Quills: the Rise of the Northern Matriarch-Chapter 111: Good News 3
Chapter 111 - Good News 3
"How about having a small family party among the Quill, Allari, Sedai, Halid and Setton to celebrate the approval of the new operating system? It has been so long since we have seen my family," Liem said. Sirona peeked up from the educational resource she was reading and eyed the adults in the room. Nora laughed, looking at her little social flower perking up. It had been so long since she had seen her cousins and aunt. Children around her age were hard to come by among the friends and relatives that they knew.
"You are supposed to be on medical leave for stress. Please do not do this because you feel bad." Talan said. He really did not feel like seeing their inner circle. The Setton Clan knew his life experience now, he had no clan identity beyond his brothers, could he face them.
"No. I will ask Dorien and Hillian to help, they probably will take over the whole party." Liem said. Talan started to fake a smile next to the two. Trying to keep a happy look on his face. He noticed that he felt a little pain not hearing a fifth clan name. He felt jealous of his fellow spouses, since they had a loving relationship with their maternal families. He had lost his maternal clan. He was learning through Janel and Monil that families could be built and acquired. However, he still felt lonely even as a Quill. Nora tightened her grip on his hand.
"It has been such a long time since we have seen all of our family, but make sure to give the Halid a couple of days so that we give them a rest before the party." Nora said.
"Why not have Talan get involved too? It is his party. This is his industry. What do you think?" Nora said. Talan sighed.
"I suppose it is unavoidable," Talan said. The secrets of the Hudai had not yet been leaked, but if anyone in the media found out what happened to his brothers and himself. It would follow them, him and his own children, into the future as hurtful gossip. It might drive some of his own brothers to suicide. Talan had unanswered messages from his brothers and the Noro family. He was unequipped emotionally to deal with them without Janel's counseling. He was thankful to have him within the building. But he did not want to become overdependent on him. It was going to be hard for him, Rex and Sage to deal with the looks and gossip of what the public already knew. Since his Father had murdered his own Mother and committed suicide. The news was carefully released, thankfully, due to the Setton company controlling the scene and the information coming out. It was only because of Quill's ties to Setton that the information did not get out. If he was bound to any other woman at this point, he would be abandoned and sent back to an empty building and then to his father's family. Who were probably under a lot of stress at this point from the news that had leaked. Edem of Noro had killed the Matriarch of the most powerful Clan.
"Are you sure?" Nora said.
"It has to be done. I would prefer to wait until it is launched to have a large party." Talan said.
"Talan went awfully quiet there considering that it is a party for him. I am going to message Dorien to help with this. He knows I am not into flower arrangements and frills like the rest of the boys are. Talan's my brother anyway. I am so proud of him," Liem said as he hooked an arm around the quiet Talan. He felt badly for Talan having it so hard. Talan looked to Liem and then to Nora. Talan fidgeted with his hands, looking down at them thoughtfully. It still felt like it happened just yesterday, and he was not ready to enjoy anything beyond what their little family could offer.
"I agree, but please do not get involved in the planning. We can take care of this" Talan said. "I feel hesitant to celebrate right now, Nora." Talan said, the pain of seeing his brothers, everyone pitying them or making their guesses about them was not something he could handle. Nora patted and stroked his back encouragingly, as Liem coughed and cleared his throat.
"I suppose we can wait until it is fully launched to celebrate, we can take our time to plan the event. We could have a bigger guest list," Liem said. Talan bit his lip, nervous, it was time to talk about it.
"My father's family, Clan Noro, reached out to me about dowry arrangements. It seems that they want a relationship with me, Rex and Sage. It would be helpful to me to build a family relationship with them," Talan said with a little nervousness in his voice. Nora was surprised. She had run into someone in the Noro clan at the party that they had met at. It made total sense now that a family from the other side of the world would be there now, not that the Hudai could not reach that far. He had every right to build a familial relationship with them.
"You do know that you are not required to submit a monthly dowry, Talan," Nora said. "I understand though. We will always take care of you, Sweetie." Nora said and placed a kiss on his cheek and gave him a tight hug.
Clan Noro had reached out to offer to represent his Maternal home and pay his dowry. His own was embarrassing now. He was unaware if it was because of the connection to the powerful familial allies that the Quills had through his co-spouses and their children. The Noro family also did not have a female heir. He would have to discuss it with Nora first, since the Noro family was involved in the upper echelons of the world's united government. It was a political family with no heir, which gave him trepidation in communicating with them and accepting the dowry arrangement. Could she not just be his successor in one of the industries that Quill ran? The Hudai dowry was still paying as there were other industries. It was just significantly less. As there was still no reason yet to change his affiliations. He could take some time to himself to think it out.
"I want to ensure that I contribute as much as the others do," Talan said. It was a matter of pride. One's dowry and the size of it traditionally contributed to the hierarchy in a Bind. He did not like that the Allari now paid more monthly, it was the only thing Lara did for him. Her pride would never allow a Bound son to receive less than a second tier industry like Allari.
He received inquiries from his cousin Seril personally after he was bound to Nora as a spouse. This brought him some comfort having a friendly family member to talk to. The spousal group had briefly met his cousin Seril from the clan, the first night that he had met Nora. Seril was eager to communicate with him. He would be looking for information to connect with him to see if they would be going to the same parties. He wanted to get together with him and his clan anytime he was in Callor over the years. Seril seemed friendly enough, they just never really had the opportunities to go out with child care and their work. Talan ached for connectivity with a family other than the one he had made himself. Talan exercised caution in informing his cousin the good news, but he would invite him to the official launch party in a few months. Talan looked at Liem and Nora talking. He had completely lost track of the conversation when they started to talk about having a party.
"Then just a dinner among family?" Talan said. "Something small, perhaps we can see the Allari?" Talan continued.

"Yes." Sirona suddenly said, "Please Father." Sirona said, looking up at her Father, begging. She clung to his knees. Liem cursed himself.
"I will message Allurai, then," Nora said. She pat her daughter's dark blonde hair. Sirona smiled up at her mother, her eyes brightening and her cheeks flushing in excitement. Liem could use a little discomfort himself, and he had to work on the relationship with his mother, which was not as terrible in comparison to the issues that her other spouses were working on themselves. Kai was able to move past forced abandonment by working on them with his mother. Liem needed to confront the Allari, and the only way he could move the rock in his heart was exposure to them and Janel.
