounded aggrieved.
Amaya felt guilty.
"What do you want?"
Donello thought for a while before blurting "How about you take me treasure hunting in Verde Island?"
"Sure! But you have to get permission from your mother and father." Amaya replied without thinking.
Donello’s face fell. He anticipated that his mother would not allow him.
"Doesn’t Lireya’s Royal Family have a hunting tradition?"
"Sister, you are a genius. Hunting will happen as part of the king’s week-long birthday celebration and Grandpa’s birthday will be next month." Donello was so excited that he hugged Amaya.
Princess Consort Nelida was observing the three people on the left wing from her window. She frowned when she saw how close Yohan and Donello were to Princess Amaya. She gritted her teeth when she saw Donello hug Princess Amaya.
She was happy when Amaya announced last month that she would be spending most of her time in her newly built palace. While she was jealous that Amaya, at such a young age could afford to buy an island and build her palace, she rejoiced because that ’wild girl’ would be living separately from them. She did not have to endure seeing the face that resembled her sister’s every day.
Nelida has resented Danaya since they were young. They were sisters yet she did not understand why Danaya was more beautiful and talented than her. Whether at home or in school, every time Danaya appeared, she became her backdrop. She wasn’t an introvert, but with Danaya, she became a wallflower.
Seeing Amaya exuded the same aura as her mother, the insecurities she thought she successfully overcame when she became the Princess Consort started to resurface.
"No! I am the princess consort now and Danaya is dead. What can a naive princess who grew up alone and in an uncivilized environment do to me?"
