Rabbit Must Die-Chapter 692 - 288: Gift_1
Upon entering the city, Qin Shou was dumbfounded for a moment.
The reason was simple, outside the city, the sky was falling, yet these people inside carried on as if nothing was happening, just like any other day!
It was as if the fighting outside had nothing to do with them.
After walking for a while, Qin Shou couldn’t help himself and grabbed someone to ask, "Hey, Brother He, aren’t you worried with the battle going on outside?"
The person chuckled and replied, "I’ve lived long enough to see through life and death. If you’re alive, you should enjoy life; as for death, that’s not really up to us, right? Being carefree and at ease comes first, regardless of whether the sky falls or not!"
Having said that, the person walked away.
Qin Shou couldn’t comprehend that person’s words. He knew about being carefree, but to remain carefree when you’re about to die, isn’t that being terribly thick-skinned?
Shaking his head, Qin Shou dashed straight to the door of the Kitchen God’s small tavern. It was here that Qin Shou really began to sense the atmosphere of war.
The tavern had closed its doors, not receiving customers, with the front door tightly shut, giving off the appearance of poor business.
Unable to help himself, Qin Shou sighed, "Ah... Master never cares about politics, but when it really comes to a fight, he still has the heart of someone who worries about the country and its people."
After he finished speaking, Qin Shou pushed open the door. At that moment, he was greeted with a strong aroma of wine, and at the same time, he heard someone shout from inside, "Good to see you, brothers, triple sixes..."
As the door swung fully open, Qin Shou saw the Kitchen God with one foot on a chair, holding a bowl of wine high, while stretching out his other hand. Across from him was Lu Ban, Master Lu in the same pose, both red-faced and excited!
The sudden opening of the door startled both men, and when they turned and saw it was Qin Shou, they froze.
Then both men, happily waving their hands, said, "Rabbit, come join us! Drink with us! Let me introduce you, this is the Wine God."
Sitting in the middle, the Wine God, already drunk and swaying, said, "You... uh... hello."
Qin Shou looked completely bewildered, rubbing his temples and tugging at his own ears, "With the battle going on outside, you’re just like this?"
Master Lu, with a look of indifference, said, "The fight is already on, what can we do? Even Golden Immortals might not come back alive if they go out there, and we don’t even qualify to join the fight anymore. Put simply, we can’t control our future fate right now, so might as well take control of our current fate. Eat well, drink well, if the city falls, we’ll go with the Heavenly Court, and if the other side is done for, we’ll just carry on as usual."
After careful consideration, Qin Shou realized it seemed to be true.
At that moment, whether the Wine God was really drunk or just pretending, he let out a chuckle and said, "We’re gods from the Investiture of the Gods, our cultivation over countless years and the people’s incense worship have eventually resulted in the Investiture of the Gods, not us... ah..."
With that, the Wine God face-planted on the table and fell asleep.
Master Lu and the Kitchen God exchanged wry smiles and said, "Don’t mind him, he’s speaking nonsense again. Rabbit, why do you look so unhappy?"
Qin Shou replied, "The moon is gone."
Casually, Master Lu said, "So it’s gone... eh, what?!"
Master Lu’s voice shot up in pitch as he grabbed Rabbit’s ear, "The moon is gone? Did I hear that right?"
The Kitchen God also had a look of disbelief as he said, "Impossible, right?"
Qin Shou took out the Shadow Printing Stone to show them, and after both of them had seen it, they fell into deep thought.
The Kitchen God said, "As far as I know, the moon is the Taiyin Star, said to have formed from one of Pangu’s eyes when he created the heavens. It’s like the Taiyang Star – eternal and unchanging. But something happened later on, and its size shrank quite a bit, and its Spiritual Energy dispersed."
Master Lu said, "I’ve heard of that too, but I’ve never heard of it running away!"
Qin Shou waved his hand and said, "Enough about that, I just came to see if you guys were okay. That’s good. By the way, where’s Wenqu Star Monarch?"
Master Lu said, "Him? He’s gone to visit friends. He lives more freely than us, even has a girlfriend now."
Qin Shou was taken aback, "Really?"
Master Lu laughed and said, "That guy usually acts all high and mighty, but I guess he thought he was going to die and suddenly came to terms with everything. Now he and that certain Star Monarch are all lovey-dovey. Don’t go disturbing him; you better hurry after your moon."
Speaking of this, Master Lu took something out of his bosom and handed it to Qin Shou, saying, "My power is limited, and so is what I can create, but you should find this useful."
Qin Shou took it and saw that it was a compass. The compass looked quite ordinary, with only some silvery dots and a needle on it, without any markings for north, south, east, or west.
Master Lu said, "This is an astroplate, different from the usual ones. It’s not used on the ground. Once you reach the depths of the starry sky, you’ll see its benefits. With it, I can’t guarantee you’ll find the moon for sure, but getting back to the Earthly Immortal Realm shouldn’t be a problem."
The Kitchen God exclaimed in surprise, "Is this the Daluo Star Disk? A nature spirit treasure? You’re really willing to part with it."
Master Lu indifferently said, "Who knows how much longer we’ll live? What’s there to cling to? Giving it to Rabbit at least keeps it within our lineage. If I died and someone else looted it, that would be the real loss."
The Kitchen God chuckled and said, "That’s true... Rabbit, I don’t have much to give you, but take this pot with you."
As he spoke, the Kitchen God took out a furnace, and Qin Shou exclaimed, "The Eight Trigrams Furnace?"
Then they heard the Eight Trigrams Furnace grumbling in a hoarse voice, "What are you shouting for? I’ve been fired! Now I’m called the Eight Trigrams Pot!"
Qin Shou was dumbfounded, "Why?"
The Kitchen God laughed and said, "When Lord Laozi came back, he discovered that the Immortal Pills he crafted all had a seafood flavor. Later, when he did the math and found that this guy, following you around, became both a pot and a vehicle... he felt disgraced. So, he tossed him out, and it came to me. I was in need of a good pot, and it started working for me."
With that, the Kitchen God continued, "This was Laozi’s Eight Trigrams Furnace; regardless of anything else, you’ve experienced how sturdy it is. If you face danger, just dive inside, it will keep you safe."
Hearing this, Qin Shou’s eyes moistened. His two teachers were facing an uncertain fate, yet at this time, they were still concerned for him...
Qin Shou said, "Teacher, why don’t you come with me?"
The Kitchen God smiled without saying anything, while Master Lu glared with wide-eyes, "Come with you, my ass! If we leave, that means we’re scared! A true man can lose his head, shed his blood, but if he’s scared... then he’s truly lost. In my life, I’ve never been afraid of anyone, even when facing an Overlord, it was out of respect. Rabbit, I may not have taught you much, but remember this, live your life without fear, for being scared is the real defeat."
Qin Shou unwillingly still wanted to persuade them, but the Kitchen God said, "You’ve got your own business to attend to, don’t worry about us. If one day, we can’t hold out here anymore, as long as the Investiture of the Gods exists, we won’t die. If even the Investiture of the Gods is gone, no matter how far we run, it’ll be pointless. Our True Spirits are on the Investiture of the Gods; if someone erases us from there, no matter how far we flee, we will vanish into ash and smoke."
