Quick Transmigration: The Mad Beauty Refuses to Be the Scapegoat!-Chapter 446: Cannon Fodder Stepsister Doesn’t Want to Die (3)
"Tang Song."
Jiang Lai looked up, seriously eyeing him.
"As your friend of over a year in high school, I’m officially telling you this once—I’m the only one bearing the burden since my dad is going bankrupt, and my mom is sick. I need to study hard, get into a good college, and earn money to support the family.
In the future, no matter what activity it is, don’t look for me. Don’t distract me from my studies."
Tang Song: "..."
For the first time, he saw Jiang Lai without makeup. Her eyes lacked the eyeliner extension, her face was pale without powder, and her lips weren’t covered in colorful gloss. It was just a simple, clean face with strikingly round, bright eyes, paired with a slightly snub, upturned nose, and full, rosy lips—a face like a doll, looking as if she had stepped out of a TV show, an exquisite beauty like a mixed-race child.
Pairing that with her earnest words about her family’s dire situation, it was as if something hit Tang Song’s heart, causing it to race, and for the first time, he couldn’t dare look directly into Jiang Lai’s eyes.
"Your family... wasn’t it doing quite well?"
"It’s about to not be. I have no right to keep fooling around with you rich kids. I have to take responsibility for my own life. Tang Song, please turn back and don’t disturb my studies."
"Oh... okay, okay, you study, you study..."
Inspirational quotes really work wonders.
If one bowl isn’t enough, have another.
Jiang Lai poured it out with extraordinary ease.
Meanwhile, two other girls, usually buddies at the pub, were also persuaded back to their seats by Jiang Lai’s pitiful story of "my family is going bankrupt and my mom is sick".
The entire morning, Jiang Lai studied in peace. Although everyone gave her weird and complex looks, and some even muttered complaints under the guise of speaking softly, she didn’t care.
As the bell rang for the first afternoon math class, a boy with a backpack slung across his body and a baseball cap on his head strolled to the doorway, casually leaning against the doorframe. "Reporting, teacher, I’m late," he lazily said.
The math teacher didn’t even glance at him, continuing to flip through his textbook. The boy didn’t stand there further, chewing gum as he strode toward the middle of the class.
Jiang Lai was resting her chin on her hand, watching the math teacher write the day’s lesson on the blackboard when suddenly a shadow appeared before her. He was tall, with bleached hair peeking out from beneath his cap. His chin had sharp, smooth lines, and his skin was a delicate cold white. Jiang Lai’s gaze finally landed on the silver earring in his right ear gleaming with a cold glint.
Delinquent.
Those four words popped into Jiang Lai’s mind.
What a pity that this delinquent was Jiang Lai’s boyfriend from not too long ago, Shen Weizhou.
He kicked Jiang Lai’s chair.
"Move inside."
Jiang Lai remained seated.
"This is my spot. Don’t block my view of the blackboard."
"Heh..."
Shen Weizhou smirked, baring a shiny canine tooth, and without saying more, he tossed his bag onto the innermost desk, then stepped over, placing a hand on Jiang Lai’s shoulder to guide her inside. He even tapped her head as an afterthought.
"Stop pretending. Take a nap; I’ll take you for a motorbike ride this afternoon."
Jiang Lai turned her head, suddenly becoming aware of a huge problem she ignored beside her, and frowned at him.
Then, she turned back, straightened her back, and raised her intact left arm.
"Teacher, Shen Weizhou is listening to music during class, disrupting my studies."
The math teacher paused while writing and looked back at the source of the voice, needing to confirm multiple times to believe it was indeed Jiang Lai, the perennial sleeper of the class, who spoke.
She and Shen Weizhou were two peas in a pod, impervious to the teacher’s voice no matter how loud during their naps.
Over time, the teacher got used to it, turning a blind eye.
And today, the sleeper raised her hand to report the slacker by her side.
The "slacker" himself was confused, his drowsy eyes under the cap looking around, finally landing on Jiang Lai, filled with bewilderment, asking with his soul.
"What’s your problem?"
Jiang Lai raised her plastered right arm.
"Got an issue with your eyes?"
The math teacher merely thought they were having a quarrel but still told Shen Weizhou to stand outside and listen to the class.
Having not slept the entire night, Shen Weizhou stood at the back of the class, glaring at the back of Jiang Lai’s head, mulling over whether he had done something to upset her.
As he pondered, his gaze slowly drifted, captivated by the occasional profile of Jiang Lai when she turned slightly.
This girl sure knew how to put on an act. Anyone who didn’t know better would think she was the top student in the class.
And also, what was up with her right hand?
When did it break?
How did he not know?
As her boyfriend, Shen Weizhou indeed hadn’t paid much attention to Jiang Lai. It all started with a lost bet, friends egging him on to chase her. After winning her over, he didn’t really feel anything special. They ditched classes to play games, and Jiang Lai had carried the title of his girlfriend for nearly half a semester.
Lately, however, he’d been toying with the idea of breaking up mainly because he was getting tired, and the school belle, Qiao Chuweng, from the science class next door has consistently been inviting him to join the broadcasting station, likely indicating she’s interested in him.
Shen Weizhou did have some principles and wasn’t one to date two people at once, which is why he was good at decisive endings.
He originally planned to break up with Jiang Lai today, but before he could say anything, she reported him and got him standing outside the class.
As soon as class ended, Shen Weizhou rushed in, kicking a chair at the back of the class before dragging another one to sit in front of Jiang Lai.
He watched as she calmly pulled out a book titled "Five Year College Entrance Exam, Three Year Simulation" from her desk and immersed herself in it, showing no intention to explain herself to him.
"Jiang Lai, what’s with you? Why are you pretending to be a model student? Did I do something to offend you lately?"
So noisy.
Jiang Lai pressed her lips together, looked up with a serious and stern expression, completely engrossed in a single-minded studious bookworm mode.
"Shen Weizhou, let’s break up."
"What?!"
"I said, break up. Your grades are too poor; being with you offers me no room for improvement, and you’ll also affect my studies."
"Jiang Lai, did you hit your head when you broke your arm? Saying my grades are bad? You were right behind me in last month’s exam, damn it!"
One ranked thirteenth last from the bottom of the grade, the other fourteenth; no wonder Shen Weizhou was agitated by those words.
Yet Jiang Lai’s face remained calm, and she continued.
"So you’re actually proud of being the better of two bottom-tier students? Seize the prime of youth to study, that’s my sincere advice to you as an ex-girlfriend."
Having said that, Jiang Lai lowered her head and continued focusing on the book.
Shen Weizhou stared at her, nearly driven mad with anger.
"You... You, you’re truly something, Jiang Lai! Let’s see how long you can keep this act up!"
With that, he grabbed his bag and tossed it to the back row, booting a classmate who was napping.
"Get up and sit in front!"
